Our metal crowd didn't really blend in but we got no hassle, just a few looks. But then I was giving the ghastly neon dressed females the same look. Good mix of music from the juke box, apparently you can play pretty much anything as it looks it up on t'internet. Karaoke was in full flow but its difficult to even hear it with other music/noise. This pub doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside, it's quite bright and lots of seating available. We ordered drinks from one of the friendliest bartenders around and sat down to enjoy. He later came around to say hi and to see what were up to. We could tell that this is very much a locals pub but we were welcomed with open arms and treated as though we were locals ourselves. I really enjoyed that about this pub. We only stayed for one drink, but would be back in a second the next time we're in town.

The soft drinks are cheap- often a sign of a good bar that isn't out to scalp anyone who isn't steaming- and the trade is mostly regulars- strangely fora city centre bar. The style is old fashioned- this pub would not be out of place in suburban Glasgow, but it has become a little bit of a meet up point for more mature clubbers early on weekends. Certainly safe and welcoming, it is old fashioned and respectable.

When the kitchen was fully opened I quickly gained the impression I was to be served dead last. Observing wee whispers at the bar and the people who just arrived were served before me. And I observed smiles and giggles from the staff when they saw that I noticed. So as you can imagine I left fed up with the terrible service service. I said to the staff to give my meal to someone else and to the waitress who for some reason had kept looking over at me from the time she arrived on shift. I must in fairness point out I'm no Richard Gere more Capri Gear lol. So I said to her It was nice to be over looked. I don't think they like religious or indeed men for that matter. So I think the place us best avoided. . I have been in before with my father and I was dressed rather differently and didn't have a problem. My dad asked me what I thought of the food I said it's a very good school dinner!! The bar maid followed me out of the premises saying excuse me excuse me. To tell me not to come back. I couldn't wait to finish my drink and get my sorry ass out of there before any of the clientele approached me. I am nearly seven feet tall and built like the Hulk's big brother yet I felt uncomfortable in that excrement aperture of a place. In time the occupants may evolve into sub-humans but until then I would say it's best avoided.

For a Sunday afternoon, there were a few patrons, but not many. The lunch menu was really cheap - 2 meals for £11! You can't go wrong. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked. Not too deep fried. The fish didn't taste frozen. I wish there was more tartar sauce, but there were a variety of other sauces on the table. It also comes with a drink. There's TVs and sports memorabilia everywhere. Washroom could be cleaner. But everyone is friendly. Most importantly, the food is good.

There's always music on weekend nights and lots of week nights too- mostly folk/Scottish influenced sometimes with a rock edge. This is an ideal place to take visitors to Scotland where you can show off Scotland's welcoming reputation and music scene. The band on Friday night included enthusiastic bagpipers so definitely not the place for a quiet drink! Get there really early - we went at 6.30- if you want a table at a weekend. The wood fired pizzas are fast gaining a reputation and with a "make your own" option you can choose 3 toppings from a cast of about 40 for £7.50. I had goats cheese, caramelised onion and sundried tomato. The pizza was one of the best I've had. Really rich flavours and a lovely crust which wasn't brick hard. Service is super super friendly and casual and the pizzas didn't take long at all. We had some wait to pay at the bar at the end of our night which is why this review isn't 5 stars. There's also a deal from 5-7 where you can get a pizza and a glass of wine or beer (from a set selection) for £9. The decor inside is totally unique with a fantastic opaque glass roof and tree in the centre of the pub. Love the Clutha- will be back again soon.
