Unfortunate the fish monger who has been at the chester farmers market these past years is no longer . they retired? the new fish monger from Rhode Island does not state the name of the fish on the package nor the price nor the weight. Chester is one of my top three favorite towns in the entire state of Connecticut. It's quaint, classy, and cozy. We always come out to Park Tavern for our anniversary, so we happened across the farmers market on our last trip through. The selection was excellent. We tried local preserves, cheeses, spices, and perused a ton of beautiful produce. The not to miss item however was the simply outstanding bread from Wave Hill Farms. We opted for a quarter loaf of the bule which was a whole grain fermented sourdough and made the mistake of not trying it before we were halfway home. Man this bread is amazing!!! We had it with soup one day, with roasted garlic and cheese the next, and then i made breakfast sandwiches with it the last day. The problem is, now that I know this bread exists, I simply cant live without it! I ended up special ordering a whole loaf and am going to drive 3 hours to get it just so I can freeze it and have it for later. Hopefully when the winter farmers market starts back up, wave hill will be there, because then so will I. Absolutely phenomenal! read more

A small town that closes down the main road, vendors of all sorts of foods, fresh veg & fruit vendors, fresh flower vendors and the most divine brick oven portable pizza maker this side of Roma. Strolling this street and looking at the vendors goods and peeking into the delightful stores along the street. Easy free parking just steps from the downtown market area. Wonderful walking market, often has live music. There's breakfast pizza, coffee, a little brewery, and lots of beautiful local produce.

The Chester Market has quickly become a staple every Sunday for my family. Every week we buy just enough strawberries, blueberries, mushrooms, bread, flavorful pestos and spreads to make us to the next week. The mini brick oven pizza set up they have every week is a quick, cheap, and incredibly fresh and flavorful lunch option that I highly recommend. The live music is, I think, very under rated. Last week there was a woman and her son, and then later another woman joined to sing and they were all extremely talented. I love the lemonade stand but unfortunately they only have one poor girl working there doing all the slicing, squeezing, pouring etc. and the line very quickly turns into something you can be standing in the sun on the asphalt for 20 minutes waiting in. My only criticism is, and it's not even really that because it's no one at this market's responsibility. But I'd love to see them set up some sort of dog cooling station, water bowls or whatever, because the amount of idiots that bring their dogs here and I watch the poor things dancing around because the pads of their poor feet are painfully broiling on the asphalt and they're just generally overheating is insane. Last week I took my foot out of my sandal and touched it to the pavement for just a moment to see, and it was BRUTAL. read more
