I have never really believed in acupuncture, but my visits to Ondol have changed all that. My first point of contact was the receptionist, Helen, who was incredibly lovely when I queried if it was alright to bring a mobile 9 month-old to the sessions. Without hesitation she said, 'bring her in, we all LOVE babies'. When I arrived for my first appointment, Helen was not there, but two of the principal practitioners both took my daughter and looked after her, while I had my acupuncture session. When I said to them after the session, 'I hope she did not stop you from doing your work', they responded with big smiles and said 'it's all part of the service'. My daughter and I have always felt so incredibly welcome there. The atmosphere is one of family and one of everyone banding together, using their collective knowledge to assist you in getting better. Following each fertility treatment I felt incredibly relaxed. It was as if I had just had the most wonderful massage. After weekly fertility treatments including acupuncture, Chinese herbs and moxibustion, for just over three months, I fell pregnant. During my fertility treatment on one occasion I arrived and had crippling back pain. Two of the practitioners worked on me at the same time and I walked out 80% better than when I had crawled in. I was so surprised as physiotherapy had had little effect. After another visit where I had shooting pain through my leg and neck when accelerating the car or turning my head, I walked out able to both accelerate the car and turn my head with full mobility. The range of ailments that acupuncture can assist with is amazing and even a couple of well-placed needles resulted in me breathing freely during a persistent cold. Her insight into Chinese medicine was fascinating and I walked away from each appointment having learned something new.
