Came all the way to Cheesetique in Old Town expecting a cute Cherry Blossom pop-up moment...and yeah, I'm a little disappointed. I thought it was going to give pretty, spring aesthetic, photo ops, the whole vibe. Instead, it was super minimal, like one small sign acknowledging the season and a limited seasonal menu that didn't really hit. My friends and I tried both the seasonal and regular menu. I had the shrimp in garlic olive oil (delicious), lasagna, the one mocktail they offered, and the matcha cheesecake for dessert. Everything was good...just not WOW. Like solid, but not memorable. Our waiter Ian was cool, no complaints there. Service was smooth. The location in Old Town is nice, but there were a lot of people out walking their dogs, which just isn't my thing. I think I'm mostly sad because I came ready for cute pictures and there was no accent wall, no moment. And I was looking GOOD too . read more

I've been to Cheesetique a number of times now and it never fails to impress. Even simple menu items like cheese curds or bacon end up knocking your socks off! The servers are all knowledgeable about the wine and cheese, and I've never been steered wrong by their recommendations. My most recent trip was for brunch, and as someone who loves savory *and* sweet in the morning, there was no shortage of both. One of my favorite places in Del Ray. The service is usually very good and the food selections are outstanding. We were fortunate to be seated in the back room which felt like a private experience as we were the only ones. The back room features a long wall of wine bottles, dark walls and a video screen showing art work. The lighting is low which adds to the setting. We shared the fondue which came with pieces of bread, grapes and pickles. The cheese in the fondue pot was a blend that was peppery. The goat cheese and pear salad is not to be missed. Connected to the restaurant is a cheese shop that has a great selection of cheese and some meats. Be sure to visit. I took my sister and cousin to Cheesetique in Mt Vernon for lunch yesterday. I've been several times in the past since I'm a cheese lover. I ordered the watermelon, shrimp and feta salad which was phenomenal I also ordered the tomato soup which is always delicious My sister also ordered the watermelon, shrimp and feta salad along with a loaded baked potato and spinach dip. She enjoyed all of her food. My cousin ordered a chicken club sandwich which she said was delicious Our experience was amazing thanks to the manager and server. I have always loved this place but we moved away from the area awhile back. Flew into town to visit family and stopped through. Participated in a cheese tasting contest on the retail side and ordered a charcuterie board and some drinks on the restaurant side. Cheesetique is a super cute restaurant and market. I went in one day for lunch with a friend. We had great service and were sat at a table quickly. I couldn't resist a grilled cheese and tomato soup! They have a nice lunch special - half a sandwich, tomato soup and side salad. It's so nostalgic having this as an adult. The tomato soup was thick, creamy and perfect for dunking. The grilled cheese wasn't my favorite. It was lacking that great crunch on the bread and could have been more melty. The greens are nicely dressed and a nice fresh side. Overall, I really enjoyed it! A testimonial to this Restaurant/Wine/Cheese Store. This was one of my FAVORITE places to eat when we lived in Alexandria, VA back in 2010-2013! It was my special splurge and we adored their Grown Up Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Now this is not your ordinary one, it is huge, amazingly CRISPY and three cheeses. The fact that they are STILL HERE, the food tastes as good as I remember it, well...they must be doing something right. This is one of those places that I'd lived near for several years but never heard of and I'm sad. Cheesetique is fantastic. I love that they change the menu seasonally and I stopped in during the cherry blossom menu. While here I got the cherry grilled cheese and the Sakura kiss cocktail. The grilled cheese was delicious with cherries and brie cheese with fries. Enough for me to have leftovers but I couldn't let that happen. The Sakura kiss was strong. Sake,vodka and maraschino liqueur. I would ask for some extra cherry juice to be added or have it on the side to be added as necessary. Still, a great drink. Service was the cherry on top here. Aside from the amazing customer service and easy parking, their food is always so good. It's nice to go to a place where the servers actually seem like they like to work there and are treated fairly. Their short rib is definitely my favorite thing that I always come back for along with their Keylime cheesecake. I'm not a big cheesecake person but this is some of the best cheesecake I've ever had, it's so fluffy and fresh. This is such a cute little woman owned café. The bread dipping pieces were kinda of cold. Blackened chicken breast sandwich was moist, but you can really get a chicken sandwich anywhere lol. Very disappointing experience. If there was a corkage fee, it should have been communicated when we handed the staff our sparkling wine bottle and asked for a fresh ice bucket. Instead, one member of our group was pulled aside and asked if we had stolen the bottle. Being accused of theft as paying guests was shocking and unnecessary. The situation was made worse when another employee approached us with a snide and disrespectful attitude. What was most disappointing was the lack of accountability afterward. We were polite to everyone involved and expected the same courtesy. Instead, we were labeled as "people who do this all the time." We live nearby and Cheestique has become our go-to for out of town guests, or last night, my wife's birthday. They have great shareabke dishes like the charcuterie boards and fondue. The sandwiches are also great. Dipping the little pickles in the fondue is surprisingly good. The beer selection is limited and not tap. I happen to like the Port City Hazy IPA, $9. My wife wanted a riesling with the fondue, but they don't have one on the menu. She was very surprised. She instead got a cocktail she's had before and said they're good. Service is consistently good. They've tried to put us in the back room every single time for unknown reasons. Now that it is cold out the back has a warm ambience and is quieter. I prefer sitting by the animal portraits and having friends pick which one best represents their spouse, and why. Get some funny responses. Prices fine. No one has balked. We'll be back with a big lineup of friends and family coming to town. read more

