If there's one thing I know of restaurants is that there needs to be a seamless melding of flavor and service. If any of those are off balance, then the whole experience is ruined. Sometimes, you'll botch the whole deal and that was what I experienced here at Chef Wong. First off, the service. At first visit, the greeter was sweet and nice. Granted, they try to upsell you with set meals as opposed to the lunch specials they offered at the time. 5.99 black bean noodles (jjajjangmyun) or 6.99 for extreme fire seafood noodle soup (extra spicy jjampong). I was definitely in the mood for the seafood noodle soup and the fact that I was with my mother helping her get groceries, we decided on this place since it was up the road from where we were located at the time. So we get seated and order the set of tangshuyook (sweet and sour pork)/jjajjangmyun/jjampong. And so we sit. The tangshuyook came out first. It's your average run of the mill mediocre tangshuyook. Super citrusy and overtly greasy feel to the fried pork cutlets. So here's where the experience takes a dive into the crapper. My jjampong comes out. First off, we ordered the set so you'd think it all will come out at the same time but it did not. The tankshuyook comes first then my jjampong. Second, when you order hot food, you expect it to be hot. Steaming hot as that heightens flavor. Mine wasn't cold, but certainly wasn't hot as to be expected which disappointed me. With it being a noodle dish, I normally crush the noodles and munch on some of the seafood delectables like shrimp, which should've been too hot to handle by my fingers, but wasn't at all. Third, as I was halfway finished with my dish, my mom's jjajjangmyun comes out. And even looking at it, looked off. The sauce was pretty runny and didn't cling to the noodles well. All of this made me wonder if $20 plus tax and tip was worth it and it certainly wasn't. Needless to say, you live and learn and realize some places do better than others and this place, I'm honestly surprised by how many people like it because my experience was lackluster... at best. read more

Egg drop soup is the best I've had in a long time. Very full and satisfying. The seafood black bean noodle is also top notch. Ask for some of the spicy sauce to add on top. Chefs kiss. Chef Wong is a restaurant that is very spacious but not that many workers so it is a little slow. Other than that the service is amazing and the food is equally good. The quality of the food is very clean and would recommend trying the black noodles and spicy soup noodles ( I only know the Korean way to say it...) It is really hard to find quality quality noodles and this place does it justice. It taste like just how they do it Korea. I heard that management has changed, and although I didn't mind the food back then, I think the food and service has definitely improved since the new management. Great food, cheap price and fast service-exactly what I think/ expect in a korean-chinese restaurant. It was a bit funny how our server was clearly fluent in english since that's what he used when speaking with my non korean friends, but he always reverted back to korean when talking to me. Guess that was more comfortable for him. So if you're asian or look like you might be korean they might try talking to you in korean first before using english! My friends ordered the chicken with lettuce wrap for the appetizer. The lettuce looked fresh and presented nicely. The chicken was good too although we did have 2-3 lettuce leftover (not enough of the meat) We got a sweet and sour beef + jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) + jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup) combo to share for 3 people. Went with a friend by a recommendation. It was interesting. First off, it's a very koreanized Chinese restaurant with a lot to choose from; they also have a great lunch menu to choose from. The potions are really big for the price; everything in the picture only cost 30$. For that much food, it was pretty worth it. The service there was also pretty good; we went at lunchtime and it wasn't that busy but the waitresses were attentive and helpful. They got us everything we needed at a timely manner. The food quality was good for what you pay for but it could have been better. The noodles were good but the soups were a little bland and oily. Presentation was nice though. I don't know if today was an off day but this is the worst tasting Korean-Chinese food I've ever had. I had never been before but my parents had gone a couple of times and said it wasn't bad. Since we wanted something quick and close, we stopped in for a early dinner. It was basically empty - only two other tables were seated. That should have been an indication. My dad ordered a seafood black bean sauce noodle, my mom ordered a seafood fried rice and I ordered my favorite go to, mapo tofu. The tofu wasn't bad but the chunks were so big that the tofu didn't really absorb any flavor from the sauce. It wasn't very spicy and had a mildly sweet taste which was a little weird. My mom's seafood fried rice had more surimi than anything else and had no flavor at all. I mean seriously bland. My dad's seafood black bean sauce noodles weren't very good. The noodles had no bite and the sauce was not up to par. The pork in it was super salty, the squid pieces tasted too seafoody - like it was old. The onions tasted like they were about to turn. Two stars instead of one because the portion sizes aren't bad. Other than that there's nothing positive to say. One more thing, the radish kimchi they give you was sticky like someone spit a big loogie in it. So gross. Forgot to say that service wasn't very good either. They seem kind of cold and bothered to have to serve you. No "bye" or anything when you leave. First and last time for me. I'm better off going to Costco for my $1.50 hot dog/drink combo. Ive been in Korea for 10 years and Ive been spoiled with good, no great ( jjajangmyeong)! Coming back to the ATL ive always known we had it but could it equal or better the taste? Chef Wong had to be the closest. Its hard to find a Chinese place that has great jjajangmyeong and jangppong together. Today the jjajangmyeong was spot on. The jangpong was just okay. We ordered the combo menu that had the sweet and sour pork and jjajangmyeong and jangppong. For $24.99, it wasnt bad at all. The sweet and sour pork was cripsy and sauce was good. I would like to come back soon and try the other menus. We went for an early lunch around 11am. The place was empty but slowly people started coming in around 12pm. The prices are atrocious for the amount, the flavors were replaced by more MSG, and the place is so dirty now. One of the few places you can't see the back kitchen and chefs and for good reason. Great location, ample space and good food. This place has probably the best jjajangmyun (black bean sauce over thin noodles) in the area. It is hard to fins good korean/chinese restaurant and I am sure that it does not get any better than this place. We tried their full course menu with all different dishes and they were all good