Food: 5/10 Atmosphere: takeout Service: good fast pickup Tips: parking limited $56 for pork fried rice, orange chicken and mapo tofu?!!! Are you kidding?? I was seriously expecting some kind of gourmet Chinese food when the orange chicken was almost $22 for takeout. However, it was nothing fancy and honestly I have had so many better Chinese food around this area. Fried rice was just salty, some of the rice was very hard, did not seem fresh. Pork fried rice barely had any pork. Mapo tofu tasted good, had good consistency, but the tofu to sauce ratio was not great. Overall, I would not be going back here and they really need to adjust their prices..
If we had just gone here the first time it would have been our second favorite szechuan place in the states. The first time we went here was one of the best szechuan dishes we ever had while the second was pretty forgettable. One of the staff barly talked to us while the other was super attentive with great recommendations. I think the first one was the tofu dry pot which was huge, had great szechuan rich broth and savory tofu. Even with my wife and I starving it still filled us up and and we needed a to go container. The second we got was the general tso Seiten. With it being recommended by the staff and menu i hoped it was going to be better but I was a bit disappointed. It was mostly breading with a little bit of seitan I'm the center that didn't have much texture or flavor. That being said, the first dish was so good that I still recommend this place.

Every Chinese restaurant has green beans but these were weirdly some of the best I've had, they use fermented mustard to season it? Never heard of that before but it was amazing Definitely need to come back and try out the rest of their extensive menu but highly recommend to anyone in Philly who wants authentic Chinese food
Typical and as expected, server was constantly refilling water and tea. Came highly recommended and food had good flavors with right amount of heat. Will likely return if in the area.

I've brought a few friends from that region in China, and they were genuinely impressed and excited by how true the taste is to home. The prices are very reasonable, and finding such authentic Northeastern Chinese food in Philly was a real surprise!!! Highly recommended!!
Great hole in the wall Chinese food! There were a lot of amazing pork dishes to choose from, and I went with pork buns and an eggplant dish. Service was quick and friendly, and they were wonderfully accommodating. The ambiance was very much a hole in the wall place, but it was fine and cozy.
Su Xing House is an outstanding Chinese vegetarian restaurant. Their dining room is classy, paneled with Chinese prints, and handled our large party without issue. Regardless of your party size, be patient, as their kitchen isn't the fastest. Their hot and sour soup is a stand out, with a healthy kick. Last I was here, I had their Ebony & Ivory, a very mushroom-y dish. If you like shrooms (heh), you'll be good to go here. I've been back many many times since I first came here in 2008. I've also ordered takeout - they have lunch specials - and am typically satisfied. Credit accepted.
Fantastic vegetarian Chinese place. They make the dishes so delicious and authentic that you most likely would not be able to notice it's vegetarian. The dan dan noodles were really rich in flavor and quite spicy. Our favorite dish was the eggplant tofu, the garlic sauce was delicious and went perfect over rice. Definitely check out this place if you're in the area!
Had dinner here on a Monday - I liked the food and would come back, but wish I could give Su Xing 3.5 stars instead. The extra half star is for being an all-vegetarian restaurant which are very hard to find and I love supporting them. The food was good but there were some misses. In order of top choices: 1) Sesame Seitan - this was delicious, the sauce was very flavorful, and I liked the chewy texture of the seitan. I would get this again! Could have used more spice. 2) Cream Cheese Wontons - can't go wrong with fried cheese, but I wish the filling had more punchy flavor rather than just creamy melty cheese. 3) Potato Croquettes - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served super hot. Enjoyed these but again wish there was more FLAVOR. 4) Pan Fried Dumplings - these were fine and reminded me of something my childhood Chinese friend used to make. Pretty standard 5) Spring Rolls - not bad but the filling lacked a bit of substance and flavor. 6) Scallion Pancakes - would not get these again. Verrry tough to chew, not flaky at ALL, and had 0 actual scallion flavor. Love the complimentary jasmine tea that the server keeps refilling throughout the meal. Ambiance was nice and service was pretty standard / unfussy, but wish the food had more flavor. I was craving more spice and flavor! We liked Nom Wah's version of some of these dishes more! I'll be back to try some other dishes just because I appreciate the plethora of vegetarian options. Lunch combo also sounded like a great deal.

