Good fast sushi. Called in a few times with no answer and tried to use their online but they only go through with door dash type of orders. I called to see if my order online went through and they told me that website on Apple Maps doesn't work so I would receive an email saying my card was refunded so I just ordered over the phone. Even better cause I asked about their large platters and they were available with a 30 mins wait. We added a king roll that you would see in my pic on the left for this specialty sushi platter. Small parking lot and a pretty busy one so be careful coming in or leaving. The location is right off the freeway in a corner beside a gas station and other shops. This review is for the chicken plate. The flavor and what you get is completely different now since the change in ownership. I came here once maybe a few months ago to see if it was still good but I thought I just got a bad plate. I loved coming here prior to the change because the chicken tasted similar to Sarku's. Now the chicken (and for beef for the first time) is completely flavorless without the sauce on top. No flavor of garlic, only soy sauce and sugar. AND! The veggies now are broccoli and freaking raw ass BAGGED SALAD. No yummy steamed cabbage, no carrots. I'm glad I went next door to Asia Express to grab another plate since I didn't have a good feeling about it. Sooooo, perhaps it's under new management - but I doubt I'll ever go back at this point, which is truly a shame because I've been a loyal, regular customer for years! Sam and Stu? (Chefs, but is that really their names?) Really screwed it up today! Service has been sub-par last few visits but today took the cake! They were super rude - when I arrived slightly before opening. Mind you, doors are wide open. I asked cashier if it was ok to order as it was a little early (like 10-15 min) and she said yes. I placed my full order and paid. Then Sam gives me a very annoyed look and says, "well, it's going to be 30 mins because we are not even open yet." I just smiled and said that's fine, and I'll be back. I literally set my alarm for 30 so I wouldn't be late - went to Seafood City (down Hesperian) picked up groceries, got back in 30 min and it was still not ready. No biggie, maybe a few more minutes - I ordered a lot. I wait, cooks just chatting no update or acknowledgement of my return. Finally cashier comes with what I thought was my order - she's sweet as can be and apologizes for the long wait, but that's it. Thought ok, I'm good - but let me check cuz order looks light. And yes after checking everything I realized they missed my lion king roll. I told her, she told them - and they respond with, "well, it's not ready yet." Again, not acknowledging me at all. As if I'm invisible. And it's not a big deal I've now been waiting 45 min for my food. Really? And were you going to say anything?! The presentation was messy, soggy vegetables and severely sauced chicken and steak teriyaki. The food seems like a teppanyaki style and put on a bento, styrofoam box. Salad was not fresh and overly dressed with leftover dressing at the bottom compartment. They put the gyoza next to the main compartment with the overly teriyaki sauce which made it drenched. California roll was amateur with too much rice. Spicy tuna roll was like a purée tuna and not like a fillet tuna. This place wasn't the same as it used to for a long time now. They need to do better with quality, even though it is a fast food. After eating, I just want to put some nice antidote in my mouth from all the saltiness and sogginess I ate. I felt like I've eaten something different rather than a Japanese take out, except for the sushi part. I thought, I might as well have ordered next door. I was visiting my best friend in Hayward for her birthday. She was in the mood for sushi, so I Yelped for local sushi spots. Chef Teriyaki was the closest to her house and had overall positive reviews. Chef Teriyaki was located in the corner of a tiny strip mall. I was thinking that the place was going to be a nice sit-down spot to celebrate my bestie's birthday, so I was thrown off when I realized it was more like a fast-food/take-out type of restaurant. Due to the nature of the restaurant you would order and pay upfront, and then the food would come out in to-go foam boxes even if you were dining in. This restaurant was a prime example of never judging a book by it's cover though. The quality of the sashimi and rolls was not bad at all! The food was satisfying and hit the spot for me. There were some good daily deals to keep an eye out for. Two specialty rolls were $20 between 2-6pm daily, for example, otherwise they would normally cost ~$25. We ordered the Philly roll, Chef Teriyaki roll, Honey Walnut Shrimp roll, and 10pc mixed sashimi. Besides the Philly roll, which I'm not a fan of in general and therefore didn't try, I thought the specialty rolls were excellent. The Honey Walnut Shrimp roll was my favorite of the three, but