We spent one day in Belgium on our trip to Europe, decided to go to Bruges for the day, and went back to Chez Albert MULTIPLE times just because of how good these waffles were. The strawberries are SO fresh and compliment the warm, fluffy waffle so well. The ice cream is a great addition if you're in looking to have a waffle on a hot summer day as well. The service was very quick as you just walk up, order and pay, and go to the other window to pick up your waffle. It was great, we got our waffles and were able to walk around Bruges and eat them. Truly a must do.
As others have said- it's not a sit down establishment. You order at the window and it was a card only payment, no cash. There seems to always be a long line. However do not let this deter you. They are highly efficient and have a system therefore the wait goes fast. Just be sure to be situationally aware. It's along a busy street where a lot of horse carriage rides transit, so don't hang out in the street. Also, be mindful to step aside once you place your order (probably to the left facing the order window, but do not block the walkway that allows the employees to deliver your order. They call out your number and it's hot and fresh. There was no room to sit on the steps/stoops so I stood and enjoyed my waffle. Personally, I feel like one Belgian waffle is sufficient to share between 2 people because it's rich and really sweet if you get the chocolate one. While I enjoyed it and the presentation was excellent, the waffle was very dense and really chewy. But I think that's how they are since it's made from yeast based dough. It's definitely worth the try, just too sweet and too chewy for my preference. Staff were very friendly and kind as well!!
We tried a total of 5 waffle places - 4 Liege waffles and 1 Brussels waffle. We tried three of these places in Bruges and this is my favorite waffle place in terms of waffle (not topping). We got the waffle with chocolate. The chocolate is too milky and sweet, so I would skip it next time and just get it plain. The waffle is freshly made. It's soft and molten on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. It's a delicious treat after climbing the Belfrey. There is no place to sit inside the store, but you can hold and eat your waffle. There is always a short (~3 people) line, but I guess it's popular enough that nearby stores have posters asking you not to eat waffles in front of their stores lol.
The waffles were good. The service was terrible. They overcharged us and put in multiple orders of the same thing. And then why we got the receipt and saw it and told them they refused to refund us. After a lot of back and forth they finally agreed to refund us, but just asked us to leave our name so their owner can process it. The refund was never processed and we had to file a dispute with our credit card.
I visited Bruges, a beautiful medieval city in Belgium. I was eager to try a Belgian waffle and found a place in the center of town. I chose the classic item--a waffle topped with strawberries and chocolate. The waffle itself was good, and while the chocolate sauce was quite sweet, it was delicious. The strawberries were also very sweet and not sour at all! I was very satisfied with the Belgian waffle and really enjoyed it. It was definitely worth experiencing this quintessential Belgian comfort food.
I came to Bruges on a day trip from a cruise. So safe to say I did not have much time in the city. But I came in on a mission and first on that list was belgium waffles. When we got off the taxi we started walking around the square and stumbled upon this spot. Once in front of it I googled real quick best waffles in the city and this place was on the list. So instead of wasting time walking around we got right to business and ordered two of them. I was with my boss and we opted for sharing two different options. The first one was a waffle with milk chocolate, strawberries, and whipped cream, the second one was a waffle with caramel on top and whipped cream. The lady at the stand was making them fresh to order. She was super efficient, patient, and kind. The establishment is a little window, you cannot sit inside but don't worry there is a stoop right across the way where we sat and enjoyed ours. We tried both of them and shared them both equally. The strawberry and milk chocolate one was my favorite because the strawberries added such a freshness to the dish and it made it not so sweet. However, the caramel was a close competitor because it was fresh and simple and delicious. I would highly recommend this spot and the pro tip is to sit on the steps in front and just enjoy the waffle.
Love Belgium chocolate! Excellent place to get the hot chocolate fixed, their hot chocolate was so creamy, buttery and delicious. 5/5 Big fan! They also sell Belgium waffles and ice cream too. We had the strawberries whipped cream Belgium chocolate waffle. Strawberries were fresh, but I wish it could have more chocolate and the handmade waffle could be more crispy. Location is good too, it's a small shop located in the heart of the Bruges old town. Mostly for grab and go. Easy to find, you can't miss it. It was a little bit of a wait, but overall it was a good treat on a cold winter day. Worth a try!

