I don't even know why we get the couple's room, when we pretty much mind our own business as soon as we lie in our massage beds. As soon as you enter the massage room, you'll forget that you're in a mall. Your masseuse will make you change into robes, and bring you hot lemon tea or lukewarm water while she prepares the sauna room for you. You can choose not to use the sauna, but it's a nice way to prep you for a super relaxing massage. The massage session itself is satisfying. I never doze off when I'm getting a massage here, because I want to enjoy every bit of the one-hour session. There's really nothing to complain about in this spa. If I had to nitpick though, I wish they'd retire their Sitti cd and play more relaxing music instead. I'm sure the Bossa Nova Diva wouldn't mind.

Naturally lit, bamboo wood shades covering the glass sun panels, spa music, fresh flowers... The works! My masseuse was this soft-spoken lady (and not the chatty type either) who quietly massaged me for an hour and it was incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. After an hour, they even serve you a cup of what I think was ginger turmeric tea. Blissful indeed!

The place is not new and it shows, but they have this combination service that I really like. A one hour massage goes for P200 there. A one hour body scrub goes for P300. But get the two services combined and you only have to pay P450. The P50 savings is still P50, isn't it? You can add it to the tip you can give your masseuse if you're happy with the service. I almost always get the combined service because the body scrup can work wonders on your skin. I really don't know what they rub on you, but it feels like sand or salt, so it's rough on the skin. But the results can be amazing. I mean you end up with youthful skin with a glow right after. The body scrub usually comes first, after which you take a shower to get rid of that icky feeling of lying on a bed of sand. What follows is a standard massage. It's the combination of the two that leaves one feeling like a million bucks. The place has separate facilities for men and women, of course. The ladies are serviced on the ground floor, the men on the second. I like to give a standard tip of P100 to the masseuse because as far as I'm concerned, the service is totally worth it.

I gave Black Stone Spa a call and asked them to send their best therapist to me and give me a hot stone massage. 15 minutes later, my masseuse was at my doorstep. Upon telling her it was my first time to have hot stone massage performed on me, she quickly gave me a briefer and had requested for me to trust her so I can relax. Hmm.. That worked well. I was asleep in no time, but in and out of sleep, only to be soothed back into sleep. Around 50 minutes into the massage, she informed me that she could either concentrate a bit more on my problem areas, or cut short the session. With no hesitation, I called their hotline and informed them that I was going to extend. It was that good. And yes, I have been a regular customer ever since, with or without fever.

The only place I know that does that is huge, with a separate dining, massage and hot/cold bath areas. Orange Cool is your typically small, neighbourhood spa that mostly offers the various types of massage, from shiatsu to Swedish to Thai. The one clear advantage it has over the other spas in the Better Living Area is that it has a small sauna. Only two or three can fit comfortably inside the hot room, which is only turned on at the request of the guest. Usually I do spend a few minutes inside to sweat off all the toxins in my body, before taking a shower and getting a massage. Orange Cool is also one of the few places that offers ventosa, an Oriental procedure that supposedly sucks the excess water from the lungs. Since the place is still on the new side, Orange Spa has the best ambiance for a local spa. I miss the times when I would just walk to this place, get a massage, and head home guaranteed to get a good night's sleep.

I don't know if there's scientific evidence behind this method but it really does leave you feeling relaxed during the session and recharged soon after. Definitely one of the best value-for-money spas in the South.
