Just another hole-in-the-wall Chinese takeout spot, but for some reason, we come here every so often. It's changed hands several times over the years that we've lived in the neighborhood, but the food has been pretty consistent. There's not much variation in Beef & Broccoli, Sweet & Sour Pork or Fried Chicken Wings. What has changed with the current owners is that they've tried to branch out from the cookie cutter Chinese takeout by expanding into other Asian cuisines, such as Thai. The main printed menu still has the standards, but new hand written menu signs hang from the wall with dishes such as Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice (*w/ choice of protein). We still like to get our regular Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, our favorite Cold Sesame Noodles, Sesame Chicken (or Sweet & Sour or General Tso's) & Moo Goo Gai Pan. I like to add a large quart of Wonton Egg Drop soup for good measure because I love soup. It's Chinese-American comfort fast food, not something my mom would make, but it gets the job done quick. Pretty much any size order you throw at them, it will be ready in 20 minutes for pick-up. Those blazing hot woks are no joke. And you get a free can of soda for every $25 spent. You can also get a 32 oz quart of their homemade iced tea that is super sweet, but is a great thirst quencher in the summer. They take credit card payment (not sure which ones, probably Visa & MC) without additional fees and they are closed on Mondays. read more

This is my favorite Chinese spot! I order from here probably once a week. It's so convenient since I work on the next block. The service is fast. The woman is very efficient. The food is delicious. Sometimes, I take my food to go or I eat inside. The restaurant is small with about 3 tables inside. The restaurant makes good business though. read more

I came here today because I unexpectedly needed lunch. I ordered 1 vegetable egg roll and 4 chicken wings. It took about 10 minutes to get my food in a bag. I intended to stay so I should have asked for a tray. I did not. The wings were crispy and salty which is what I needed since I needed to drink plenty of water for my urology appointment at Queens Hospital Center. The vegetable egg roll was served hot as well. Me and my wife have been buying from here for years. Food and service has been good, for most part. But the last couple of deliveries, they have been cheating us with the quantity of meat. Our regular usually chicken broccoli with brown rice. Today, after receiving delivery, we opened our food boxes (2 same orders) - we find about 75% of the box is brown rice, and rest mostly is broccoli. For chicken, we counted, roughly 4 thin sliced chicken pieces. The ratio to rice and chicken/broccoli isn't fair. We will not be ordering from them again. read more

I wanted to try out the lunch special with my roommate today and I was in the mood for noodles and ordered the chicken chow mein. However, what I received was not anything close to that. I called and told them it was wrong and was yelled at on the phone, so I went back to get my order fixed. I showed them what they gave me and they tried to tell me that I was wrong and that chow mein is not noodles, and that I ordered incorrectly. Had I wanted noodles I should have ordered the Lo Mein. Which this is clearly false, from a lifetime of eating chow mein and a quick google search. In addition, the menu LITERALLY SAYS "Crispy noodle" However, they just did not want to be wrong or give me a refund. Good American Chinese food. I absolutely love ordering the spare rib tips with the pork fried rice. The taste is so good! It's sweet and pairs well with the rice. Siblings love the onion rings, rolls, and Pupu platter from here. Dumplings are good as well. I like that water is complementary when we order. read more

I have tried many Chinese take out restaurants in my life and I have gotta say this is the worst of the worst. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken with pork fried rice lunch special for about $6.00 after tax. How can you mess that up???? The chicken was skimpy and really small pieces. Questionable chicken meat. The rice was bland and dry. The hot and sour soup was so gooey because of all the cornstarch they use. Let me start off first by saying make sure you get a receipt for your order a printed receipt out of the cash register otherwise you will be charged more than the menu prices! This happened to me they didn't want to give me my dollar back it's the principle! The old lady behind the counter stated to me that prices are going up every day well that may be, but you should reflect that on to the menu! They should not take for granted that customers do not check prices. That really turned me off... The food is OK the portions are OK. Honestly a really solid local Chinese takeout place. I've been ordering from here for about two years- the food is tasty, delivery is so fast, and the prices are cheap. Spend $12 tonight on small lo mein, small chicken and broccoli, small white rice. It's a lot of food for a little money! Let us keep this in perspective: this is a review for a Chinese take-out restaurant. You are not paying for high-end cuisine, but large portions at a fair price. If that's the chief parameter we consider when reviewing Chinese take-out restaurants then Chef's Garden is successful. They have lunch and dinner combo specials that give you ample food at a reasonable cost - say $5-$7 dollars - and your standard array of Chinese take-out cuisine. Personally, the teriyaki chicken appetizer is good, though I am a sucker for food on a stick. Yes, I like corn-dogs a bunch. Is it that distinguishable from other places? Most likely not. Is there much more to elaborate on? Not really. Regardless, my experience was positive and I am sure yours would be also. ZERO STARS!!!! It seems that the fee good reviews are from 7-8 years ago. Worst Chinese food I have ever experienced and very poor customer service! The pork in the Fried Wontons tasted weird; it was kind of a "sour" taste. I called to inform them, and the woman kept saying they just made them last night and put them in the freezer. I kept insisting that there must have been something wrong with the pork used. She said they were too busy to bring me another order... which I did not want anyway!!!! Finally, she said she would give me credit for next time. Ummm... there will be no next time!!! Ok, moving along... when I was serving, I noticed that the white rice for the Chicken Chow Mein was missing! I called again to inform them. She said she will send it over! It's already been two hours... and no rice was delivered! Also ordered Boneless spare ribs lunch special. The "boneless spare ribs" look like tiny, minced pieces of pork sitting on top of a huge mound of yellow fried rice! I've never seen such tiny pieces of pork when I've ordered this dish anywhere else!!! The Hot & Sour Soup was terrible; we didn't eat it! The shrimp rolls were dripping with GREASE when taking a bite! The Chicken Chow Mein has a strange dark color (maybe too much soy sauce used??) and there was hardly any "chicken" in it, and I am questioning if it's actually chicken, because the texture was not like chicken!!! Oh! And surprise!!! I almost forgot to mention... When I looked at the receipt that was stapled to the menu, I saw that there was a $2.00 service charge added to my bill, and tax was calculated on the service charge as well! No mention of a service charge was printed on the menu nor was it mentioned when I placed the order! $34 down the drain! Oh well, Needless to say I will never be ordering from them again! I don't know why I've never reviewed this place sooner. Since I moved to this area around 2005, my family and I always get food from here. I judged chinese takeout by their General Tso Chicken and this one has won my heart ever since. It's so tasty and the sauce is perfect. The other thing I like is Shrimp with Garlic Sauce. read more

