WOW, this appeared out of nowhere for me. I'm sure a staple for the neighbourhood, but I had no clue driving everyday on South Kingsway, with this hidden gem in the background. I came here only for a certain type of shortbread, which I just realized is a seasonal product. I expected a small store, but I was OVERWHELMED. It's not just cheese. Its divided into sections, and I probably didn't even see the whole place. It's almost like a museum of food. You start with some gourmet sauces, and move into coffee and teas, the biscuits and preserves, then pastries and breads, then mustards, there are so many kinds! Then there is a small produce section. Then a room dedicated to all things italian, including olive oil, pastas (SO MANY kinds I've never seen before RAINBOW coloured?!) - each floor to ceiling shelves. A WALL of pasta. I was in awe. Then in the next section is meats and cheeses. There's an upstairs, where you can find pots and pans and other cookware. There is also a dessert/chocolate/cakes section. Wow, i didn't have time to inspect everything in here, they were closing soon. Yes, as expected, there were items that have a clear markup, but there are things in here that you wouldn't find elsewhere. This is the perfect place to pick up a hostess gift. Too bad I discovered it only after Christmas. there's also a small room where they cure the cheeses (?) not sure, but you're asked not to touch anything. Great experience shopping at the cheese boutique, the cheese vault and all the different cheeses. Its foodies dream but a little pricey so I prefer to only go there for unique cheeses since they have the largest selection. They did sell me an epoisse once that smelled strongly of ammonia and was completely inedible. I love cheese, I frequent many cheese shops around the city to find unique cheeses from around the world. I had my first visit to the Cheese Boutique this past Saturday and I was floored with the variety of items the store has to offer. Teas, jams, oils, fresh produce, dry ages steaks, pastries, ready made food, fresh baked breads, cookware and more. They certainly offer more than just cheese. The staff here is very polite, I typically don't go for any particular cheese but love to discover unique cheeses to buy whether it be seasonal, a unique rind, from a particular region, aged for a longer period of time etc. I found the gentleman that helped us not particularly knowledgeable in this manner, though he did know the cheeses they offered, he wasn't really able to pinpoint or explain anything unique (taste, where it came from etc) about each cheese. Nonetheless maybe he was new? But I would expect, of all places, to come to the cheese boutique to find some of the stinkiest, rarest, oldest cheeses offered. Instead I found myself having to point and ask about each cheese to find what I was looking for. Cheese selection: They do have a lot of cheese and go through a lot as well. This means that most of the cheeses are fresh (by that I mean they haven't been shrink wrapped for too long periods of time). The cheese will be specifically labeled if it's one only the Cheese Boutique carries. They also properly wrap each cheese wedge you buy which helps keep it fresh when you take it home. Their price points are definitely more expensive for everything, but you can't compare to their selection, it really is a one stop shop for everything you need to prepare a restaurant quality meal. I bought small wedges of several cheeses which offset the price, the great thing about the Cheese Boutique is that they actually cut the exact size you want/need even if it's the thinnest of slices. read more

This is my own personal Disneyland. I can spend hours walking down the aisles looking at all the imported sauces, oils, preserves, cookies, chocolates, etc. Their selection of cheeses and meat is unparalleled. So far the only place I know that sells burrata (highly recommended - serve it torn open to expose the creamy interior, drizzled with olive oil + salt + pepper, with a loaf of crusty bread) as well as Roaring Forties blue cheese from Australia. They also carry a wide range of cured and fresh meat - Berkshire pork anyone?! They are also generous with their samples and advice. The head cheese mongers are extremely knowledgeable and always ready to help. Had it not been for the friendly cheesemongers, I would never have discovered Comte and Gorgonzola Torte. A visit to Cheese Boutique is not complete without a visit to the vault. I won't say anything else about it - you'll have to go and experience it for yourself. I do have to warn you that you'll spend a pretty penny here. But the difference with the Cheese Boutique and other low-rent wannabe imposters (ahem, Fresh&Wild) is that you do get what you pay for - superior quality and service. I hesitate reviewing this shop, if only for the fact I'd like it to be my own little wonderland. If you love food as I do, this is the place for you!!! read more

