Wow, I did not realize how long it had been since I went to this Chevys. I pass it all the time when I go to the AMC Theater next door, but Tex Mex is not generally my go-to cuisine. Recently I decided to check it out again and I'm glad I did. Sometimes it's nice to see a restaurant update its interior, but in this case almost nothing has changed inside, but that's fine. The unique "bottle lights" in the ceiling, the dark wood and various tchotchke distributed throughout the restaurant really give it a whimsical feeling. The staff is super friendly, something that I remember from previous visits. During my most recent visit I was seated very quickly by the super nice hostess. My waiter came over a few minutes later and was super nice and I never felt neglected during my meal. The menu has changed dramatically since my last visit. I remember there being fish tacos that featured grilled fish (instead of battered and fried). I also used to enjoy having a vegetarian quesadilla but those are off the menu, replaced with a veggie burrito. The burrito is good but I preferred the quesadilla. I enjoyed my visit and I'm glad the quality of this place is still there (and it would explain the restaurant's longevity). read more

I can't lie, I'm not a fan of many chain restaurants but Chevy's in Linden NJ never disappoints. This is a great location to get affordable and delicious food. I highly suggest their chicken falutas, drinks, tamalito, and rice and beans. The service is always great, they were extremely friendly and aware of what you need during your dining experience. I didn't know Chevy's would become a go-to burger olace for us, but we were pleasantly surprised! A margarita and a tex mex burger with the crispiest fries? Yes, please. We went on a monday evening, which made it very easy to get seated and helped. Their happens to be a car show in the parking lot often during that time, which made for a really fun night! Their steak tostada appetizer was surprisingly crispy and delicious. We could have done without the al pastor tacos, but their new quesadilla burger stole the show! We asked for it medium rare and it came out an honest medium rare, which was very flavorful. And like I said, their fries were amazing! The only reason they are getting one star is the drinks were actually good. We went in for dinner and were told a 5 minute wait for a table. We said we would wait at the bar until a table was ready. Waited about 20 minutes, finished our drinks and left. When we asked why we never got a table we were told we had to go back up and ask again. Would have been fine but we were never told that. Meanwhile, the person seating people leaned on half wall and watched TV. read more

Chevys Tex Mex is our happy place for most of our family celebrations. The staff is professional, fun and always welcoming. We love the cheese quesadillas, the chicken and steak fajitas but most of all we love the frozen margaritas along with the complimentary chips and salsa. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing and children of all ages are welcome. We look forward to our favorite waiter "Louis"...he has been "adopted" by us as a member of our family. This place is so *bleep*ing awesome. I seriously had the best night of my life here celebrating my niece's 8th birthday, or as our waiter said- ocho! Haha it was the best night of my life, seriously. I laughed a *bleep*ton with my cousins and my sister and had an excellent margarita. I was only here once before last week and it was for about 10 minutes because my sister no-showed and I just decided to leave. I was so upset that I didn't eat anything for like a day and a half. But this was my first time having the food at Chevys and it was amazing. I had a taco and it tasted like Heaven. I had a stomach ache right after so I only had the one taco but it was so good. The bathrooms here were really clean too before I went in. We loved all of our meals but most of the family didn't eat too much because we were mostly there for drinks. But my niece was hungry, for real! Admittedly my niece is a little overweight, so she seriously pigged the fuck out. Four adult-sized tacos and an entire plate of chips. The plate was the size of her head, it was hilarious. I didn't think there was any way she would finish it but she did. They gave her a sombrero to wear but at the end of the dinner they said they needed to take it back. She started to cry and our waiter pulled an incredibly kind audible- he let her keep it! He seriously let her take it home, he was the nicest waiter I've ever had and had a hilarious accent. Genuinely an amazing night except for one small moment, but it wasn't the restaurant's fault at all. They brought out a little ball of dough for my niece to play with and she took a huge bite out of it. My sister (her mother) tapped her arm pretty hard and told her to spit it out. It wasn't a "hit" like she didn't "strike" her so it isn't anything to seriously worry about but it kind of killed the mood for a few minutes. This is the 1st review of a restaurant I've written that is NOT about the food. The food was amazing, everyone in our party enjoyed their dish. The service was fast, friendly, & understanding. Shout out to our server, although I did not catch her name. I booked a reservation for 8 on OpenTable for Cinco de Mayo. I was accepted and confirmed. I happened to call to confirm, because something didn't feel right. Turns out, I was correct. They were NOT taking reservations for Cinco de Mayo. They saw it, confirmed, but then basically said it wasn't a valid reservation. I asked for a Supervisor & got Jess. I ended up saying "meet me 1/2 way," & she and her crew did beyond that. In the end our party of 8 was a party of 12. She made quite a few "exceptions" for us & accommodated us. So thankful that she was willing to be helpful in this situation. Went for a quick bite with the family on a Sunday. Prices on the menu were reasonable. This place served brunch until 3pm. Portions were huge, unfortunately the taste was bland and felt like something is missing. We tried the Mexican platter (wings were too chewy ) I loved the flavor options for the flight of mimosa(I picked passion fruit, strawberry and mango) we were served salsa and chips, chips were nice and warm but the salsa, bland. We ordered the queso but it didn't do much for either. I personally wouldn't go for a meal, I did like their drink menu and the prices so would go for that instead. read more