Pretty decent Chinese food in this area. This place is super close to my apt and will definitely be my go-to Chinese takeout restaurant. I came in and ordered takeout on a weekday afternoon. Food didn't take too long but they had only 1 other delivery order in front of mine so I was a little confused why they waited to cook mine until the delivery order was complete. They're very generous with their portions and it's worth the price (though still a bit steep). My 1 order was enough for 2 meals. read more

I ordered beef and broccoli with wonton soup, they use way too much soy sauce and I could see broccoli floating in white oil which is disgusting, who wants to deep their broccoli in plain oil. I'm not sure where these negative reviews are coming from. I've tried a lot of Chinese restaurants in my life, and this one is up there among the best, especially for such a cheap place. It's definitely the best in the area, better than King Yum, Annie Chan, New China Garden, etc. The place itself has no ambiance. It's just a hole-in-the-wall, average-looking Chinese take-out place, like many you find around the boroughs. You're not meant to sit down there with a date. But they know what they're doing when it comes to making the food. Everything is very well-made. Some Chinese places leave the battered dishes more soggy, with food that seems more like it was microwaved, but these people take their time making good food. Everything is crispy, with dense sauce, the way it should be. You could easily take this food out of the plastic containers and serve it on a fancy plate for twice the price, and no one would complain. The prices are great. Their General Tsao's (my standard Chinese choice) combination platter, which always leaves me painfully full, is (currently) $7.25 and comes with an egg roll and fried rice. I always substitute with brown rice, which they never have a problem doing, at no extra cost. Deliveries are free with a very low minimum ($8), and always arrive quickly. Orders over $10 also get a free drink, which I think is pretty cool. The people are very nice. My only slight complaint might be with communication, especially over the phone. They understand me, but they have some pretty heavy accents over there :) read more

I agree with all the positive reviews. I am so surprised by the negative reviews. Me and my family have been coming here for years and their quality of food is always consistent and delicious. I come to chefs garden often and am never disappointed when I try new things. I used to despise eggplant, but when my friend suggested I come here I changed my mind. My favorite dish now is the the lunch special with eggplant! Although there might not be any seating and the ambiance is lacking, I truly believe that this is a diamond in the rough. Whoever answers the phone is very rude. The food isnt even that good. I got the General Tso Chicken and they just drenched the hell out of the chicken in the sauce. The fried rice is bland and the egg rolls have little to no pork in it. The egg drop soup has weird dark specs in it and it honestly looks like dirt or pieces of a small bug. Super gross. Not going to order from here again. Try Empire instead. They're just as cheap, but cleaner and tastier. read more

I've been going here for years. It's a standard NYC Chinese take out restaurant. Lunch specials, combination plates, delivery, open during holidays and usually until 11pm. I've eaten beef/chicken/shrimp with broccoli, fried shrimp, fried chicken wings, bbq spare ribs, wonton soup, and much more I can't remember but it's all been decent and at a great NYC Chinese take out standard. They accept credit cards and give you a free soda after $10 purchase and have more perks the more you spend (over $45, etc.). A lot of people from the neighborhood come, especially people from the hospital I think. I've gotten their delivery too and it's been good but I just wish they were on Grubhub for those days I don't want to order on the phone. read more

The crab rangoons are a must with every order (especially when dipped in the sweet and sour sauce).