they were all very good in their own right. Lastly, customer service was great. The employee at the register was friendly and helpful, and he was kind enough to throw in a couple of extra egg rolls when I redeemed the free egg roll Yelp check-in offer. The Teriyaki chicken tasted old, hard and dried out. The bento box did not include soy sauce or wasabi for the sushi. The speed of the order being ready was great. Perhaps it was not as fresh could account for the speed in preparation. Definitely will not be my first choice restaurant next time. This is my second visit to this place (first review) and their food could be more consistent. I ordered the C-combination with Steak Teriyaki and the sauce was really salty so SODIUM ALERT for those that don't want high salt. The last time I was here, the teriyaki sauce was on the bland side. I asked for low sodium packets of soy sauce for my sushi and was given sriracha and soy sauce (not low sodium). With the teriyaki sauce being so salty, I guess I really didn't need any more salt. The customer after me had to repeat his order several times. Sure hope his order is correctly made. It could be the masks and the fiberglass shields so looking forward to the day we return to normal. This place has gone downhill, since new owners took it over. I saw all the negative reviews, but kept an open mind and went in to give it a try the other day. The food was absolutely atrocious and I will never eat there again. I ordered the steak teriyaki bento and the dry and unseasoned steak was scooped out of some pot, that's been there for who knows how long. Then the nice young lady poured some pre made sauce on top of it. Completely disgusting. And the California roll pieces were terrible. Stay far away from this place. Low-quality ingredients, a rather basic menu, and a bento box that simply didn't satisfy. I'm not sure what kind of artificial crab was used for the California roll, but something tasted off. The dressing-free salad was also disappoint (that's just lettuce!). And the deep-fried potsticker was also rather pallid. This review is not for the food. We never got any. Chef Teriyaki had been on my list of places to try for a couple of years. We're rarely in the area where their restaurant is. One weekday two weeks ago, we went out of our way to pay them a visit. The attraction were some of the colorful platters on yelp. Parking was easy. It's a strip mall with several small businesses that runs perpendicular to Hesperian. Chef Teriyaki is at the front end of the strip. We spent probably 10 minutes perusing the menu on the window before we stepped inside. There were no customers and either four or five employees. All wore masks and there was a plexiglass sheet between the order taker and guests placing orders. There were no other customers at 2pm. The music was louder than appropriate for a customer service environment. My wife stepped up to order while I stayed just inside the entrance door. We were going whole hog and ordered the Deluxe Sushi & Roll Platter for $69.95. We didn't ask for any substitutions or anything special. The order taker asked if we could come back in a couple of hours. We said no and she said 30 minutes. My wife turned to me and I said that was too long. Then the order taker questioned, "15 minutes?". I asked her how we'd gone from couple hours to 30 minutes to 15 minutes. She didn't have an answer. One of the men behind the counter then intervened. He said something I didn't hear. When we made eye contact, he stately very loudly, 30 minutes! We walked out. Good food takes time to prepare properly. With at least four employees working, should it take a couple of hours to make six rolls and eight pieces of nigiri? And if you can cut your time to 30 minutes and then 15, I have to question how much you care about quality and taking care of your guests. The masks and the plexiglass can't be helped. We all want to be safe. But turn the music down and hear what your guests are saying rather than yelling back and forth. It's too bad. We were looking forward to a night of Netflix and Sushi. Great place to get Japanese food quick and go. I ordered ahead before I picked up the food. It took me about 10 minutes to get to the place. The parking was a little tight due to the small lot that they share with other businesses. When I ask for my order, it was all ready and bagged. I paid on the phone but you can also pay in person . I ordered the lion king and rainbow roll. It turned out pretty good for a to-go restaurant. The prices are not bad either for the sushi I ordered. For the looks of the restaurant, I definitely think they should fix it up to look more cleaner and organize. read more

When I want fast, no crazy long line and decent price, this is it. Never had an issue with my order here. Been here a handful of times (even before Covid-19 pandemic), mainly from becoming a fan of their Vegetable Dragon roll. I don't know any other place with a better vegetarian roll.
