This Brisket is really dry/somewhat burnt and hard. Red beans and rice Always good! Gravy is good!

The young lady that looked like she was new was VERY pleasant. The lady with the bun in the back her attitude is shitty. We asked about senior discount and she said we not doing It right now. So we wanted to know what hours and she says (without any eye contact unprofessional) we're not doing It. I usually come for the Ox tails they're so Darn good ( none today ). She could've been nicer but maybe she's having a bad day. She actually went from nice to me. Soooo If I see her in there I'll just come back another time. She not representing what Chef Marilyn is all about and her customer service just got worst and worst. There has to be other places to go.. The whole facial expression at the end was Terrible . The three is for the nice young lady who greeted us very professional. The nice young lady might get us to come back she was an

First time to chef Marilyn's on a Tuesday and it definitely did not disappoint. First thing to note is that it's a take out place and it's priced per item. It's a relatively small spot so it only fits a few people inside, the line will lead to outside. When it came to the food, it was all that we asked for. We saw a lot of people hype up the Mac and cheese and it definitely deserves the hype, cooked perfectly with plenty of cheese. Both chickens and catfish were tender with lots of juice and flavor. Mash potatoes were soft and the gravy paired perfectly. Cornbread was the only that was just okay but still really good. The woman that was serving was by herself and was really helpful and patient with everyone. Definitely created a welcoming service.

Sundays seem to be when I crave Mac & cheese and my dining partner wants the smothered turkey wings. I called mid Sunday afternoon and inquired if these delectable items were still available and alas they were, a friendly voice Ms. Ariel answered the phone and said she would have the food waiting for me upon arrival. As soon as I arrived there was a decent line, I'm guessing the beautiful post Church crowd also wanting their Sunday Soul Food Fix. I walked to the front, and Ms Ariel personally handed me my food items. After paying, and opening the precious cargo in my car I dived into baked salmon & Macaroni & cheese: both were cooked to perfection, in fact I scarfed the Mac & cheese so fast I considered going back in for a second portion.... Lip smacking good. The smothered turkey wing is a large portion and yielded my dining partner several servings. There were several patrons in line who said it was their first time and asked me for recommendations, I rattled off quite a long list of options and they smiled in anticipation. Kudos to this Black woman owned business serving delicious soul food for countless Angelenos.

Learned about Chef Marilyn on the show "Worth It" Season 3, Episode 1 Mac N Cheese...I just had to try this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2COl0ui4Sc This is old school Soul Food that has been around for 30 years...its traditional, delicious, and made with love. $5 Mac N Cheese...definitely soul food style, a little pricy for what it is. $5 Collard Greens...traditional and tasty, again a bit pricy $.69 Cornbread...yes please! $6.50 Smothered Pork Chop...a nice meaty pork chop in a light gravy. $2.25 Fried Chicken Thigh and $2.85 Chicken Wing...this was the BEST part of my meal. The batter is thick and crispy, with juicy tender meat inside. I've eaten A LOT of fried chicken in my time, and Chef Marilyn's is amongst the best, and its CHEAP! Before you Yuppies, Elitists and Trust Funds Kids come visit, keep in mind this is on Crenshaw, its Cafeteria style, no alcohol, and Take Out only without anywhere nearby in walking distance to sit at. I wouldn't call it the Ghetto, but its definitely not West Hollywood or Beverly Hills.

Fried Chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 2. Meatloaf with rice and gravy and cabbage. 3. Fried chicken dinner with greens, macaroni and cheese, and dressing with gravy. A guy at a nearby table mentioned that the chicken was overcooked but we requested a light fry and really enjoyed the chicken. The green beans were seasoned perfectly with sliced carrots and onions. The only two issues were the cabbage wasn't seasoned well and needed to be cooked longer. Also the cornbread was not sweet and was reheated in a microwave. Overall all of us enjoyed our meal! Plus the strawberry lemonade was delicious and not too sweet. If back in Cali, I'll be back!

Unfortunately, the customer service experience at the front counter has made those visits less enjoyable recently. To be fair, this feedback is directed toward one employee, not the entire staff. Over the past couple of months, I've consistently felt unwelcome when placing my order. I wouldn't describe the interactions as outright rude, but the demeanor often comes across as cold and unfriendly. Customer service plays a big role in the overall dining experience, especially for returning customers. A simple smile, friendly greeting, or positive interaction can make a significant difference. Because I enjoy the food so much, I hope this feedback is taken constructively. For now, I may start visiting another location where the customer service feels more welcoming, even though I prefer the food at this location. I truly hope the customer experience improves because the food is excellent and deserves to be matched by equally great service.

I'm a longtime customer 20+ years deep ever since they had restaurants in Marina Del Rey and Mr Dylan the dad ran it. I have literally eaten at every location they have and the restaurant on Crenshaw is my favorite. Located on a busy street with limited parking the area is crowded with people. I walk up and immediately start drooling the smell of soul food in the air is very intoxicating. my go to meal is almost always oxtails or fried chicken with a side of dressing greens macaroni and cheese potato salad and candied sweet potatoes. Here's what I ordered. Oxtails Tender and delicious smothered in gravy seasoned to perfection. 10/10 Dressing Thick fluffy and delicious just like my mom made. And drizzled with gravy it's the bomb. I0/10 Macaroni And Cheese It's good but needs a little more seasoning but it's still delicious. 8/10 Greens Tender perfection and seasoned very well. 8/10 Potato Salad Delicious it's a must have part of my meal I love it. 8/10 Candied Yams Tender buttery and sweet. 10/10 Last visit I had Yellow cake and chocolate frosting it's soo yummy. 10/10 I didn't get any this time and regretted it when I got home. lol It's always super crowded at Dylan's so be prepared to wait and believe you me it's definitely worth waiting for. I'm having a nice drive back home to Long Beach until next time. Just me Shawn C.

A meal typically includes a meat and 3 sides and the portions are huge. Our party of 3 was more than full sharing 2 dishes including 6 sides. The short rib was so tender and the wings and cat fish were also very flavorful. In the past I also liked their oxtail a lot and I can't wait to come back and get that next time. You really can't go wrong with any of the sides but we ordered the Candied Yams, Fried Okra, Potato Salad, Mac and Cheese, Corn Bread Dressing, and Greens with Smoked Turkey. The Mac and Cheese is probably my favorite but the Fried Okra is a close second and it's hard to find that in LA so I would recommend getting it.
