All have been very good. lol After having lived in a more urban area with more restaurants, I found it challenging to find THE takeout Chinese spot for us. That was until we tried Cheng's! I use the online ordering system to place my order and I like how it gives the option to pay at the counter instead of entering a credit card. I ordered the wonton soup, chicken pad Thai, beef fried rice, and beef with broccoli. The wonton soup was good and if you mix rice into the wonton broth it makes for good porridge. Best Chinese food within 50 miles of Winchester! Every dish is fresh, delicious and the best version of the iconic dishes. My favorite is the Thai Red Curry (you choose the protein) with lots of tender- crisp veggies. My mother and brother love the sweet and sour chicken, my husband: General Tso's chicken. Their wonton soup is loaded with wontons and their hot and sour soup is always fresh and the best tasting version anywhere. The staff are always polite and friendly. Good news, eastern Frederick County! We now have another fantastic restaurant addition to Gateway Plaza. This one is an Asian fusion restaurant called Cheng's featuring Chinese, Thai and Korean dishes. There are about 6 tables, so you can dine-in and they have a busy takeout and delivery service. It is a bright and clean place with fast, friendly service. The food was not heavily salted, so it is perfect for those of you on salt restrictions. The potstickers (pan-fried dumplings or Gyoza) were authentic, with the thin dough, rather than those thick-doughy ones you find at many other Chinese restaurants. The Beef Chow Fun (Drunken Noodles on the menu) was perfect, with a generous amount of tender, sliced beef. If you want it spicy, you will need to request it that way, because this was definitely Chow Fun and not what most people think of when they order Drunken Noodles. From a very picky eater. I have only been here twice but I order a lot of food to get an idea of what to expect. I gauge restaurants based on three food items, beer battered onion rings, general's chicken and pepper steak. I did not order any onion rings from Cheng's but I did order pepper steak. It is some of the best pepper steak I have ever had. I ordered general's chicken today and it was really good. The beef if so tender and flavorful. I also ordered the Szechwan shrimp. The shrimp is not battered but has a coating on it and oh my goodness, so tasty. If you like the pepper steak, Szechwan shrimp or general's chicken, give it a try. My new favorite pick me up whenever I felt homesick. The staff is extremely friendly and very fast! My favorite is the hot and sour soup. I can drink a large bowl in a sitting... so freakn good. I also like their rice noodle options, sometimes there is more noodle than meat or vegetable but I end up dipping my excess noodle in the hot and sour soup (hehe). Their mapo tofu is also delicious. Opening up this year and finally getting to order some food, we have eaten now 4 times, with one pickup and 3 deliveries. The restaurant is the cleanest and newest in the area. Serving expectable Chino- American dishes with all the usual suspects. Everything we have eaten was well prepared and tasty. It appears to share owners with Eastern's, so the food and recipes are very similar in taste and preparation. The same comments on spice levels apply here; if you like spicy food, ask them to amp up the peppers or ask for some hot pepper oil. Egg rolls were pretty good, a little oily, but it's a new fryer and I think they're still getting it burned in and figuring out the kinks. Our standard dishes (kung pao chicken and cashew chicken) were decent enough, although the kung pao is very bland unless you ask for spicy or get additional peppers. A squirt of sriracha usually fixes it. Hot and sour soup was pretty decent for strip mall Chinese, not perfect but good enough. Delivery, take out and eat in are available, but it's a small restaurant, so big parties will be an issue. They're good about packing stuff well, so if you have more than 2 or 3 people, get it to go and take it home; it'll still be acceptably warm when you get it home.
