Came in on a Saturday night after a movie about 8pm and got a sit for 2 at the bar right a way. We come here a few times a year and the service is always good in the bar area. Carne Asada Fries was okay not sure why they put bell peppers on that. Never seen that before. The steak was tender. Chicken & Corn Chowder was very flavor and tasted great. Brought the kids here for happy hour! We were so lucky to get a very friendly and informative server! Brenda is so sweet and suggested putting some sauces on the side to keep it kid friendly for the spice level. She is awesome! She also makes the tortillas which I did not know. Wow! My wife and I headed out for a few drinks and nothing beats drinks with Chevy's chips and salsa. We had a small seating hiccup when we first arrived at the cantina area, but once we were seated in the dining section everything turned around. The food here is horrible! Came here for date night and left unsatisfied and regretful. Our waitress was very nice, our issues was with the food and it pretty much was a disaster right away. The mexican rice on my husband's plate was horrible, did not taste like mexican rice. The corn tomalitos used to be soo good and they use to give an ice cream scoop size now it's dry, corn is rubbery and they give u a tablespoon size! HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT AND MAIN HOSTESS! Just returned home from eating at Chevys Union City. We arrived and I checked in as I had made a reservation at 545pm for a party of 4. A worker told me that it would be a few minutes (mind you the place was less than half full). Within thr 15 mins after checking in 3 other employees (one being the main hostess) asked if they could help us. With each person I explained that I had checked in and was still waiting to be seated. We get seated in a corner facing the tortilla making machine. 10 mins go by, NO SERVER, NO CHIPS AND SALSA ! Mind you within thiese ten minutes we see the manager and several other employees wandering around the restaurant with the "not a care in the world ". Our server Eduardo comes and introduces himself and says he would be right back with chips and salsa. 5 mins go by and he brings us chips and no salsa. Another 5 mins pass and we see our server appear from the kitchen with a try full of what appears to be clean salsa bowls. We finally get our salsa and place our orders. Drinks roll out about 15 mins after orders were placed (we just ordered sodas!) Our chips and salsa run out shortly after getting our drinks. Our waiter was clearly over worked as we had seen him bust his butt between at least 5 other tables and again the manager and several other employees wandering around the restaurant with the "not a care in the world ". We track someone down to please refill our chips and salsa while we are waiting for our table side guacamole to come out with our server. 10 mins after that our server appears table side making our guacamole. In the midst of him making the guacamole, our food comes out. HOWEVER, NO TORTILLAS for 2 of our fajita meals. 15ish mins go by and still no tortillas! My husband see the manager near the tortilla maker and tells him that we need tortillas before our food gets any colder. Our server sees the interaction and goes rushing to make our tortillas apologizes to my husband that he forgot to make them. We finally get the tortillas and now our drinks are out! Was there anyone willing and able to assist us... ‍ ‍ NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! We had flagged down the hostess and another staff member to please assist us and was met with nothing but B*tchy attitude verbally and in body language!! WTF!!! Mind you during our lack of service and issues we see our main server continue to bust his butt and be handed more tables to wait on!!! I am shocked he didn't quit then and there!!. Now it time for the check.... waiting 15 mins with clean plates and empty cups for the bill. Track down and assistant manager and explain our issues and was just met with "sorry " even when we asked to speak to main manager. Wa told she could not get him ... no real explanation..... paid the bill and waited around for 10 mins hoping to catch the manager and express my frustration and issues and of course no where to be found!! Okay as a starter, the food was great. I'm giving it 3 stars, however, because the host was rude. When we first got there, she greeted us normally and asked how many. I said 5 and she said "okay give me a second" before walking away from the stand. As she walks away, another person asks us if we've been helped. They could've deleted us on accident or whatever it was. It would've been fine, but she started claiming that we were never on the waitlist. Also, we didn't miss our table because I didn't get any text saying it was ready + we were sitting right there and they never called us. Maybe like 4-5 minutes later, they seat us. The manager came over and apologized for the incident, she offered us free dessert, and was just kind. I'd like to add that throughout our dinner, the host would walk by and give us some rude looks which made us feel uncomfortable. We were never rude to her or the other guy, we just asked. We weren't rushing them at all, just wanted a time estimate. She really could've just told us that they deleted it on accident, didn't register it, thought they had called us, etc. There's a couple of situations that could've happened and they could've just been honest. Instead it seemed like she wanted to gaslight us into believing that we never joined the waitlist. Our server was an absolute sweetheart. She was so attentive and kind. Back in the day, I used to go to the Emeryville Chevy's semi-regularly, with my partner, and occasionally with coworkers for lunch or happy hour. It was a fun spot at a prime waterfront location, and it was a bummer when they closed. Since then, this Union City Chevy's is the one closest to home, and we periodically pop in when in the area. The service, once you get it, is always pretty good. The staff works hard, but it's obvious they're stretched too thin. It's a big restaurant, and gets very busy at times. There is not enough staff to keep up with the volume, especially during busy periods. The food is typical Tex-Mex, tasty and satisfying. We usually get a quesadilla or some tacos. The shrimp fajitas are great too. I really like their house tortilla chips, they're very thin and easy to munch on, unlike those thick fried tortillas you find at some places that you can break a tooth on. Drinks are always good too, with a variety of traditional and flavored margaritas, and other bevies that they're happy to customize to your taste. Nice establishment and experience overall, and props to the hardworking staff, but owners, please hire more people! Your customers deserve prompt service, and your existing employees deserve more support. read more

I'm so pleased to see that Chevy's customer service was top tier! Starting with the host, [which I sadly forgot her name] who greeted us with a smile and asked if we'd like to sit on the restaurant side or cantina...she then explained the happy hour menu to help us make up our mind. lol. When we found our seat, Brenda, our server was just the sweetest! She was very thorough, asked if we had any allergies, kept refilling our chips and water, checked in on us repeatedly, and still assisted us even though she was supposed to go on her break. After HH, I asked for the manager, Darlene, just to let her know how happy we were with the service...Darlene was extra nice too!! Our server Gabriel was very friendly and checked on us often. I don't understand when people post negative reviews on here.
