Futureworks offers short, fast-track and diploma courses as well as degree equivalent qualifications in a range of disciplines and technologies. The rates aren't the cheapest in town (you can get short courses in some of the same software and technologies cheaper at The Manchester College) but I think they're fairly priced and are worth the money. I've been here for one of their short editing courses and thought it was great. The staff were really attentive and didn't just shout out instructions as they do in some other training centres. They mixed lecturing and demonstration with hands-on practice and one to one discussions, which I found useful as I felt I was falling behind but was a bit embarrassed to ask for help. The centre itself is easy to find (just at the end of Oxford Road before the Central Library) and has state of the art facilties and equipment. The whole place is very shiney and modern and is so covered in buttons and gadgets it feels a bit like you're in the future...perhaps thats why the call it Futureworks....

Since leaving school, I've developed a massive level of respect for teachers. I think as a child you can overlook the stress that your behaviour can put on them, magnify that by 30 in each class, and you're looking at one stressed teacher. I was always personally fairly well behaved - my mum was a teacher, so I took it a little easy on them - but some of my class mates, blimey! The teaching staff were great and did fantastically well not to lose their temper with some of the antics that went on! The school itself underwent many makeovers during my time, and I still live just a stones throw away so can see changes still happening - in a positive way though. A safe, responsible environment to send your adolescents to!

The school is small - in many ways like a village school - and therefore all the children know each other. Positive behaviour and attitude are encouraged by all staff. When new children start in reception, they are put under the guidance of their own year 6 buddy. This helps the new kids settle in, and helps the older ones to develop even more responsibility. All in all, a superb school.

The teachers and staff are friendly and it does quite well in the league tables - if you are interested in that type of thing. It has also extended it's working day, offering many after school activities - such as netball, football, rounders, band, multi-games to name a few. There is even an aerobics lesson available before school on one day of the week. It has a school band and offers music lesson, indeed this is one of it's strengths, with the school doing well in local competitions. There is also a Playgroup which is open on the school grounds, which offers before and after school care. By the way, school dinners are healthy and taste great, a credit to the canteen staff. The only drawback is parking is only available on side streets and it can become congested - although the school does encourage children to walk to school.

As with all schools bullying does take place here, although it is always dealt with appropriately and parents and staff have good relationships to ensure that the children at this school are happy. The children at this school all seem to be happy and progress well.