Cheese Boutique is the mecca of cheese shops in Toronto. I would give it 5 stars, but the prices of some items leave me laughing. Yes-- laughing, because the joke is on me for paying such ridiculous prices for things I know are not really worth that much. It's not so much the cheese prices that I find offputting, but the non cheese products such as crackers, pasta, oils, jams and jellies etc. I'm not sure why they charge so much for this stuff. In fact, I've searched for similar products in health food stores downtown where the overhead is higher and the prices were far lower. Prestige Pricing maybe? Anyway... this place is a treat to visit! SO many different types of cheeses, terrines, meats. If you're throwing a party, definitely visit the Cheese Boutique to put together a cheese and charcuterie platter. When I walk into the Cheese Boutique I always get Gene Wilder singing "Pure Imagination" in my head as a prance around the glorious wheels of cheese!!! I don't even want to admit to you how much money I have dropped in this place. Do you know what a Griolle is? Its a machine that only does one thing: makes cheese flowers from ONE type of cheese. That's it. If you don't have that cheese then its useless. The hubs said it would pay for itself over time as he slowly hands over his credit card while I shake my head slowly... Anyway - from their discount 3 for $30 cheese (a good way to try new cheeses you've never had before) to their extremely knowledgeable staff (one of them was just brought into the high society poobah's of cheese or some crap), to their Turkish black tea samples and their Berkshire prosciutto, the CB has every thing a snobby cheese lover could want. I highly recommend the following: Guinness cheese (made with beer!!), Tete de moine (for you other 3 Griolle owners out there :P), Delice brie and Smoked Applewood. read more

I was actually dragged here by my friend but I am so glad she did! I love this place. It has a wide array of culinary products and of course cheese. The staff are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The only downside to the store is the location, it is basically in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, and the parking can be a bit of a challenge when it is busy! My favourite is the Eagle's Nest which is a raw goat's milk cheese it is fantastic, you should be eating it right now! I also like the Irish Cheddar with Whiskey it is yummy! It can be a little on the expensive side, last time I was there I spent 50$ on cheese! But it is completely worth it for the quality! Start saving your loonies for cheese!! read more

The Cheese Boutique is every cheese lovers dream. They are a high end specialty food store. With wall to wall sections of all types of tea, pasta, oils, vinegars, chocolate ........OMG! So many varieties. How can I choose one from the next. The cheese room has so many different cheeses to choose from. Lots of imported cheese. Samples are in abundance when selecting that special cheese. I purchased a Goat Milk Cheese called 'Eagles Nest' pares beautifully with a glass of red wine. The bakery section is full of home baked items. I bought the berry crumble pie. Small and expensive but worth every bite. I was in awe of this place from the moment I walked in. The marinades were in abundance, coffee, tomatoe sauces,galore. Really cool brands of Multi coloured pasta. Fresh meat counter and prepared foods. Upstairs houses various housewares. A closed cabinet of exclusive Balsamic Vinegars was visual at the bottom of the stairs. Beautiful hand painted plates. And finally a really neat map of Italy showing the various wines from each region. TIP: when you plan to visit The Cheese Boutique make sure you have lots of time to ensure you enjoy all what this wonderful store has to offer. Can't wait for my next visit . read more

I finally made the trek down to this store. My friend and I were amazed the moment we stepped in. Floor to ceiling products for the first few rooms. This store is laid out like a Stew Leonards or an ikea where you walk through room to room of simliar products (pickles, hot sauces, tea/coffee, produce etc...). You could probably spend an entire day in the store, looking at all the items. When you finally make it to the cheese counter, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable (and seem to out number you 2 to 1). I wold go for one of the cheeses they age extra in their cave, well worth it. read more

Even though you can eat deliciously here it's not a restaurant. You can shop for all the ingredients for a six course Italian / French / American dinner party but I wouldn't call this place a supermarket. It's simply unique among food purveyors. The selections and variety are truly spectacular. I could have spent a full day here just looking. On top of that the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, cheerful patient and happy to assist. Even down to the parking lot attendant who saw me struggle to get out of the car, I've hurt my back a few days ago in NY, he kindly pulled me out and helped me stand up. All while smiling warmly despite the chilly Toronto breeze that my friends were describing as mild. Bloody chilly in my mind. I bought Irish Tea ( Barry's) Irish Cheese ( Cashel Blue ) French made strong Dijon mustard , a box of licorice allsorts, and a ham and cheese baguette. The Cheese Boutique is one of my favourite places to shop. I have been going there for years. The service is unparalleled, I am always greeted with an espresso and a smile. The staff is knowledgable and ALWAYS willing to help (Stephanie from the meat and cheese section is incredible and passionate about the products. SHES THe BeST!)I cannot sing this places praises enough. They have everything known to man in this store. An amazing selection of olive oils, mustards, cheeses, meats and a plethora of other things (too much to name). They service many of the top restaurants in Toronto. At the meat and cheese station there is a list of these restaurants and I intend on trying them all. On the second floor they even have cookware! They have a lot of Le Creuset cookware at reasonable prices and chef quality knives. I have been diagnosed with celiac (allergy to gluten based grains) and they even have a large section of gluten free deserts! I love espresso and the espresso they have is the best I have ever had, Starbucks pales in comparison.It is such a great experience I jump at every opportunity go there as it is such a feel good place to shop! read more