I really enjoyed the waffle at chez albert!! I thought I was more of a brussels waffle than liege waffle until I tried this one. They make each one after you order, so it's guaranteed to be completely fresh, warm, and soft. I got the one with cherries on top (a winter special), and the combination of the sauce and waffle was a star. The exterior was golden brown, crunchy, and drizzled with a slight sour cherry sauce that complemented the sweetness of the waffle. The interior was indeed soft and melted in my mouth. Belgian waffles are a world away from their American counterparts. Rather than being made from a pourable batter, they're freshly griddled from yeast-leavened dough, giving them a chewiness and crispiness that's like no other. Our server at Chez Albert told us that the classic version comes topped with dark chocolate and whipped cream, and this was a delicious, photogenic treat, topped off with a Belgian flag on a toothpick. And the plastic fork that came with the waffle had serrations on one end, so it could be used as a knife for cutting the waffle into pieces--they really thought of everything for optimizing this street food experience! read more
Our first snack stop for the day was at Chez Albert to try their liege waffles. They coin themselves as serving premium Belgian waffles. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around noon). It's a popular spot but we arrived before it got busy. The menu has 16 waffle options along with drinks. You order by picking the number on the menu. - Chocolate liege waffle with whipped cream (#14) (€4,50) - Strawberry liege waffle (#21) (€4,80) - we went with the simplest option. Strawberries and waffle in its purest form. Strawberries were fresh and sweet. Waffle had a decent texture but they aren't made to order (they re-heat them. At least this place has consistent turnover. - Strawberry liege waffle with whipped cream (#23) (€5,80) Decent but I don't really get the hype here. It's small and pricey. read more
I had no idea that there was a difference between the waffles in Brussels, and Bruges. Having to stand in line before they opened their window for business, we were the 2nd in line, but kinda got knocked out of place as soon as the window opened for business. I was surprised to see that there were several waffles already made. The menu is very small with limited choices for topping. For my first time in Belgium, I didn't know what to expect. We have a waffle place in the town I live in that is similar to what Chez Albert serves, but on a much larger scale with more topping options. For my first waffle I just had the dark chocolate drizzled on top. Which was delicious, but lacking something. My daughter had the chocolate, strawberries, and whipped cream. It looked better than my plain ole chocolate one. For my second waffle later in the day, I opted this time for the melted dark chocolate, and strawberries. I'm not a fan of strawberries, but these tasted so good on the fresh warm waffle on a cold day. I gobbled it up, and went and caught the train.... read more

The waffles are to die for here. Warm , soft and delicious. I wish we had been here for more than one day so I could have gone and had more. If you go to Bruges you must go and get one , my family tried three different types and all were great. read more

Nothing is like an authentic waffle from Liege but this one made a good attempt at it. It is located right off the city square and with so much waffle competition it is easy to miss. It is a walk up shop where you order in the window and then walk around to eat it. I ordered a waffle with nutella but they don't have nutella only belgian chocolate. I prefer nutella but can't say no to belgian chocolate. The waffle was good but after living in Liege it is hard to replicate a Liege waffle. It wasn't too sweet but I found the texture off. The sugary exterior kinda got stuck in my teeth. Thats usually the tell tale sign of a waffle that isn't made exactly right. Nevertheless, I have this place at 3 stars. read more

We stumbled upon this place and I remembered reading about it so we gave it a try. It was a good portion to be served and they were fast. However, when we sat down to eat them, my waffle was a little harder than your average waffle. The forks they gave us were not sturdy so it was very difficult to eat it because we couldn't use the fork to cut the waffle. The taste was good and very sweet but nothing spectacular. read more