tasting dishes: cold seafood mex with jellyfish and vegetables, chicken and lettuce wrap, sweet and sour shrimp, vegetable lomein, tansooyook and ganpoongi (fried breaded meat with sweet sauce). When I walked in, the waitress just said, you can go have a seat. And I said excuse me? She thought I was part of another group that walked in when I wasn't even near them. Anyways, ordered jjambbong and yangjanpi and a shrimp dish. It all appeared in 5 minutes. I took a bite of the jjambbong, it was premade and sitting, so the noodles were soggy - same with the yangjangpi, the noodles were caked together and all the food was lukewarm. The lady said I can eat the jjambbong and she wouldn't charge us but I don't eat bad food so I made her to take it back. The reason why this was particularly upsetting was because it was my parents' wedding anniversary dinner and this place TOTALLY ruined the entire evening with just the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten!!!! Overall quality for this restaurant wasn't good. When you come in you are not greeted and there is a sign that tells customers to wait to be seated but you might as well have to seat yourself. I do not know if they were understaffed but customer service wasn't good. We were ready to order and it took awhile to place our order. Awful, worst service ever in my life. After eating lunch dine in today(01/23/2021). My friend paid the food by Credit card, and he wants to pay the tip in cash. But, he has only $6 in small cash. The chef(maybe owner) said mostly guest pay the tip 15%. Then took my friend's credit card and try to pay the tip by credit card. I was upset, and my friend too. When I went there, the food came out very late. After eating, I waited for a while to eat the meal menu. I called several times, but they didn't respond. So I didn't go after that. Great service the bb noodles tasted great and the General Tao was slightly crispy, flavorful, and the chicken tender!!' Not sure why the reviews are so bad. This is one of my family's go-to Chinese restaurants in metro-Atlanta. Great food at a cheap price. It's located in the shopping center near Paris Baguette and Sweet Rice, thus hosts plenty of parking. I have never had an issue with the food at this place. I usually order one of the following (might not be the exact name, because I order in Korean): - Black Bean Noodle - Spicy Seafood Noodle - Sweet & Sour Pork - Spicy Chicken - Mapo Tofu Everything is delicious, and the service has improved since my last visit. I look like a high schooler, and I tend to get poor service at restaurants every so often (especially Asian). However, our server was extremely friendly and attentive. My plate of radish and onions were never empty, and she brought out 2 chili sauce choices, when I requested it. And if you don't like jasmine tea, you can get cold water. Just ask. Had the Szechuan Jajjangmyeon. It was absolutely fantastic. You can tell the sauce isn't made entirely from scratch but for $8.99 it's a steal. It's not your ordinary black sauce noodles; the dish is spruced up with red chilies and an assortment of squid, shrimp and scallops. The restaurant is clean, although the men's restroom could use some fixing (broken toilet door). The food was great for the money and the portions were huge. I had no issues with service. Obviously this is Korea town.. if you speak Korean it makes life a lot easier. It's 2016, have people not figured this out yet? read more

Today is Christmas. There was a long wait when we went there for lunch. We got seated after 15 minutes But had to wait another 45 minutes before we actually got our food. The staff were very patient and friendly. I had black bean noodles and it was wonderful. I'm particularly impressed by the extreme patience of the lady at the front desk. This is a place my family and I frequent to eat jjajangmyun or tangsuyuk when we get those cravings. For the most part, it's good and we try to miss the busy hours so that we aren't waiting on service. The jjajangmyun is pretty good except for there have been times when the noodle was a bit hard. Anyway, we decided to visit this place today to try out their lobster dish that they were advertising over the radio for a really good deal (buy one get one free). We also ordered the chicken lettuce wrap and sweet and sour chicken. We were met with several problems that made it hard for us to enjoy out meal today. First off, service was really bad. We had to call out several times throughout to ask to fill our water, get extra plates, hot tea etc. The first time, the server that we made a request to never came back and we had to call out to another lady who was walking by who ended up bringing our hot tea towards the end of the meal. The lobster dish was a major disappointment. The (buy one get one free) lobster was served already cut and smothered in sauce all in one dish instead of separately. There was barely any meat on the lobsters that we could make a meal out of it. It was just basically lobster shells and sauce. We pointed this out to the server who took it back and brought again which was not much better than before. The chicken in the lettuce wrap was dry and a bit too salty for my taste. I'm not sure if this is an isolated incident with the lobsters or what might have happened with the lobster meat. The server suggested that maybe the meat had fallen out in the cooking process.. which still should not allow for a subpar dish. Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed with the overall serving experience and the food that was served. Although the exterior leaves a lot to be desired, the interior was surprisingly clean and updated from the former Chinese/Korean restaurant that used to be in the space. On the right side of the restaurant is the main dining room with some tables and booth seating. The front-mid corridor offers a couple of private dining tables that are curtained off and the left wing of the restaurant can be closed off for private parties and seat probably 50-60 people. I went with a party of 10 so they let us sit in the private dining area wing and it was very nice to have an empty room so that the 3 small children in our party could make noise and fidget without us feeling bad about interrupting other diners. As for the food, they had an expansive menu of your typical Chinese restaurant, which was broken up into different sections (appetizers, chicken, pork, etc.). They also have a lot of Chinese/Korean dishes like Jajangmyun, kangpoongi, tangsooyuk, and japchae. They had some preset menus for bigger parties, so we went with menu B which included all of the above plus mapa tofu, and a few other dishes. For the price point, we got a TON of food and all the dishes came out in good time and tasted so great. I might even venture to say that their jajagnmyun is the best I've had in Atlanta! Service was wonderful and the food just kept coming and coming. The food in general is pretty sweet if you're into that. The portions are pretty big which is surprising considering we got a combo. While the food was very satisfying, the service was alright.