Their mission is: Gastronomic indulgence for everyone, which is pretty close to the truth. Wandering from the entrance to the cheese counter in what feels like a labyrinth brings you past tons of gourmet delights and often unique items for a store in Toronto. For me, the cheese is often the ultimate goal, but I rarely can help picking up a few items here and there as I pass through the rest of the store. There is always a staff member near by too, if I need help (or help identifying something). Eventually, you will make your way to the namesakes of the store, the cheese counter and the cheese vault. This is an incredible experience. The cheese here on offer is fantastic, especially the vault, which is filled with cheese being aged. Stop, try some cheese, check out some unique Cheese Boutique cheeses and perhaps a boar terrine and some fresh bread. Now, my one quibble. It's about their mission. I wish YELP would let me give it 10 stars... Someone mentioned this little "cheese store" near my place, so I was expecting something on par with Leslieville Cheese. My word, but I was wrong! This is food heaven. Massive sections of olive oils, vinegars, salsas, mustards, pastas, sauces, flours, etc.! Delicious savoury and sweet bakeries, a deli, of course - cheeses, and a kitchenware section. It is absolutely indescribable, except to say that everyone who loves good (real) food *must* visit here. While shopping, we were served complimentary teas, and treated with almost shocking courtesy. The food is incredibly good, so much variety, and the prices were on par (and frequently less than) my local Sobey's but with so much more pleasant of an experience that I really would happily pay a premium to shop there. If they offered an overnight option I would happily spend a week straight in the Cheese Boutique. read more

You will walk through a maze of salsas, sauces, oils and vinegars. The you can sniff coffees and ogle prepared foods. A hard right brings you into a room with great produce (I bought and pickled sea asparagus) and a fabulous meat counter. After a room filled with pasta to the ceiling you end up at the crown jewel..the cheese counter featuring an array of international and local cheeses, many exclusive to the Cheese Boutique. I brought home a fresh brisket as well as a few Ontario and Quebec fromages. It's a journey reminiscent of a trip through the Masterchef pantry. This place is so cool...I don't even know where to begin. A feast for the senses.. mainly good, until you reach the stinky cheese, which come on.. is still pretty good. Theres a "scent sensitive" area, a room, containing hanging meat and huge wheels of cheese.. as a photographer I was itching for my camera. Delicious looking salad bar, tons of teas, pastas, chocolate.. area with fresh fruits and meat. Left with fresh donates, warm bread (They offered to slice it then apologized several times when they couldn't because it was still warm.. no apology necessary) two types of cheese, fresh lettuce and prosciutto. Workers came around with free Italian lemon aid, and espresso with biscotti. Very welcoming! Will visit again! read more

The Cheese Boutique has delicious cheese--tons and tons of them. It was here that I discovered the world of cheeses from the sharp aged Mimolette to Brie de Meaux. The Pristine family is very knowledgable in cheese, and like many Kosovo-Albanians, they are hospitable. Not only are the cheeses delicious, fresh and wrapped nicely but Cheese Boutique also had delectable olives in truffle oil and REAL rare roast beef that's actually more on the rare side. They sell black and white truffles as well as other great necessities for a culinary treat in your own home. I love coming here but it is so far and out of the way, that trips are infrequent. You can take the bus from Runnymede Station and it will take you to the Cheese Boutique. Enjoy! read more

Every time I visit (and I live very close by, so I visit often!), I am blown away by the service here. I have never had to ask for assistance with anything - there is always someone asking if I need help, or asking if I've been looked after, and not in an over-bearing way. As much as I know the cheese is the central focus and highlight of the business (it is an INCREDIBLE selection!), I think the butchers here are some of the friendliest, most helpful and knowledgeable butchers I have ever dealt with. After 7 years as a vegetarian, cooking meat again was very intimidating. But the guys here are great with advice and suggestions any time I have any questions, and I really appreciate that. My favourite place to shop for food in this city, hands down. read more