Service was really fast. The menu had a lot of authentic and delicious items and I left feeling full, but not filled with a ton of oil in my guts. nice interior, very authentic, well lit, and easy to access as well. I'm definitely be back!

Su Xing Restaurant (1508 Sansom St., Philly) is no more. They're under new management, rebranded as Chengdu, and no longer full Sichuan vegan. Now there's a limited vegan menu with a bunch of regular Chinese food. I got the vegan fish; it was fried hard, burned, and doused in some sugary, diabetic sauce with peas & carrots; it was straight trash. The vegan veggie rice was just ok. Su Xing was a regular on my frequent visits to Philly, but I won't be coming here again and neither will I refer this place. Ever!
note: this restaurant is now called Meet Harbin! stopped by on a whim for dinner on monday and was quickly seated. great for a quick bite, the food came out fast, and we were in and out in less than an hour which was exactly what we needed. we ordered the chili oil pork dumplings, the beef noodle soup with tomato, and the beef lo mein. i really enjoyed the chili oil pork dumplings, and ended up having to box most of my beef noodle soup. the beef noodle soup was warm and comforting and a really great sick food. i do wish the tomato flavor was heavier, but that might be a style choice. the portion sizes were all quite generous and could easily be stretched to 2 meals. restaurant is casual but surprisingly large. there was a good amount of seating, but it wasn't very busy so everyone was seated in the primary room. good bite for chinese food outside of chinatown. read more
I stopped by this authentic cozy gem of Sansom Street and ordered my favorite: the Dry Chili Pepper Tofu. This time, I had the pleasure placing my to go order with Evie (E-V-I-E). This was my first time meeting her, but it felt like I have known her for some time. She recommended something for me to try next time -- the "Fresh EarthV Trio (V)" a popular classic Northeastern dish. I'm definitely adding that to my list. What keeps me coming back? It's the consistency -- the service, cost, portion, and most importantly, the flavor. After my shift at work, I genuinely look forward to that first bite of my Dry Chili Pepper Tofu. I loooove this place! Try to catch them on the weekday or Saturday before 3pm for the lunch specials. All lunch specials come with a Soup, Side Dishes, and Rice for a great price! I had the General Tso Seitan with miso soup, seaweed, and brown rice. I nearly ate every sesame seed off of my plate because it was so delicious! And OhEmGee, my teacup stayed filled as if it was a scene from Harry Potter, every time I looked up my cup was being refilled with Jasmine tea. Ugh, I can't wait until my next visit to Philly so I can visit Su Xing again. read more
This is my third time coming here. I'm usually seated in the back. Always the same waiter. I'll start by saying she's on point. Dishes cleared and water and tea refilled. I should've went for bottled water. The pitcher of water coming around seemed to get warmer the longer we stayed. We had several entrees. I neglected to take a picture of the Mongolian tofu and the General Tsos Seitan. Tofu is not my thing. Reminds me of egg foo young consistency. But the seitan in the General Tso Sauce is a must every time. The entrees was edamame ( it was okay), the potato latkes I believe they were. Was great. The little chicken nugget things maybe croquettes. Can't remember the name. They taste like off brand chicken nuggets. Not very good and they come with ketchup. Only reason this place doesn't get the 5 star is the Bathrooms are atrocious every time I've been there. Food this good needs to have an award winning performance all around the board. And the waitress hovered over us at the end. Idk if it's just a language/ culture difference type thing. She does her job just needs a little help in hospitality. Vegetarian Chinese food restaurant located in Philly Penn Center. With all of the delicious gluttonous places to eat at all around Philly; it's nice to have a spot to go to that's just veggies! We ordered the chow mei fun noodles -Singapore style. Tasted pretty good! Reminded me of curried angel hair pasta with veggies. My daughter thought it was kinda dry. If you are looking for a wide variety of Vegan Asian food...this the place to go. Lunch specials are ~$13 and you get soup, an entree and appetizer. I tried Hot and sour soup, fried rice, Kung pao tofu and spring roll . Everything was very nice. Complimentary hot tea was a hit. Service was good and the server was very attentive. After receiving the menu, I realized this was vegetarian Chinese cuisine . I am always open to new foods. First the jasmine green tea was a great fresh flavor. The waiter hussled and never let my tea or water go empty. The food was fresh with great flavor . I ordered hot and sour soup and cream cheese wontons for starters . Honestly, there was not any missing flavor in these versions. The chow mein Singapore style had vegetables and a curry powder creating an amazing dish ! I went to Su Xing House by accident (I had confused it with another place), but it turned out to be a great mistake---this is a wonderful spot in central Philadelphia. For appetizers we got the steamed vegetable dumplings ($6.25) which were fresh and nicely done; they tasted home-made and not just reheated from frozen. The steamed vegetable bun ($5.75) was also great with a pillowy-soft rice/wheat shell and savory innards. For mains, we loved the kale and dried tofu with spicy red pepper ($13.50), which is a colorful, light, fresh and addictive stir-fry. The crispy tofu and dried bamboo shoot ($17) was deeply savory with a nice array of textures, from the crunchy bamboo to the crisp-then-soft tofu. The service is friendly and attentive. Pro-tip: skip the "popular dishes" like the General Tso's Seitan and Sesame Seitan. If you go with basic dishes like those, you will not be impressed; try something new. Su Xing offers variety and has unusual creativity with custom dishes you won't see elsewhere. The chef has a deft touch and great vision. I'll be back the next time I'm in Philadelphia. read more

