We have always wanted to try Cheddar's and finally got the chance to stop in yesterday. It was lunch time on a Saturday so pretty busy and there was a wait of about 5 minutes before we were seated. I was surprised they brought out warm croissants right after we were seated. I had an unsweetened raspberry iced tea, my husband had a strawberry lemonade. Both were very tasty. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer which were great and then for entrees I had chicken strips with coleslaw and a broccoli/rice/cheese dish as sides. My husband got the Monte Cristo sandwich with fries. Everything was very tasty and we ended up taking more than half of our entrees to go because we were full. Our bill was about $45 before tip which I found reasonable. The server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was actually a bit more upscale than I expected. First and foremost the croissants are always delicious. But I won't be bringing my family back here. Our server was the sweetest but just not very attentive and wouldn't come check on us in a timely manner. We waited over an hour for our food. Asked the floor manager to check on our food and that's when the food came out. When the food arrived it was cold. The broccoli that was served with our salmon wasn't steamed at all. The chicken breast was dry. Very disappointed in the service we received. Recently dined here with my family and it was very disappointing. We used the app to get on the waitlist and when we arrived we still waited an additional 15 minutes. The restaurant didn't have any available booster seats and couldn't offer us a highchair because they sat us at a booth. Both my toddlers and infant had to wait more than 20 minutes for a booster to be able to sit table height. I thought the standard was offering croissants to every table but NO! We were never offered any. Not sure if it was a tough night for our server but things just kept going down hill. We waited over 30 mins for our side salad and had to send back our soda 2 times due to it being flat. Not one fizz bubble in sight. I ordered a Texas margaritas. Huge disappointment! It came separated like it had been sitting at the bar for some time. No salt or sugar on the rim or lime. The waiter said I must request it even though our server never gave me a choice. I walked the restaurant to see if they were busy for a Friday night. It was calm clean and operating smoothly. After 35 minutes I requested a manager. This sped up service but still service was terrible. We finally got another booster seat, our appetizer and salad came out within 3 minutes of our entree and then we watch a party of 8 get seated and were greeted with two baskets of croissants. I was blown away! We were offered Texas toast or garlic bread due to the croissants being only for select parties. There were 6 people in my party and we couldn't even get the standard treatment. I've been to many locations across several states as a veteran and this was very disappointing. The food was delicious! I just wish service and quality control could get things together. This is an 'ole faithful' eatery. We've been here multiple times and tried different items in the menu. So far, we don't have any complaints. Walking in the front doors, you're greeted by a large fish tank and the hostess podium. The ambiance is nice with soft modern music, a full bar to the left side of the restaurant Carter was our waiter and brought us The buttery croissants to start the adventure. We ordered the ribs and chicken tenders and the shrimp platter. The side salad was large enough for 2 and was fresh. The shrimp were hot and crispy. The ribs were smothered in a light BBQ sauce. We ordered the chocolate cake sundae and it was large and delicious. We had to take it home with us since we could not finish it all. The only negative (kinda hard to say it out loud) was the AC was working over time and the ceiling fans made it a little cold for us. It wasn't enough to keep us from coming back. We stopped in to give Cheddars's a try as the Scratch Kitchen part of their name intrigued us and they were always busy. The first time we visited I had the Country Fired Steak with broccoli and coleslaw and my wife ordered the chicken Alfredo with garlic bread. Our meal was delicious, full of flavor and we had no complaints. The service was good and looked forward to returning soon. The second time we visited Cheddar's, I ordered the Top Sirloin with coleslaw and fries while my wife went with the Chicken Pot Pie and a house salad. We went with several family members and had a really good time. Our meals were again good, but not as enjoyable as our first experience. The steak was a bit dry and my wife wasn't wholly impressed with her pie. The other family members also seemed to be a iffy on their meals as well. Perhaps it was an off day, but for basic comfort food was expecting more. The service also lacked this go round as well. We still see a lot of delicious looking items on the menu and will return to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen to give them another try. read more