Beyond that, I must give the experience a three star because of the service. Several of the staff are courteous but most of them range from indifferent to out and out rude. It was a risky move to relocate the Cheese Boutique from its old digs on Bloor West, but the current building (though well off the beaten track) is much better, allowing them to show off even more of their interesting imported foods. Fancy cheese and meat is their, er, bread and butter, but they also stock a lot of delicious sauces, pastas, exotic produce, and even have a small wine cellar. Don't miss the coffee/tea section, which is on a narrow second-floor balcony overlooking the main deli area. Like the rest of the store, it's densely stocked, but neat and well organized enough so that it's not a hassle to find things. They're also great with mini-events and tastings; I've often come here and been able to nibble on a free sample or sip some wine while a friend would go about his or her shopping. Absolute go to place if you're hosting a wine and cheese night. It's located in a residential neighbourhood so it's a little odd the first time you turn in. But this place is so worth it, they have everything you would ever want on your charcuterie board. I was helped by a older gentleman who was extremely patient with me. I had no idea what I wanted exactly so he slowly went through different types of cheese and gave me so many samples. I think I took up at least 30 mins of his time! If I was having an extravagant dinner party and wanted to pull out the stops a trip here would be in order for the CB is Toronto's version of Dean & Deluca. It truly is a culinary heaven owing to their expansive array of goods and their knowledgeable staff. Truffles are available here for a pretty penny. Exotic olives and jams they got 'em. Need some fixings for a charcuterie board? Try their case of pates, sausages and other cured meats. Order up some exquisite prosciutto just so you can say hello to 'Enzo', their star imported hand cranked slicer. And let's not forget the cheese, for the selection is unparalleled throughout Toronto. Local, imported, aged, sheep, goat the list runs the gamut. Finally no trip here is complete without a visit to their cheese 'cave'-a special humidor created for the affinage, the aging of cheese. The cheese cave is the equivalent of a bank vault: one step inside will leave you marvelling at the valuable wheels of cheese and their heady aromas. Some are aged specifically for the top restaurants in town, all lookee no touchee! Definitely worth trip out to the western part of town, especially if you are looking for some special or extra nice! Overwhelming to say the least but the staff here makes it very approachable. Staff is everywhere to when it doubt, just ask and they will help. We got a few cheese, an amazing bison terrine, some crackers, a spicy salami and a red velvet cake shaped like a Canadian flag which was cool. Got all this for a family BBQ that night and everything was eaten that day. Only reason we I review 4 stars is a bit pricey but that makes sense because of how large the selections. Ask for a sample of anything and a cool bonus they serve you sparking juice while you shop. Nice touch there. Also wish they had signs on how they price out cheese and how much each is. read more

I have travelled around the world and love specialty food places. This is by far the most interesting store, most comprehensive in its stock and very fun to shop at. Warning - if you come just browsing, or wanting to pick up a few items, you will leave spending hundreds of dollars. The cheese selection is the largest I have seen in Toronto. The service is great - they give you lots of attention and let you try everything. I supplied our Wine & Cheese party with the cheese here and they were fantastic. They also created little picks with signs for the cheese as it is displayed so your guests know what they are tasting. The additional preserves, chocolates, bakery are AMAZING. If trying an assortment of different cheeses is your thing then this place should satisfy that fix. But be careful because you can easily rack up the $$ on their cheeses and imported product.. I suggest not buying the non speciality cheeses that you can find at your everyday supermarket. This place also has a great selection of sausages, quality meats, and imported dry foods that you most likely wouldnt find at big brand stores. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable which is a big thing for me to come back. The atomosphere is very inviting. you feel like you need to walk around and look at all their cool imported products before you leave. A europeanish experience. Talk about a sensory overload! This place is packed to the brim with items, you could spend a whole day looking through everything. The store is laid out fairly well, they basically set out a path for you to follow starting with the a large wall of sauces, curries and dips then through the teas and cookies section. Followed by a fresh fruit/vegetable section thats linked with a prepared food counter. Next, a room full of dried pasta, tomato sauces (including some of the best canned pizza sauces I've ever used) and a wall full of dozens of types of oils. The main attraction is the cheese/meat counter that staffs some of the most pleasant and knowledgeable people. I usually rely on them for advice on pairings and what would work well in various dishes and they have never steered me wrong. There is also a sealed room for the "strong" cheeses which I have not ventured into yet. I highly recommend their spicy sausages that they sell prepacked in the little fridge for you next BBQ. They're also one of the few places I have found that sells Tipo 00 flour used to make authentic italian pizza dough. Their prices are higher than your normal grocery store which is to be expected based on the quality of their products. But know that some of their items are available at the standard players (loblaws, sobeys) for less. I typically stick to buying only the items that I know are only available here. The owner walks around from time to time sharing treats and cups of tea which is a really nice touch and elevates the shopping experience. The only complaint I have is regarding their parking lot, the curbs are at a steep angle and it is difficult to go up them without scraping your car, you need to approach them at an angle. read more