This is why I love the Del Ray neighborhood... places like Cheesetique, small businesses in the middle of a historic Alexandria neighborhood makes it feel like a small town instead of being a short Metro ride to downtown DC. Cheesetique is serving up 1st class foodie food, a wine shop, a cheese shop, and neighborhood bar all in one. Their take on shrimp and grits - just like everything else I've tried here - is a unique yet true to the original work of art. The 'tique cheesesteak arrives looking like a delicious sandwich until you bite into it and your mind is blown by the flavour explosion. The super friendly staff recommended a great red to pair with the sandwich and took the experience to the next level. The food is so unique that it is hard to describe but easy to be love at first bite. I work in DC but live a few states away and commute in. If I lived in DC - anywhere in the Metro area - I'd be working my way thru the entire menu and wine list. read more

Happy hour at Cheesetique just kicked off. Can we talk? The $5 plates were delightful, perfect size and well plated. The Wagu sliders were the best things ever to hit Mount Vernon Ave. The problem singing their praises is then word gets out and we won't get back in for a super happy hour. The cocktails were very done well. The one called the Del Ray Buzz was not too heavy and did not overwhelm with gin flavor. This is new for this restaurant and they are working out the quirks but the staff was pleasant and accommodating. Happy hour is only offered at the bar and some tables in the lounge. Make sure you confirm before getting seated. They did have music when we were there. Since space is at a premium, until the seating issues are worked out, it might good to hold off. Music in a small restaurant can be overwhelming if not placed correctly. read more