First time to a Cheddars. Casual dining similar to many other chains. As soon as we sat down a waiter brought menus and two warm croissants drizzled with honey butter. I was only planning on a taste but devoured it instead. It was particularly good with their better than average coffee. I ordered the beer battered shrimp which came with two sides. The side salad was meh but the red beans and rice were really good with chunks of ham and sausage obviously house made, the shrimp entree was a generous portion of crispy lightly battered fried shrimp that was cooked perfectly. The manager came and took our drink order and our appetizer and were served our drinks promptly. 25 minutes later our waiter acknowledged us "25 minutes later " says he'll be right with us. Finally someone else brings out our appetizer and we refused it because it was now cold. 10 minutes later after reheating our appetizer it was delivered to us and we refused it again. Very disappointed. Bread was cold. Ordered blacken white fish and got lemon pepper served instead and it was brought to the table before our salads. And then when we questioned the dish set before us we were told they were cutting up the lettuce and salads were not ready. Manager did not come by our table to see why we were upset but sent word by the waitress to have us pay for our 1 soda if we weren't going to eat. This is my third time at this location. The food was not amazing but overall was good and my wife loved her spasagna. What made this a 5 star experience was the service. I normally come in full suit and cleaned up and honestly service was lacking. Tonight I came in in a beanie and hoodie since I wanted to be comfortable due to a recent diagnosis that affects me. The host greeted me promptly with a smile and the server Joel R. is the reason I am giving a review. He quickly took our orders, realizing we were ready to order after he put in our drinks, mentioning he would check on our drinks as he put in the rest of our order. This was all within 5 minutes. What the ??? We have been here twice in our 3 years living in Conroe. Amazingly enough, we were sat in the exact same spot. In the bar and yeah, not quite in the bar enough to get the bar service. Cheddar's in Conroe was surprisingly good for a chain restaurant. I had lunch with family on Christmas Eve. I ordered the 14 oz ribeye steak with loaded mashed potato and a side salad. The steak was perfectly cooked medium and the salad was fresh and just the right size. Our waitperson seemed young but was quick and efficient. The interior is a bit dark but with a cozy feel. The seating areas were nice, but the reverberating sounds of little children crying and screaming substantially detracted from the overall ambience. Our server did a passable job. However, to start he asked if we wanted to order mere seconds after we were seated with no chance to examine the menu. My order was burnt in the kitchen, but it took a long while for him to get back to tell us that, especially for a rare steak cooked in a sparsely populated restaurant. He assured us they would make me a new steak. Thoughtfully, he did not deliver my wife's food until my replacement steak was prepared. After another interminable wait without seeing the server, I approached the hostess to request a check. She said she would find our server, but then I noticed him delivering the food as we spoke. He did come by later to apologize for the time it took to deliver the steak. My ribeye was so coated in pepper as to make it impossible to get more than a hint of flavor from the meat. I didn't complain .. by this time, we'll over an hour waiting to be served, I was hungry and just went with it and the undercooked fries. This was my second time at Cheddar's and it didn't disappoint. It's on the more modern side in terms of atmosphere, but definitely feels like a chain. The first thing I noticed is how cheap the drinks are, and it wasn't even happy hour. I ordered top shelf margarita and it was only $8. The house is $6, but most importantly, they were HUGE! One is more than enough if you are driving home. For an app I ordered chips and queso (and salsa). It looked like they was store bought, and not anything special, but they both tasted really good, even better than some Mexican restaurants I've been to. There are also free croissants which are delicious and moist, although a little too saturated in butter. The Caesar salads were also better than expected as a starter/side. The best thing of the night was the chicken fried steak, which was easily the best I've ever had and very fresh tasting. We finished the night with the chocolate cake and ice cream, which was solid, but nothing to write home about. The service was solid, but it was really busy due to it being a Friday night. Overall, it was a great experience and if you are looking to grab a quick chain experience, this is one of the best options out there, especially for the price. The second night was lacking and when we tried to order items, the waiter would tell us that they do not have it. We wished he would have told us before when he brought us the menus.
