The service was very unprofessional and the waitress insulted me when I told her about the quality of my order, a duck noodle soup. She said you should consider yourself lucky that you got a duck drumstick. This half piece of drumstick I got was from last night (I can tell). The skin of the half drumstick was greasy. Besides this wrinkled half drumstick, all I got were odds and ends, mostly the smelly ends of the duck that I couldn't eat because of the smell. I will never go back. I hope nobody got sick from this restaurant. This restaurant really needs to train the staff to at least respect customers. read more

For the quality and the price, you get what you pay for. I wish the Honey walnut prawns were a little more crunchy, they were soggy. I wish the Tomato/Beef chow mein had more flavor. Someone recommended this spot to me. I was apprehensive with the Yelp reviews being so low but I had to try it based on the recommendation so I decided to order takeout from Postmates. Here's what I got: 1 - Westlake Beef Soup - one of my favorite soups and so underrated 2 - Fish with Tender Greens - simple and clean 3 - Braised Mustard Greens with Mushroom - they don't specify on the menu but these are Shitake mushrooms) 4 - Young Zhou Fried Rice 5 - Two Item BBQ - I choose roast duck and roast pork (I could taste the crispiness in the duck skin and the crunchiness in the roast pork skin) Given that this was a to go order, everything was packed really well in plastic containers and as for the taste, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and high quality. Everything tasted as I would have expected for this kind of establishment. Nothing was too over-seasoned or greasy. Just as expected, no surprises. I can't say anything about the service or ambience because I didn't dine in but this will definitely be on my list of rotations when ordering out. Dined here on a Friday night. The place was packed by 100% Chinese people. That alone should be validation for anyone looking for a good Cantonese restaurant. We had 3 dishes. The beef chow fun (dry style) was pretty good - generous portion, beef not too tough, and good "wok marks" on the noodles. The roast duck (1/2) was also nice - good sized roast duck, well cut, and not too salty. The pea sprouts in garlic, however, I would not recommend - there were too many stalks that were virtually inedible, even though the seasoning was ok. Maybe it was a bad batch of pea sprouts, or the preparation was off, but it was pretty bad. We got a whole sliced orange for dessert which was generous and tasty. The service was normal for a Cantonese restaurant. They were a little understaffed (3 waitpersons), but they were efficient (once you could track one down). The orders were entered on the server's iPad, and we paid by credit card (which they scanned at their terminal). My mother in law ordered for Thanksgiving pickup a large family style Peking Duck, BBQ pork, Roast Pig, Beef and Bitter melon, Fried flounder. It was pre-paid, and the pickup was horrible, and restaurant folks were rude. We were told to double check the order by the mother in law and the restaurant folks did not like that gesture. To top off the rudeness, we asked for minced garlic and ginger sauce and fortune cookies, and to our laughter of the rudeness, she said "you didn't order chopped steam chicken" in Chinese. The fortune cookies was for my Chinese mother in law, were thrown across the counter as to really piss us off, no bag, no kindness, just subtle rudeness in her actions. I am certainly glad I don't live on that side of the peninsula, and have regrets for those customers who came after us, after all the restaurant was not busy with dining customers...regretfully, the restaurant lady said to us as we were leaving a "Happy Holiday" farewell...go figure? read more

I don't understand why this place isn't rated with more stars. I recently went there for someone's birthday. Practically the whole restaurant was set up for my friend's birthday. Nice place, food was really good, I think we had 8-9 courses. There wasn't any dish that was bad. Service was pretty good too. I plan on bringing my family here soon. She then walked away after writing on the receipt, $22. BEWARE! Ordered the Roast Duck. Came to the table cold. We told our waitress the duck was cold. She picked it up and walked away. My wife followed her. The waitress stuck it in a microwave! My wife told her that we did not want microwaved duck. We wanted fresh duck. The waitress then told us that they do not cook the duck there. They bring it in from their Milbrae location! If you want microwaved duck, this is your place. I also agree with other patrons about the rude service but I can deal with that. Not fresh food I cannot. Go to Silver house. We love this place! This location has been our go to Cantonese takeout spot all throughout the pandemic. I will say Chinese food is very personal and we do like to add a little extra garlic and oyster sauce to the seafood noodles when we heat it up. As well as extra chili peppers to the chow fun. But in general, from their roast deli meats to stir-fries and noodle dishes, everything is as expectedly delicious! I've never eaten in house so I but service for takeout has always been consistently fast and efficient. As most takeout places, I recommend knowing what you want to order ahead of time instead of asking for suggestions. I also noticed ordering and pickup work better in Chinese rather than English. However I don't think the language barrier is a big issue. read more