Decided to go in for restaurant week.. it wasn't super busy bar was somewhat full and a few tables taken up. Service was still somehow pretty slow. We had been seated and it took a while for anyone to come over and when they did we asked a question about the restaurant week menu and the cheese board.. which we were given incorrect information on the cheeses that came with app.. we asked for 2 extra minutes to choose with the info we were given.. about 10 minutes later the server came back and we clarified the cheese types and placed our order.. the entire thing was asked, app-meal-dessert, which I hate doing anyway because I feel rushed when you're enjoying an app and your meal then comes out before you're ready.. which was the case. The food was delicious. Everything was flavorful and made as expected. I got the braised short ribs which again was good, until I almost ate twine that was left on the meat. We said something to server who nervously laughed and said "sorry" and asked if I wanted to have a new one made (I did not request it) and then he disappeared which we assumed he would notify a manager of the mishap.. we had enough time to finish what we were finishing and still sat for another 10-15 minutes without our server or anyone coming back until the manager then came over and said he heard about the incident with the twine and offered apologies and a gift card to try and make it right to an extent. We talked a minute and accepted the gift card and apology. We then did have to ask about the dessert that came with my restaurant week order that still had not come out. Which it then did shortly after. The experience was a little subpar from what I've experienced there previously and from the expectations of a restaurant that's been in the neighborhood a while. The food mishap was also not expected here or anywhere you'd expect to eat either. I did appreciate the apologies and the attempt to make it right in the end. Visited Cheestique with a group of friends and co-workers during the Del Ray Gallery Thursdays. The place is very charming. It has an area with a bar and a restsurant, nicely decorated with a variety of paintings and art. An adjacent area is a small but well supplied wine store. But the amazing feature of Cheestique is, of course, the cheese counter! It reminded me of a Parisian fromagerie (cheese store), with an amazing selection and variety of cheeses, both international, American, including local dairies. The restaurant area is cozy, and it may be a nice romantic date site. We all had a variety of appetizers. I had a cheese board that included both raw milk and regular cheeses, grapes, fresh baguette slices, seeded crackers, mustard, etc. The server was also warm, helpful and apptoschsble. Maybe I hyped it up too much in my head before going, but my experience at Cheesetique was a mixed bag for sure... My friend and I went this past week and had made a reservation. When we came inside, the host greeted us and immediately walked us to a table in the back wine room. The room is GORGEOUS, and my friend and I really appreciated the cool, more dimly lit atmosphere for dinnertime. While the hostess did bring us a bottle of water to start, I do not believe that we were ever actually assigned a server after that. After getting seated/getting our water, we proceeded to sit and wait while the rest of the room filled up with other guests. We watched multiple tables who had been sat after us get their drinks and then food, so we ended up having to stop a server walking by to ask if we could put a drink order in with them. We ended up just ordering everything at once to be safe. Then our food came out, we ate... and then waited again. Every table eventually cleared out of the restaurant except for us. With no server attending to our table, we were left in the back room waiting to get the check to leave. We tried to be patient, but when we noticed that the clock was at 9:02pm (the place closed at 9pm) and that no employees had passed through the room in awhile, we knew we would need to specifically go and seek out someone to get us a check so we could leave. It was clear that we were forgotten about the whole time. I would have been more forgiving with the lack of service if the food had blown me away, but it didn't. The absolute best thing we had was the warm olives with manchego and I did also like my Green Goddess Sandwich. However the fried cheese curds were soggy the moment they got to our table, the mac and cheese was surprisingly bland, and both items came to our table room temp/already cold. I was genuinely excited to go to Cheesetique, but because of the poor service experience and food, I don't think I would return for anything except the cute wine/cheese storefront. I am giving them two stars for this experience - one for the decor of the inside of the shop and the second for the warm olives and manchego. read more

Came here for brunch and would recommend this place. I started with a charcuterie board and was able to pick my cheese and meat. The board was good; however, I do believe they left the chocolates off the board mistakenly as it was added to my to-go bag. Also, I wish I was seated at a larger table as the board and the food couldn't be accommodated on the small square-sized tables in the restaurant. For my entree, I got the pancakes with bacon. The pancakes were just ok. I was expecting a little more. I wish I was able to order a side of eggs, but they didn't have that as an option. The waiter was patient and friendly. This is a great spot in Del Ray. I worked at Cheestique when it first opened in 2004 and am impressed with how much this shop has grown. The owner Jill is passionate about cheese, and has grown this tiny cheese shop into a major DC business. My family stopped by to get some cheese and stayed to get some dinner. My partner loved the grown up mac n' cheese. I ordered the Cheesetique cheesesteak which was so delcious. It was steak, with tellegio on a delicious roll with a side salad. Our kids enjoyed the mac n' cheese and grilled cheese options while we loved the outdoor seating and the tasty wine selection. My husband got a glass of saugvinon blanc and I had a pinot noir from oregeon (a region that i typically don't love but enjoyed this particular sample). We truly enjoyed our time here. The place itself is small with some more seating in the back so I would say a reservation is a must. We came for restaurant week and I got the french onion soup which was ok. I go the gnocchi and cheesecake where both were solid. I tried the cheeseteak which not that cheesy but the bread and meat were solid as well. Great service!