Chez Albert wasn't really for me, but clearly I am in the minority so maybe don't take my word for it? Maybe I grew up on too many Eggos, but I prefer waffles with a bit of a crunch. Chez Albert's waffles are soft, with flecks of coarse sugar throughout. There are toppings like chocolate, fruits and whipped cream, but no ice cream. To me, the perfect waffle has a little bit of texture and definitely vanilla ice cream. Additionally, the way the waffles are served can get very messy. You receive a flimsy fork and everything is barely contained in a sort of half-paper basket thingy. I got chocolate all over myself before getting annoyed after a couple bites and giving up. Waffling is so hard. read more
A tiny shop on a street connecting the Plaza with the Market Plaza(center of town). It's a take out stand that creates the most delicious waffles ever tasted. Chewy, crunchy truly decadent. We had all three chose a different topping. I got the strawberries with Dark Chocolate Sauce, Pistachios. Just to visualize it in my mind I am salivating! Great snack place. One has to experience it to know what the fuzz is all about. Madame recommended our Dinner place for the night. Good advice. read more
A good, crisp waffle is something to behold. Chocolate is a gift of the Gods and should be in everyone's list for a food to take if you are going to be stranded on a dessert island. Whipped cream is a freak of science, perfectly mixing cream with air. Each of these is delicious in its own right. But combine them at Chez Albert and you have a dessert that will make you stop in your tracks. The wake is not your typical US-style Belgian waffle batter that you pour on to a waffle iron. Instead, it is a rich ball of dough that is flattened into the waffle maker. Add it yields a perfectly crispy and tasty waffle. Now take that waffle and pout molten, Belgian chocolate on top. And then, for just a tad more decadence, put some homemade whipped cream on top. But serving it on a plate or bowl can make it awkward to eat. So instead, serve it on a cardboard platform so you can easily take it with you and, while you're at it, cut half an oval out of the end so that you can easily put that platform right under your mouth. That's the perfection of their waffle: cut off a piece off decadent goodness with your fork, put the platform under your mouth, and slide that perfect dessert bite right on in. It's genius. And tasty genius at that. So stop be Chez Albert, grab a waffle, then find a bench or step to sit on and enjoy an amazing dessert. read more

Delicious waffles!! Picked up some while sightseeing in Brugge and they were super yummy. They have several different options you can opt for. I got the milk chocolate and my husband got dark chocolate. The place smells soo good! It just fills the street. read more
OMG Yes! Now THIS is what I am talking about. Liege Waffles from Chez Albert are a must have here in Bruges! It took us a few attempts at other dessert stops before we decided to settle on this waffle joint for breakfast. We were one of the first customers to arrive and immediately smelled the deliciousness of waffles filling the air. For €2.50, you can get a plain waffle with caramel... and that's seriously all you need. My waffle came with the cutest little Belgian flag on top, making it great for you Instagram food hoarders out there. The waffle was so delicious that I was eating it slowly in order to enjoy it for as long as possible. Now this is what I call amazing street food. There is no seating area so be okay eating on the street and making others jealous of that puffy waffle you've got going on. I know I'd be salivating at the sight. Enjoy your dessert! read more

First time in Belgium. I got to try their waffle. I would say it's very different in a good way. I never tasted waffle that have crumbles of sugar inside. Plus the way they made it isn't how USA make it. We use liquid batter but they use a dough. Kinda like making biscuit. I was impressive. Would come.back to Belgium for their waffle.for sure. They also have so many ways you can dress up your waffle. Would recommend whoever go to Belgium got to try out their waffle. read more

Nobody does waffles and chocolates better than the Belgians! If you're ever in Brugge, stop by Chez Albert and pick up a waffle. It's made fresh and smells sooo good! I went the sugar overload route and got the waffle with dark chocolate syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream. The waffle itself was already sweet and delicious. It had a nice crispiness on the outside with a soft center. Next time, I will keep it simple with the toppings! Grab one to go and eat it in the square! read more

Great grab and go waffle place right off of the Belfry. Expect long lines. I even had to wait in a short line when I arrived at 10am! Fun to eat by the statue in the Belfry. read more