Ordered through Grub Hub and mostly seeking comfort food to get me through a rough patch and a terrible head cold. I loved the chicken porridge and it nourished me so well on day one of my illness. My 20 year old, who is not picky was less than impressed with the " gluey orange chicken and doughy pot stickers". Day two of my "soup fast" was disappointing. I realized that although I ordered and paid for the combo( Hing to) wonton soup - $19.15 versus $12, I received the latter. .. so no chicken, pork, shrimp, snow peas. We went to Cheung Hing for takeout and really enjoyed our meal. We ordered the beef chow fun, chicken with salted fish and tofu clay pot, and a vegetable dish. Everything was very tasty, not too oily, had great flavor, and came in large portions. Our meal ended up being $50 for two people and we had leftovers for the next day. Booths setup along the walls with round tables in the middle. Great place for catching up with family and friends. This place seems to be the spot the locals. Solid 2.5 due to availability in the area with this type of foods. For the normal customers / locals coming in to grab take out foods there seems to be regulars. There is a lunch/dinner menu as well. Every time the food is great for what I order. The duck while greasy always has so much flavor, and I really enjoy eating the vegetables on the plate under the meat. The salt and pepper squid is crispy, and I love the chili and green onions bc they add a fresh crunch to the dish. Lastly, the string beans are great and you can never go wrong with them. I feel like Cheung Hung imo is generally more consistent in my experience than some other similar Chinese restaurants. Food 3.25*, Ambiance 3*, service 2.75* Eight of us came for dinner last Friday; it was the first time for most of us. Restaurant was quite busy around 6:30, it was hard to get the attention from any of the waitresses to even let them know that we had reservation. After we were seated, waited again for quite a while to order. Couldn't even make eye contact until finally someone came and she did apologize for keeping us waiting. We shared the following: Seafood tofu soup (3*)- good/OK, portion size was good for 3-4 people. Steamed fish(4*) - The best dish of our dinner. For $40 fixed price we were promised a two pounder; although the fish was maybe 1.5 lb at best everyone did enjoyed the very fresh flaking fish. Pork belly with preserved vegetable (2.5*) - pork was not flavorful, sauce was kind of watery, even the color was pale, perhaps the worst dish of the night. A whole roasted duck (3*) - a good size duck, tasted good/ok but we expected crispier skin for a place known for it's Chinese BBQ. Roasted pork (3.5*) - a little on the fatty side, skin was crispy. Bitter melon with spareribs (4*) - very tasty and good portion; didn't realize many of us actually enjoyed bitter melon. Eggplant with garlic sauce (3*) - average Beef chow fun with black bean sauce (3.5*) - some of us liked it a lot. Lobster noodles (4*) - A special deal when total order exceeds $88; pay $10 for the noodles and get the lobster for free. This dish was well received, the lobster was probably 1.25 lb but very fresh, noodles were tasty and in generous portion. We also received complimentary red bean soup for dessert and a $10 coupon good for a month to be used in any of the 6 Cheung Hing's in the area. The waitresses were all quite friendly once the dinner rush was over. All of us did enjoy our meal, we had a lot to eat and price was reasonable (after $20% tip @$28pp). I was surprised to see the rating here is so low because I think the food is (still) delicious, and I figured it's likely because the service can be terrible. The place is still packed with Chinese people pretty consistently, and bad service is a hallmark of an authentic Chinese restaurant. However, I perused some reviews and it seems that more than one person had the same experience that I had, where their bill was not the right amount and the restaurant seemed to try to overcharge them (one person even mentioned a tip being written into the receipt). So frankly, I would say the food is usually great, albeit slightly inconsistent, as it seems about 1/3 times it doesn't quite hit the mark for me, but be wary of getting overcharged, might be best just to pay in cash. I am surprised this averaged only 3 stars in the reviews. We found this restaurant to be rather good for Chinese food at least the dishes we tried. The staff was very welcoming and attentive with 2-3 helping us. Our go to is always Mongolian Beef and they had a very tender and delicious Mongolian Beef with the velevty tender beef I like and good spiciness. 4.0 stars. Next was a golden tofu and mushrooms with seafood claypot. The tofu was very tender. This was a 3.5 stars (as I am not into seafood as my other family members are). As was the fried fish. Now with an order of a certain amount you get a discounted (forgot -think it was like half the price or like only 9.00 or so)dish (think a choice between two?) and so we got a lobster noodle dish! Now THIS was good! I don't like seafood normally but I do like lobster and crab and this really made the meal special! I probably would have not ordered this normally, so for the price this was a great deal and made it more special! 5.0 stars for the flavor and deal! Sesame chicken with golden soft tofu rounds which was good, The tofu was light and pillowy which I liked and never tried this one before. 4.0 stars. We also had greens which was nothing special just regular greens which I like, so I won't even rate that one. The complimentary red bean soup dessert hit the spot and was a nice touch at the end-4 stars. This is an acquired taste, so I am not sure how Americans would like this, It is sweet but I think maybe because it is a sweet bean type of soup and not like an American style dessert, that it may not be appreciated as much and seem strange to others who are not used to it. I personally love it, but I grew up eating this so comfort food for me! My kids look at it and pass-lol! Overall, I liked this place even better than the other Cheung Hing and I gave it a 3.92 rating so rounded it to 4. Think the lobster noodle special deal really boosted this rating-so get it, you will like it! We have always been ordering takeouts from Cheung Hing and enjoyed it. But our latest experience has been very poor :( I found a human hair in my chow fun. The roast pork only has skin, fat, and bone. Not much edible parts. The veggies were not washed and I could still see dirt at the root. Is this the best Chinese food ever? No. Does it hit the spot when you're craving Chinese food? Absolutely. They have a location in Millbrae where I've been to order roast pork. But this location is restaurant only, no deli. We've only ordered takeout and have never had a bad experience. They usually give fairly accurate wait times for the food, which I always appreciate. We definitely have some dishes that we order every time, and some that we wouldn't get again. And their complimentary fried rice (for orders over $40) is so good too!! - Walnut prawns: Pretty decent for the area! My SO and I tend to judge Chinese restaurants based on this dish. - Eggplant and fish in clay pot: We order this every time. Love it. - Fish and tofu: We ordered this recently and I would order it again. - Roast pork: Ordered this to eat with Vietnamese food and it was good! We'd order it again since we don't really know where else we can get food roast pork. - Cumin lamb: We ordered this to try something new and we would not order again - Mongolian beef: We would probably skip this too - We've also ordered a variety of their vegetable dishes and they were all satisfactory. a mini chain with a few different locations from peninsula to the south bay. i have only tried this location though. i only know about the others because they gave us a calendar that showed all the locations. ive been here a few times and the service is good for a chinese restaurant. they are very attentive and accommodate big parties. the food is pretty good where i keep returning. nothing is overly salty or oily. they have a big selection of chinese plates, very traditionally prepared. my one gripe was the lazy susan was so wobbly. we had to be careful not to knock over our foods when we spun it. its located in a strip mall so plenty of parking. read more

