My family have been going to this place many years for our dental services. Overall our experience was good, the place is very clean, staff are friendly and what we appreciated the most is the convenience service if offers from adult to pediatrics dental practices. They even extended the operation hour to later evening to accomodate people who work during the day . But I have noticed the billing and charging of our insurance seems always been a hiccup. Many years we have been receiving medical billing statement mailed to us with amount we don't think is correct, after making phone calls to their billing office, we were told it's just an estimate cost not final charge, so I was always confused why they have to send the statement to us at the first place, not only it's time consuming but also caused confusion to patients. Recently I have to order night guard , I checked with the dentist and was told it will be cover up to 75 % percent by insurance. Upon receiving the product, I went to make the payment at front end receptionist without thorough checking I was asked to pay a lot higher than what I was told. I asked the receptionist to double check, within few seconds she confirmed I was right and charge me less, I was shocked and confused about the process of charging patients there, shouldn't more cautious be exercised like my case? what if I forget or didn't remind her to double checked then I will end up overpaying. I recently had a crown done by Dr. Zhang! I didn't even say I usually have dental anxiety, but Dr. Zhang and his assistant did great at explaining before doing anything and making sure I was comfortable. I have had a few other crowns elsewhere, but this was by far the most comfortable and calm I have been. The office itself was also very nice. It is newly renovated and added to my sense of calm during the appointment. 5 stars! read more

Terrible practice! Did not notice and warn us about red flags about our kiddo's teeth and facial development. Orthodontist consult was a joke with poor assessment and no follow ups. Please educate yourselves on latest research in dentistry and intervene and educate parents early. We wasted many years when our kid could have started treatment years earlier elsewhere if we were guided better. Parents- please do your research, advocate for your kids and intervene early. Don't fall into a trap by sticking to traditional dentistry who want to follow age old practices by the book. Hard lesson learnt! read more

The pediatric practice is unbelievable. Have been taking my children here for years. This review is solely for the adult practice which is run drastically different from the adult practice. First off, half the time you call it goes it to voicemail. Then when you do speak to someone, they speak to you like you are an idiot. I met with a new doctor, who offers Botox at the same office. I find that odd. A dental office that offers Botox??? I had a toothache and they referred me to Endodontics for a root canal. Had the root canal and needed this office to put a crown on it within 2-3 weeks according to the Endodontics. Called to make an apt and first available is 2-3 months away. When I told them I needed to have a it sooner. The receptionist response was " most people know that when they call the dentist they may have to book out for months". I have been going here for years- and they can't accommodate for a necessary procedure. Update- sept 2019 Never heard from the office despite the manager leaving a message on YELP saying I would hear from them. Changed dental offices and requested records sent which they did not do- had to have my new dental office call to retrieve the records while I sat in the chair waiting. read more

We've taken out kids there forever and never seemed to have any real strong opinion (positive or negative). However, when I decided to try them for myself, I was told I have 6 cavities that all needed to be filled. Seemed odd to me since I hadn't felt anything, but I set-up 2 separate appointments at their suggestion (doing all 6 at one time was too much). After talking to others who warned me about Chestnut suggesting services that were not needed, I decided to cancel the appt and go elsewhere. Interestingly enough, the new dentist told me I had one cavity. I've never been back and no longer take my kids there either. Beware! read more

Chestnut Dental is by far the best experience I've ever had (and I've been to several dental providers over the years). They are compassionate, knowledgable and flexible. I always trust that their recommendations are honest and that they're treating me like they'd treat their own family. Dr. Donnell in particular has been incredibly thoughtful in his care and attention. The front desk staff are attentive and always willing to work around scheduling conflicts (and will always notify me if something opens up at a time that's better for me). I wish I'd found the practice sooner, but now that I have, I'll be sticking with them for the long haul. read more

This review is for pediatric practice. Had nothing but billing issues with this office. Bogus charges for the appointments that my kids never even had. They admitted an error and promised to refund the funds back to the insurance. Bad claims submissions - incorrect names or wrong child resulted in insurance denial and then billing of the charges directly to us. I can't speak to the quality of their dentist as we were not there that long but back office is awful. read more

Dr. Regen was amazing with my daughter when we came in to get two cavities filled. She and the (wonderful) technician (whose name I sadly can't remember) explained everything to C. and made her feel very comfortable. Once everything was done, C mentioned how loose her front tooth was, and asked if it could be pulled. Dr. Regen was kind enough to comply, and my daughter was besides herself! We always have a great experience at Chestnut Dental, but this latest one was exceptional. read more

