This place has gotten better since I grew up here. Also, all the architecture has been preserved like before. So, it's nice to see the familiar years later. The staff is wonderful and always helpful. The first floor has a great layout for circulation as well as media and magazines in the back with a separate large Children's section away from the adults. Downstairs is Young Adult, Internet computers, Meeting rooms, Reference section, and Non-fiction area. Bathroom on both floors makes it very convenient compared to other neighboring Merrimack Valley libraries. Also, wide open areas with tables for group studies or just research. Plus, you can reserve your passes for museums as well. There are so many resources other than books available here! See photo attached(includes a bike tool kit, a cassette converter, a digital projector and much more. I also just signed up to use a $10 pass for the Boston Aquarium. There's also 2 shelves of books near the service counter that are available for purchase at $0.50/book. I was surprised as I was perusing the books and large movie collection at how rude guests are in the library. I was always taught to be quiet in the library, but there were people having loud conversations and I heard a cell phone go off. read more

Being a R&D electrical engineering technician things can be very time consuming and listening to audiobooks really helps time fly by. This was out favorite library- we havent been since Covid began- and went today for our first time. My 2 year old and I checked in, hand sanitized (again) and I put on her mask (which only lasted a few minutes). We were the only people there. We read a few books sitting over at the window and put them in the used bins. I was sitting reading our last book, being extremely proud of how my tired toddler was behaving and sitting through her books and putting them away- when a librarian came over and basically shamed me for my child not having a mask, telling us we needed to leave soon (even though I was keeping track of time and had discussed the mask and time limit with the woman when we checked in) and frankly completely ruined our nice little reading time. I'm about as liberal and cautious as they come, so being shamed for my child "running all over the place without a mask spreading germs" and not "doing what's best for the world" was a huge slap in the face. I will not be coming back to this location anytime soon. That woman was extremely rude and presumptuous and made it seem like they wanted no one in the library at all- because I wasnt keeping it safe enough for all the other imaginary patrons. Lady, you were so rude and patronizing. If you want no one there so you dont have to be at risk, you got it, because my toddler just behaved SO WELL and I was so proud, and you obviously have zero grasp on what it means to be/have a toddler. Leaving our 'nice library afternoon' feeling angry and insulted. read more

When I was young and lived in a suburb of New York, I remember going to the local library every Saturday. The brick building was about the size of a 30x40-foot split entry house but through an eight-year-old's eyes, the structure looked like a mansion. Mrs. Kelder, the librarian, was a very warm and helpful person, and I still have such fond memories of my experiences. I have no idea what that library looks like today or whether it's still there, but I am lucky that my town has everything I'd ever want in a library: a huge selection of magazines, travel books, job searching material, self-help books, banks of computers, "silent" areas, private meeting rooms, museum passes, CDs and DVDs, programs for children and adults (including language and computer lessons), comfy chairs, and most of all, knowledgeable and friendly librarians. Whether due to the current economic situation or just because people enjoy the comfortable, peaceful ambience, the place is always hopping and the parking lot is always packed. I must confess that when we lost electricity for five days, I spent hours here: It was warm, helped me deal with email-withdrawal, and enabled me to have the luxury of using real electricity and not candles as I browsed a myriad of magazines. As a side note, a background designer for The Simpsons is a Chelmsford native, and the town hall in the show is based on the Chelmsford Public Library (prior to the recent reconstruction). For the record, the library is thus far the only place I've rated five stars. It deserves five stars and more. read more

Great library but people need too understand the quiet room means QUIET!!!! Turn off your cell phones and take your conversations upstairs!!! It's not fun trying too study with all the noise it's pretty annoying considering I don't have a lot of free time to waste. Jan 30,2015 Once again silent room is not silent! People on cell phones- others standing at the foot of the staircase having a ten minute conversation really?? What gives - Actually no common sense! People are just ignorant! April 21, 2016. If you're looking for a quiet place to read or study, you will be disappointed. People just hang out downstairs talking on their phone, chatting with the front desk staff...study rooms are not quiet either. I believe some people use the rooms to be on their phones, so you can hear everything. If you need a quiet place, try Billerica Public Library. read more