The problem isn't the food. The food has always been good. Sadly, it takes a very long time for you to get your food. Called in an order for Pork Fried Rice. It took them 35 minutes to cook the order. If you have plenty of time in your day to eat here, I say go for it. But they don't seem to have any hustle to preparing the meals. Was looking for a restaurant that serves peking duck to go with buns in San Mateo, Redwood City or Belmont area and we selected this restaurant because it had it on its menu. It's my daughter's favorite dish who was visiting from Southern California and she doesn't get to eat it too often. So many restaurants serve peking duck with thin pancake (like mushu pork) and that is not the style I wanted. As mentioned by many reviews - their peking duck is actually roast duck with the sauce, buns and slivers of green onion. Do not expect the crispy skin type duck (thus one of the reasons I only gave 4 stars). Basically you're served roast duck and paying $10 more for 12 buns, the oyter sauce and thin slivers of green onion. We opted for the Family Dinner Menu B which includes whole peking duck and soup and 6 dishes from the list. The Family Dinner serve 4 -8 people - and there were 6 adults and 2 kids (toddler and baby) so it was enough food for lunch and dinner. We were able to do take out which in addition to the whole peking duck, choice of soup, we then selected the following 6 dishes (after asking the family to select their favorite dish: 1) mongolian beef - normally spicy but I requested not too spicy and it was good, only wished there was more beef 2) walnut shrimp - good 3) Hong Kong style spare ribs - which is actually sweet and sour spare ribs and if I had known it was sweet and sour, I would have selected peking spare ribs instead (thus the 4 stars) 4) braised tofu with mushroom - good (enjoyed by kids) 5) beef with enoki mushrooms in clay pot - good but not enough beef 6) substituted chicken chow mein instead of selecting another dish from the list (I requested bbq chow mein but got chicken chow mein thus the 4 stars), it was good but had a little too much bean sprouts Soup - seawood with tofu - was good and enjoyed by all. It's soothing. We had this for both lunch and dinner and a good sign with my family is if I don't hear any complaints and it's mostly gone by the end of the day, then it satisfied my family. read more

I ordered a whole roast duck on the phone and went to pick it up in person. Because it's a whole duck , I asked for an extra plum sauce and some napkins in mandarin. This Asian lady server with short hair pretended she didn't hear me, so I witched to English. And she continued to pretend she didn't understand me. Then she literally walked away from me to the back of the restaurant and didn't come out, after a minute of waiting, I gave up and left . Her behavior is totally unacceptable, PS: the one star is for their duck, not for their service :-( read more