The pediatrics practice is far better than the adult practice. I recently had my teeth re-filled. The initial amalgam filling had fallen out after 15 plus years. I was not told anything about the procedure other than these fillings will be white and look like my teeth rather than silver. I was never told that the fillings would cost more, or that insurance doesn't tend to pay for these cosmetic fillings, or even that these cosmetic fillings only last 5 years! I was not even given the choice of choosing the more economical and better lasting filling. When I arrived for the appointment everyone at the office acted surprised that my insurance didn't cover. They demanded money then and there for the procedure and still didn't tell me that I had the choice of choosing the silver, amalgam fillings and at what cost. The procedure itself was done in a sloppy manner and I received abrasions on my lip. I am extremely disappointed in the service. I am not interested in expensive and sloppy service where the dentist care about providing the most expensive service rather than providing choices. read more

As a 14+ year patient at Chestnut dental I would have expected better from a recent pediatric visit for my son. The person I was dealing with was not pleasant from the moment we checked in for the visit. My son went in for a 6 month cleaning and was out in 20 minutes. 20 minutes. I asked if the dentist had checked him and was told yes. So you're telling me that in 20 minutes my son is getting a thorough cleaning and a check by the dentist? How is this possible? In the past, his cleanings and checks have always taken at least 30 minutes if not longer. I'm so incredibly disappointed in this experience and Chestnut Dental. This is not the service we have experienced in the past and makes me question whether or not we will continue to be patients here. read more

We love Dr. Anne Hertzberg. She is kind, gentle, and the right amount of silly with our son, while being honest and direct with us. She has a great bedside manner, and takes her time explaining her plan of action and answering all of our questions. We trust that she treats our son as she would treat her own. I haven't even had the chance to meet the dentists due to people they have answering the phone and billing department, and by billing I mean answering basic insurance question. Chestnut Dental is the third pediatric dentist we have taken our 9 year old to and the experience we have had at Chestnut is night and day different compared to the previous practices. The prior practices were fine but our son feels so much more comfortable with Chestnut and Dr. Anne Hertzberg. Dr. Hertzberg is so kind and caring and we trust she would never over treat a patient. She also goes out of her way to ensure our son knows exactly what is going on at all times which always puts him (and me) at ease. Our son also got braces at Chestnut Dental with Dr. Scott who was also amazing with him. The entire process has been incredibly smooth and it is such a bonus that both places are in the same building. We also now bring our 3 year old to the practice and his appointments have all been great and I am now going to the adult practice upstairs which I have also found to be delightful and really appreciate the evening appointments. I've been coming here since I was but a wee one (with a 5 year break when I was living out of state) and have always been more than pleased with it. It has also grown in leaps and bounds since I first started going. It is located in a three story building with it's own parking lot. The first floor is for pediatric dentistry, with the adult practice and orthodontics on the third floor. Everyone is always very warm and pleasant here, and they have after work/weekend hours which is a MUST. It is also large enough that if I was to have a dental emergency (which, thankfully, has never happened) I would certainly be able to see someone right away, even if my own dentist was not available. read more

These folks are a a high quality\cost dental service that seems to work well if you can fit their schedule. My wife and all of my children have been treated there for everything from the basics to ortho ($$$). I go to a practice in Boston as I can't get out to Needham due to inflexibility of appt hours. I called to request that a crown (which had fallen off) be reattached (10 min procedure) right before a holiday weekend. I indicted that I would pay the cost w\o insurance up front. The response: "we don't have time to provide that service to a new patient". BTW, I explained my relationship with the practice BEFORE making the request. The best way to get a new patient would be to be accommodating but that is way to hard for these folks. Very disappointing after all the business they have received. read more

My children have been going to Chestnut Dental (both the dental and the orthodontic practice) for over ten years. I can't say enough good things about both practices. They are ALWAYS on time, which is a pleasure. So far, for the dental practice, we've seen Drs. Shelley McBride, Jon Shusterman, Anne Hertzberg and Amy Regen. All have been fantastic! My daughter even had a tooth extracted and said it wasn't bad because Dr. Shusterman was funny and always let her know what was coming next. For the orthodontic practice, we've primarily seen Dr. Adam Donnell, though occasionally we've seen Dr. Jack Hertzberg. Once again, they are both fantastic - always keeping us informed and treating us like people rather than charts. I can't say enough good things about this practice! read more

When she needed a Pediatric Dentist my Pediatric Dental colleagues here in the Philadelphia area directed her to Chestnut Dental Associates, and their recommendation proved to be accurate, with her care being supervised by Anne Hertzberg, DMD since she was an infant. She recently completed her Orthodontic Treatment with Scott Harsfield, DMD, and we couldn't be more pleased with the result. Great office, great staff, great doctors! read more