Went to this location with family. The place itself is nice, good seating and interesting decor. The plates and silverware were a bit dirty (watermarks, not thoroughly washed). Our food came fairly quick. I ordered the chicken flautas dinner plate. The flautas were nice but they didn't come covered in any sauces like the enchiladas. The rice was terrible. Dry and hard, they most likely made it days before. The burrito and the enchiladas were good and had enough sides/sauce. The waiter was friendly but seemed to want to rush us out. We ordered a tres leches to share, what a disappointment. The tres leches was just a thick cake with little to no milk and a lack of sugar. Overall good location just lacking in authenticity and genuine Mexican flavors. read more

This is the first time we went to Chevys with a lot of hope and excitement that lasted only until we took the first bite. The food quantity, menu , the extended happy hours is all very attractive to start with. They start off by chips and tomatillo salsa , not sure why is it supposed to be greasy. We got the mojito and horchata for the drinks with farmers market for me and much reviewed and ordered corn and Shrimp tomalito s for my husband. The drinks and the food came in together. Farmers market - like previously mentioned, the portion sizes are huge . Came in on a sizzling hot plate - one portion of yellow rice and black beans, a big portion of sautéed portobello mushrooms with peppers, zucchini and other veggies , and other small portion of sour cream, lettuce, salsa an d mashed corn with side of three soft tortillas in a brown bag. It was bland, there was nothing exceptional about this recommended vegetarian dish. There was no spice to it, no sauce added nor was divided with. Tomalito - my husband said while there was a good quantity of Wil cooked shrimp, again no taste to it. Infact even with the green sauce, the dish was too sweet for him because of the mashed corn. Mojito- it was definitely one of the saviors on the table, but the size with the quantity of ice to the drink amazes me. I doubt if there was any alcohol in it. Horchata- came in a sugar rim wine glass, good drink with no alcohol. The decor Is pretty nice, the restrooms are decent, there's a huge parking lot at all +1s to this two stars are for the waitress, unlike the popular reviews about them, we got a very sweet one. Service has been going down for some time here. My wife and I stopped by on a Friday evening at around 5:00 pm - purposely early because of how spotty service is once it gets busier. We were seated by the hostess - and obviously forgotten about. We sat there for 12 minutes, which I think I was a more than adequate time to have been greeted, with no one even approaching us with a "hi I'll be right with you" let alone our server (we never did find out who it was supposed to be). We decided to go elsewhere. I would have said something to the manager had they been around (they're usually not; once upon a time you could always count on the manager asking how your food and experience was. No more.) so instead when I walked out I told the hostess we were leaving because our server had never come to our table. She said nothing, no apology, no "I'll go get her/him; just looked at me like a deer in the headlights. I don't think I'll be going back to this Chevys again. As I said at the open the service has been going down hill for some time, I attribute it to poor management. Hopefully they read this and do something about it. read more
