We searched all the listed B&B and hotels in the area and everything was booked. However, in the back of one of the B&B books from the area was the name of B&B De Potyze, just the name and address, no description. We drove over to see about a vacancy, and as we approached we thought there would be no way they have a vacancy. It was beautiful. A quaint, ivy-covered farm house surrounded by a peaceful garden, in the middle of a field. They did have an opening, and this is a great little secret near Ypres (Ieper), Belgium. The owner was a joy to talk with, and always had a fresh squeezed juice or a beer on offer. It was fantastic. We will definitely be back. Next time we will make a reservation. We were very fortunate to find a vacancy. This is a small, two-room B&B, perfectly appointed. The only downside was the heat in Belgium while we were there and the B&B doesn't have air (like everywhere else in Ypres). Yet, we did enjoy a wonderful electric storm one evening. This B&B sits right on the location of the stalled English-German lines of WWI.

This is pretty much your standard Ibis hotel, but one which is very centrally located in St Omer,…read morejust 30 minutes' drive from Calais. Two minutes' walk one way brings you to the Cathedral quarter, and two minutes the other way brings you to the main square, with its bars, restuarants and Post Office. It's very popular with people taking the ferry or shuttle to/from the UK. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are what you'd expect - clean, adequately comfortable and en-suite, and serviced daily, though the decor is a little tired. A bonus is the small parking area (EUR7 per day) behind the hotel, some of which is under cover, and is secure at night as they lock the door to the street - excellent for motorbikes. The nearby square has plenty of parking too. There's one disabled parking space, and two accessible rooms. Catering is pretty basic - the breakfasts are fine for EUR7 a day (though the dining area gets busy if they are full), but there are plenty of better bars and restuarants for lunch and dinner. (I can't imagine why you'd eat in an Ibis if you are in the middle of a French town!).

It's located right on a trench line & the grounds has one of the original craters from the mines used in the Messin Battle. Breakfast is of a continental type, no full English but always plenty to have. Evening meal is provided if required in the bar/restaurant setting with a limited menu but well cooked & not to expensive. Plenty of parking. Bike rack if you have cycles & free Wi-Fi. Actually, it is probably best described as an apartment hotel because the rooms, even though they are a single room with a bathroom, provide you with everything that you need, including plates. They didn't have a huge number of breakfast options, though it is cheaper than a number of other places that I have been to (I wasn't really in the mood for toast or bread rolls, though I do realise that this is what the French generally have). Oh, and the elevator can be a bit funny at times and seems to be a little old (and quite small, you can really only fit one person and their bags in it at a time). Oh, and there isn't much around the area as well - the nears bars are about a five minute walk. Still, it was a nice hotel and the staff were reasonably friendly.
