Growden Memorial Park is a nice place to catch an Alaska Goldpanners ballgame. Dirt parking lot, old building, wooden billboards, aluminum bleachers with no backrest, 6 or 7 Porta-Potty's as the only restrooms, chain-link fencing, things that are missing nowadays from most modern parks are what make Growden Park unique. But, Growden still holds that baseball magic, something a lot of modern places just can't do. The baseball tradition continues here, and summer games are played under the Alaska sun, no need for artificial lighting. The season is about two months long here, June and July, with most Goldpanners games here nightly at 7, with the occasional 3pm game. There is a lot of interesting history regarding the Goldpanners team, which is available on their website. The Goldpanners are a Collegiate Summer Baseball team, and have been playing at Growden since 1960! 2019 marks the Goldpanners 60th season. There have actually been quite a few legends to come through and play as Goldpanners, including Tom Seaver, legendary Dodger player and broadcaster Rick Monday, Barry Bonds, Bob AND Bret Boone, Cleveland Indians coach and former World Series Boston Red Sox coach Terry Francona, Harold Reynolds, Jason Giambi, Dave Winfield, and more! There is a "beer garden" area, with beer provided by local brewery HooDoo Brewing Company. There is a concession area, with basic snacks, canned sodas, hot pretzels, hot dogs. There is also a Goldpanners merch Area, where you can get your hats or jerseys, etc. Taking a look at the Goldpanners website, their GM John Lohrke is very passionate about baseball, and is committed to this team and providing a quality experience and product to the fans. The fan experience, while, by today's standards, would be quite "basic," I had a good time and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the simplicity of the whole experience, and the main focus being the baseball. There was no WiFi or celebrity chef takeovers, or giant LED 4K screen, or even an ear shattering sound system. There was just nice, quality, fun, old school home-town baseball. The announcer was great, too, and took some funny liberties you wouldn't find in a more "professional" atmosphere. All family friendly of course. A nice touch, mini-"library" pencils were available to keep score on the handout roster, which has a scoresheet on back. I liked keeping score today, something I haven't done in awhile. I'd come again for sure. A great inexpensive place to bring the family. Solid players. Tickets for adults 18-64 are $7, kids 6-17, as well as 65+ are $5. Active Military are $5 as well, and UAF Students are $5. Kids 6 and under are FREE. I paid with cash, not sure of the credit card situation. I'd recommend bringing a pad or sweater or something to sit on to cushion the aluminum bleachers. It is nice to know there is some pure baseball out there, and a great way to spend an evening in Fairbanks, Alaska.

You can tell how much they love their dogs, and how much their dogs love them. It felt like a truly authentic local experience instead of a mass-produced tourist trap. The landscape we sledded through was all gorgeous permafrost, boreal forest, and frozen river - it was magical. It was amazing to be able to stand on the sled runners in the back, in addition to just sitting in the sled. We also spent some time in the kennel yard playing and taking photos of all the beautiful dogs, who all had such distinct personalities! Would highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling to Fairbanks -- totally worth it.

We could not forget the amazing moments of viewing the aurora light in their heated tent, Husky dog sledding tour, ice fishing, wood carving, snow shoeing and more... And you get an opportunity to learn how the couple built their big log cabin with their own hands without any heavy equipment! The meals they prepared for us are just out of the world, from home made icecream, berries and the fish they caught. We came from San Francisco with no snow year round, and we were doing very well and enjoyed every moment spent here at their homestead. I highly recommend them, and can say wholeheartedly that their host made our Alaska trip PERFECT, and it is such a fond memory for years to come. Thank you Jenna and David! Our musher was fantastic, sharing curious anecdotes about the dogs throughout the ride. We stopped at the 1-mile mark for some stunning photos, and at the end, we got to pet and cuddle the dogs, it was amazing! To top it off, they welcomed us back with hot coffee and freshly baked cookies. I felt so well taken care of by the staff. Highly recommended! Muzzy's dog sled is one of the best and exciting trips my wife and I ever had (we had other dog…read moresled tour before). We mushed through more than 100 miles of scenic Alaskan wildness in five days. Our five day dog mushing trip is definitely the experience of a lifetime. I recommend Muzzy's based three reasons: the owners, the dogs, and the route. Eric, our guide, is an amazing instructor and has made us feel like family. He is the main reason that we chose Muzzy's over other options. Right from the start when we spoke to Eric over the phone, he was very patient to address all our concerns. During our trip, he had also proven to be also very knowledgeable, instrumental, and down-to-earth. Jan, Eric's wife, is also an amazing host. If you want to learn how to shoot aurora pictures along the way, you should get a photography class from Jan beforehand. Jan offers photography classes and has won numerous prizes with her pictures. Muzzy's dogs are very friendly, gentle, and smart. Even though my wife and I had dogs before, our previous dogs were not as gentle as Muzzy's dogs. Every morning and evening, my wife and I helped to prepare food and feed the dogs. We spent more than six hours every day with the dogs and quickly had grown to love them so much by the end of tour that it was difficult to say good bye. The scenery along the route was phenomenal. During the trip, we camped overnight on a frozen pond, stayed in two rustic cabins, traversed on ice covered rivers, and even traveled to do grocery shopping at local stores with our dog teams. It was funny to see how other tourists keep taking pictures of us at those local stores. Suggestions: * Listen to Eric's instructions carefully in the beginning and ask questions. You do not want to run yourself and your dog team into ditches * If you are not an outdoorsy person, you probably want to tell Eric that you want to stay in a cabin instead of a camp. Camping overnight over a frozen pond was initially a shock to us who were not used to camping. However, it then became the most memorable experience and we learned to love it.

Eric was an awesome instructor, he had me harnessing and handling the dogs quickly. I am a huge "dog person" so getting to interact so closely with the dogs was a treat. Eric got us bundled up in their outer gear (wear polypropylene or wool base layer and a warm -not cotton- midlayer/my fleece "sweats" worked great). While on the sled Eric explained the techniques of mushing. After an hour or so he let both of us try our hands at driving the sled. AMAZING! Muzzy's is a family run business, you truly get individual attention and care, unlike some of the big sled dog places that herd you in and out. We felt like family! We will be coming back to Fairbanks and Muzzy's!
