Honestly i'm surprised this place has not gotten a lot of reviews. So far this is one of the best chinese places in Morganton North Carolina. The food was good like honestly one are the best chinese places i've been to And I can't say that about every chinese place i've been to. The chicken with garlic sauce was awesome. Really disappointed with our experience at Chen's Garden. Sat in store. I ordered the sesame chicken and the sauce was thick, gross, and didn't taste anything like sesame chicken is supposed to taste. The lo mein noodles were cold while the chicken was hot, like the meal had just been thrown together without care. The bathrooms were disgusting, and seeing that their sanitation score was only a 91 honestly made the whole place feel even less sanitary. When we politely brought up the food issues and asked if it could be remade, staff made a big fuss about it instead of trying to fix the situation. After all that, they only refunded us $2 for the entire mess. Definitely not worth the money or the frustration. read more

Went here on a lunch break during work. Decent meal, and can't beat the lunch special for $6.25. Broccoli could've been steamed a little better since it was stiff and I could barely cut it apart with the plastic knife in the restaurant. No issues with the rice or chicken though. Big ups for Chen's! I was looking for Chinese take-out in the area and decided to try something new. I didn't even know that this restaurant existed within the shopping mall off exit 105. Back in the days, I believe this used to be the Jersey Mike's? I called in to place my order and they were so kind. When I arrived it was a brother and sister duo working the front -- answering the telephone and helping customers check out like PROS. The best customer service that I've ever received at a mom and pops take out restaurant. These young folks are going to go far in life. Overall, food was good and definitely worth a try. I got the bbq pork lo mien, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, and egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was my favorite out of all the dishes. read more

It's in a strip mall next to a grocery store. It's set up mostly for take-out with a few basic tables and chairs. It's counter service only. The service was quick and efficient. The food was basic. I got chicken and vegetables. The sauce was overly thick and there wasn't much chicken. The chicken seemed to be breaded slightly and was soft and rubbery. It came with pork fried rice, which was also very basic. Small bits of pork, very little vegetables in the rice, and the rice was oily. So, I purposely ordered several items so we could really get an idea of what they have to offer. We came home with: crab Rangoon, spring rolls, egg rolls, pork fried rice, shrimp lo mein, won ton soup, and sweet and sour chicken. The best item out of it all was their pork fried rice. Good amount of veggies and pork and the rice, overall, was flavorful. The rolls (both variations) and the Rangoon were bland, basic, and greasy. The sweet and sour chicken and shrimp lo mein were run of the mill basic versions that you could get at any Chinese joint. So there's really nothing to brag about or set them apart. Side note: you don't even get a fortune cookie. Lol. Definitely won't be returning. But! You do get a lot of food for the price. So basic but plentiful...thats a plus right?? read more

The food was great but the woman up front is sour. The first time I tried placing a to go order she was so rude I decided to get something from Foodlion instead. The second time I asked my lovely girlfriend to call and place the order and She did with success and the food was great. the third time however was the final straw. My girlfriend called and placed the order with me next to her. It was around 7 pm. We waited about 20 minutes and went to pick up our order and it was not there. They didn't have it in their system is what she said. "Sorry". Enjoy your take out Burke county this place doesn't deserve your business. I had been to this restaurant once before. It was very good food. However, this evening I called and ordered over the phone. The phone number I called was correct. I spoke with a a lady. She told me it would be ready in 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I drove 20 minutes to the restaurant. I waited in a line of other customers. The lady at the register continuously ignored the customers in front of her to take nonstop phone orders. When I finally made it to the front of the line, the lady behind the counter told me she did not have my order or a phone number to match that order. This has to be impossible because I looked back on my call log and saw that I had dialed the correct number. I think she was doing too many tasks at once and messed up and did not put my order in for the cooks. So my boyfriend and I were without dinner. I will not be recommending Chen's Garden. read more

I'm going to go ahead and give them a 4, since we usually love their food. But they just reopened from the pandemic and it was a disaster. They basically took their phones off the hook and wouldn't answer for 45 min so I decided to still drive up and place an order. They tried to adapt to the pandemic I guess, and had stickers for social distancing and had the order window sealed up. I was third in line outside the door and stood there for 30 min. For some reason, every person that got up to the counter to order stood there for 10-15 min to place an order. I never got in the door, so no idea what would take so long. People were getting crammed inside, so all social distancing was pretty much out the window. I was finally the next person to go inside when I realized I had been there for 30 min. By my math, that means it would have been almost another 30 before I actually ordered, them another 20-30 before I got food. No thanks. I left and did curbside from Chick-fil-A and had food in 5 min. Now, outside of that disaster, I love the Moo Shoo Pork. Egg rolls are decent, as is the Crab Rangoon. Kids like the sweet and sour chicken and my wife likes the chicken lo mein. We'll eat here again, as we don't have any better choices in the local area, and it's usually pretty good and pretty quick. But MAN, was re-opening day a disaster. I'd steer clear until they figure it out and can keep up with demand in this new environment. read more