Great vegetarian food, and their lunch specials are affordable. Big servings for lunch specials, which include a soup and a dish with rice and a side. My go-to is the crunchy sesame seitan with side of mushrooms. I wouldn't mind missing the lotus and peanut soup; it just wasn't that flavorful. But overall, the lunch special is filling, the seitan wonderfully fried and not at all greasy. The price is also a deal, especially considering center city. read more

Su xing is a fully vegetarian Chinese food restaurant in center city. I've been a few times and had decent food each time and was looking forward to bringing a few friends there. Sadly Su Xing missed the mark this time. We were placed in a part of the dining area which had a broken AC and it was HOT. We were all sweating throughout the meal. In addition the food took forever to come and our waiter was not friendly. Any question we asked we received brusque responses too. Some of our favorite dishes of the night were vegetable heaven and triple shredded. It was nice that most dishes come with rice and you have your choice of brown or white rice. Overall a solid 3 star experience. I am not writing them off but will have high expectations next time to see if I can give a better rating for my next trip. Things to know: -good lunch specials -hours: Friday to Saturday 11am to 10:30pm; Tuesday to Thursday 11am to 10pm; closed Mondays -street parking is a bit tricky but there is a garage across the street -you can make reservations online -the bill comes with orange slices and fortune cookies which was nice -ask to be seated in the main dining area (especially during hot weather months) read more

THIS is what I call a happy meal. My friends and I came here and ate family style. We got three apps, sesame cold noodles, scallion pancakes, and steamed dumplings. They give you bottomless jasmine green tea and it's so so good and the perfect temperature to drink immediately. The three entrees we got were sesame broccoli, general tso's tofu and golden feather knish. Everything was to die for. This is not a joke. The consensus is that the cold sesame noodles are the best thing in the world, we'd all sell our first born for endless cold sesame noodles. Our favorite entree was the golden feather knish, this dish could end marriages. Music is a good volume, not crazy loud but it creates a good atmosphere. So much love for this place--we WILL be back!! read more