My son and daughter have been coming to this office since they were 2 yrs old. Last yr my son had 7 cavities filled at their office. Unfortunately at his regular check up, they found 1 of the filling fell out. So the dentist who was examining my son at the time told me to come back to have that filled again free of charge since that filling fell out. We came back and Dr. Hertzberg filled my son's cavity and I told her the other dentist had told us that this would be free of charge since it was a filling that was previously filled at their office fell out. Dr. Hertzberg responded "I don't know why she told you that, she shouldn't have said that." I felt a little uncomfortable and I did feel I shouldn't be charged because it was a filling that they filled fell out! I didn't end up getting charged but I started to have my doubts with this office. I returned with my son for his bi-annual cleaning and found out that the tooth where the filling fell out has a tooth infection. To Dr. Hertzberg defense, she did warn me that they may not be able to save that tooth and she had asked if I wanted an extraction instead but I decided to have the cavity filled again to try to save that tooth. Now I wonder if that filling never fell out in the first place, would my son's tooth get an infection? After that, I took my kids to another dental office for a second opinion and found out that another of his filling had fell out! I don't know if this is normal, I personally had cavities filled and never falls out. And I want to mention, my son is very calm, he has always been praised by every dentist including Dr. Hertzberg about how calm and collected he is. So he's not one to move around when he gets his cavities filled. I decided to transfer my kids to this new dental office and have been very happy with their new dentist. Appointments were more readily available and thus far everything has been great. My daughter just had 6 cavities filled there and my son is also getting braces done there. read more

Worst billing department! My kids love the dentists but I got charged for the treatments that my insurances would cover. Later, they got paid by two insurances. The front desk said I have credit in my account. So, I called their billing department 3 times in 3 months. First two times, I was told that they would send a check next month. But no check was in the mail. So, I called again and they just said that I would not get any money back. read more

Have only positive things to say about our experiences with Chestnut Dental both in Franklin and Needham. I have one child in the orthodontic practice in Needham and both boys in the pediatric dental practice in Franklin. They have done an amazing job during this pandemic making sure everything is clean, organized and running as well as it did before. They are taking every precaution to keep everyone safe. Well the braces came off yesterday after about 2 years of invisilign and a final 5 months with hardware and wires. YeeHaw!! Our kids got their braces at Chestnut Dental but I never had braces as a kid so as a 50 something this was all new. Chestnut Dental has great people and a great process. We have been going to Chestnut Dental 2 years since our daughter was 1.5 years old. Each and every visit has been very positive. Dr. Hertzberg has such a way with little kids to make them feel comfortable in what could be an uncomfortable experience. She is smart, fun, silly, kind, caring and helpful. The hygenists are also wonderful and make us feel at ease while there. They answer all questions very professionally and give my daughter the education she needs. I was told that Chestnut Dental would be a great place to take my son who has Asperger's Syndrome ( a form of autism). He has sensory issues that make dentist appointments challenging. While our first visit was fine, our second visit did not go so well. Dr. Needleman seemed frustrated when my son was not as cooperative as he would have liked. He told my son he was making him late for his lunch. Finally it became too much for my son and he ended up having a pretty major tantrum. After a completely stressful appointment, Dr. Needleman decided to make things even worse by having his secretary tell me not to come back to his office. He didn't even have the guts to do it himself!!! read more

Where this review is coming from - my great-grandfather, grandfather and uncle were all dentists and taught other dentists. This practice is EXCELLENT, from the doctors to the facilities to the staff. We visited all three sides - me in adult practice, two kids in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Everyone knew what they were doing, how to do it, how to explain concerns, etc. I got very good feedback about my prior orthodontists when Dr. J Hertzberg clearly explained how he would like to treat my kids, changes he would like to make, etc. My kids corroborated this when they told me they like Dr. J Hertzberg better than their prior orthodontists. Easy to make appointments, get online reminders, etc. Very highly RECOMMENDED. read more

Beware This practice is not honest with, or caring of, patients. Tried going there for major toothache. They claimed to have room for a new patient and want the business. Then talked for 1/2 hour and scheduled the actual appt over 7 weeks out. I don't believe they have any obligation to treat me, but they should be honest about not having room for a new patient in their practice. If u want a practice that deals w emergencies 2 months after they occur - this practice is for you. If you want a dentist who cares about more than your wallet - suggest keep looking. read more

Superb pediatric dentistry. My kids (ages 2 & 4) were all smiles and totally at ease. My only small critiques would be that the soap dispenser in the bathroom is very high and out of reach for kids, and the toys in the waiting room are somewhat lacking. We were looking for an exceptional dentist because my daughter was born with weak enamel which required all of her teeth to be worked on at age 2! Thankfully a client referred us to Chestnut Dental, and we have been so pleased with the care and courtesy we receive at each visit! Everyone on staff from the receptionists, to the hygienists, to the doctors are warm, friendly and helpful- we always feel welcomed, well informed and well cared for. They do an extraordinary job of putting my daughter at ease and helping her through procedures which are scary or challenging for her.
