Very nice and consistently good quality meat...that's unfortunately very expensive (my only gripe with this place really). Before going to Vito's I never thought that there could be such variations in the taste of a cut of pork...now I know. Service is always warm and friendly. These guys also have a great memory for faces. I only go there 8 or 10 times per year and they always seem to remember me and most of their customers. It's also the only place I know of where I can get my fix of authentic Italian Limonata (not the one made in the States). read more

Chez Vito is one of my favourite butchers in Montreal. Friendly service and great small-talk with the guys when you come in and they will always help you find the perfect steak for you. Honestly, whenever we are in the mood for steak, we'd rather go buy their marinated bavette and cook at home instead of going out. The marinade is very simple (oil, paprika, steak spice, salt, pepper) and not overpowering. With a cast-iron pan and some animal fat for frying, you can make a restaurant quality meal in no time. Another great thing about this place are the wonderful Italian products they import. The other day, Dino had me try some special Mortadella he had imported (the name escapes me). It was soft, perfectly flavoured and melt-in-your mouth good. If you're looking for a butcher in the Plateau/Mile-End, look no further. Chez Vito ranks among the top 3 butchers in the city and his prices are very reasonable. read more

Are you kidding? Chez Vito is a mainstay of the Mile End scene, the place where all the goodfellas pick up their steaks and roasts, their pork chops and shoulders, their scottaditi-style lamb chops, their organic birds, and their hot and sweet sausages. Chez Vito is also an unbelievably friendly family-run establishment--so full of good old-fashioned bonhomie that the place is almost a parody of your classic old-school butcher shop. Whole porchetta is served gratis on Saturdays, and it's especially tasty (and plentiful) when you show up early. Oh, yeah: they also happen to have a pretty impressive collection of taxidermy, if you're into that kinda thing. If they carried any grass-fed meat, they'd get a 6/5. Essential. read more

Great butcher with pre-marinated steaks, homemade sausage, veal oxtail, pork shoulder, ...! If you don't see something in the counter, make sure to ask as they keep a lot in the back. read more

Friendly family run butcher shop with a wide selection meats and Italian groceries. Despite the Yelp categorization, they do not make sandwiches here. You can buy all the best ingredients but sandwiches are not for sale. read more

We ordered the smoked meat trio and the poutine with smoked meat. The smoked meat trio includes a sandwich, cole slaw, and water. I've never had Canadian smoked meat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be a lot smokier, but I'm glad it wasn't. It reminded me of NYC corned beef sammies. The poutine with the smoked meat was also great. This was definitely enough food for two people, especially since the poutine is so heavy. We actually thought we ordered the smoked meat plate, which includes all of the items from the trio, plus a pickle and more french fries. When we asked them about it, we realized that we probably just ordered the wrong thing. However, they brought us out some extra fries (which we definitely didn't need), but it was really nice of them to do so. It was a nice textural change from the gravy-soaked fries we had been eating. Overall, it was a great meal - but definitely not something that I could eat that often.

The smoked meat was salty, oily and expensive, the poutine wasn't the best either. Such a small portion that was expensive, probably because it was in a tourist area. Don't think I'd eat here again unless I can't get out of the older montreal area because there's other places much less oily and more reasonable.

The skewers are all very good but they can be a it over-seasoned and small so keep that in mind as well. I got the cheese corn on the side as well and it was just ok, the cheese was a bit cold by the time I got my food and so it was more a crust than a pull. The service is great and they accommodated a large group on a monday night. A bit slow to get the food since they had 8 soups to make with a bunch of skewers but that's our fault for ordering so much!

We couldn't decide on what to order, so we defaulted to a poutine and a smoked meat platter with extra coleslaw. It felt like being in one of those late night diners with a large menu with lots of choices. The poutine didn't make the honour roll; it didn't fail, but I'd say it was decent and it passed. The smoked meat coming in as the valedictorian was not surprising since it's the namesake of the place. My friends prefer their smoked meat with a little bit of melt-in-your-mouth fat whereas I prefer it lean. Our waitress was kind enough to put both buttery, fatty and lean pieces on the platter so we were all happy. There was mustard ready to go at our booth table, we were ready to slather it on the rye bread. The smoked meat was warm, tender, tasty and delicious! The coleslaw also was good too with a good amount of sourness and garlic flavour. It's an alternative to Lester's, Snowdon Deli, or Schwartz's. I'd definitely return for the cozy ambiance and smoked meat.

Just so everyone's aware, the coffee is great, the baristas are nice, the location is superb, and it all around is exactly the opposite of its tagline haha. Popped by here to enjoy a maple latte (because when in Canada, you have to have maple!) before visiting the art museum. It was delicious. The shop looks deceptively small but is actually quite spacious inside.

All drinks were very good except that the coffee was lukewarm. I had said I only wanted a coffee if it was piping hot and we told it would be. Other than that, it was a fun experience as they offer games to play at the tables. It was clean and the barista was nice.