Let's be real, Belgium's waffle game is top notch... and Chez Albert lived up to the hype. Located just off the market to the left of the bell tower, you can find the magic window of Chez Albert where delicious waffles come out of. There are many options for everyone, from milk to dark chocolate, ice cream or whip creamed, toppings or no toppings. The options are endless. If you have never had a Belgian waffle before, expect a crisper and more dense texture than your typical waffle. They are super sweet by themself and tasty with more sweets added on top! I would highly recommend stopping and trying a waffle.. or two! read more
Hot, quick and fresh, you can't get much better than this. I saw a bunch of people walking down the street with these waffles and I followed my nose to Chez Albert. The girl who helped me was friendly and efficient and I got my piping hot waffle with chocolate sauce in less than a minute. It was good and I really contemplated going back for another one! It was around 3-4 euro but it was still worth it. read more

First time in Bruges and have been looking forward to a waffle for months now. Did not disappoint. I just had a plain waffle and a coffee. Both were terrific. The cute guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful. 4 euro for a good coffee and plain waffle? Not bad at all. I went back for a second waffle today. read more

Definitely one of the best waffles in town. Must have if you're in Bruges. This place is always crowded but generally the line moves quite fast. We had the one with whipped cream & the one with chocolate and loved both! read more

Such a good waffle! It was especially good since it was 48F/9C and we wanted to warm up some. The smell outside the place is intoxicating, you just smell waffles cooking from here and s place across the street. Luckily, when we arrived, the line was only about 10 people deep and it moved fairly quickly. Looking at the menu, each option has a number next to it so you just have to order by number rather than by the full description. I got the liege waffle with cherries and chantilly cream. It was delicious!! There were options for strawberries instead of cherries, no whipped cream, chocolate sauce, etc and in all different combinations. I also got a hot chocolate, which was really good when you got some of the chocolate, but it seemed more milk than chocolate. Definitely can't go wrong getting your waffle from here! Highly recommend getting your waffle them go to the square with the clock tower and enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of Brugge. read more
OMG... YUM! This little hole in the wall shop was probably my favorite while shopping around Bruges for a few days. It was also on the way back to our hotel which made it difficult not to stop for a waffle to take away. My nose pointed me the way, as this place is just a little walk up spot, where you can order various waffles to-go or as they say 'for take away.' And the price is right too, for £2.50 you can get a plain waffle, which I think was the best because it actually was made with melted butter and the sides were crispy with sugar, so good! They also had another waffle options, like the nutella waffle... also equally good! The nice part about ordering is you can just say what number waffle you want from the menu, and it's easy without having to speak French or Dutch. If I could I would bottle up the yummy smells of the those waffles! They also put a little Belgium flag in each waffle, so cute. We had to get one last waffle before leaving Bruges and it was so worth it! Can't wait to eat one again! read more
I seriously had a dream about Chez Albert waffles after we returned home from our trip to the Netherlands/Belgium in May. These waffles are to die for. Belgium is basically the capital of all things tasty - famous for beer, chocolate, and waffles. It's a good thing we biked and walked so much, otherwise I would have had to roll onto the plane. If you find yourself in Brugge, definitely make a pit stop to Chez Albert, and try to not inhale the insanely delicious treat. read more
I was in Belgium so I was determined to get a waffle. And not just any waffle. The best waffle. All the review sites seemed to point me to Chez Albert. Chez Albert produces some pretty darn tasty Liege waffles, available in a myriad of fruit and chocolate toppings. Since it's just a waffle stall, you simply queue up and dream up your waffle of choice. It's a popular joint, but the line moves fast. We were served by some friendly teens, presumably working their summer job (probably a hard job given the volume it gets, but oh boy I wish I was able to work a waffle stand during high school...). The stretch is quite busy, so mind the foot-traffic. I elected for the dark chocolate drizzle with strawberries, which was scrumptious but not the religious experience reviews made it out to be. (Unsolicited waffle fact: Brussels waffles are lighter than the sweet, doughy Liege and have crisp right angles, without any interrupted squares. Both are still "Belgian waffles" but they're completely different - and tasty - in their own right). Maybe I went in with expectations that were way too high? The Liege waffles I had in Amsterdam at Metropolitan were jaw-droppingly good - you could really appreciate the cinnamon and pearl sugar mixed into the dough. In comparison the one I got at Chez Albert was more yeasty and breadlike. Not bad (I ate the whole thing with no complaints!) but nothing that I find myself craving. But go get a Chez Albert and wander the streets of Brugge. It's a lovely combination. read more
