Devonport is one of the nicest areas in Auckland. It's quaint, funky and very good-looking. Being on a peninsular, there are loads of great spots to swim at, Cheltenham Beach is one of them. The scene for many a tv commercial and those old Green Party billboards with the little girl standing on the jetty, it's undoubtedly very picturesque.
With North Head at one end, white sand, and an uninterrupted view of Rangitoto Island, it's no wonder it;s so popular.
The swimming is very safe and there is a pontoon in the water which is super fun to lie on and jump off. There are dairies and great Fish and Chip shops just a stroll away, and many lovely restaurants on the main road.
