The food was alright but rather expensive for the portion size. I arrived around 11:15am and there was only one other table. It took around 20 minutes for the food to finally arrive. The place was maybe 1/2 full around 11:45 but the service went out the window once we received our order. We had waters with are meal and never had them refilled, they never asked how everything was and never came around with the bill. We had to finally go to the till to actually get some service. My wife wanted to take her wonton soup home and this was the only way she could get it done. Even after paying and wanting the soup to take home it was another 10 minutes before finally getting it. Such a nice place to eat, the food is always perfect and the staff make you comfortable. And if you know and Thai language then use it because they are happy to hear it. I can't handle to spicy of food so they accommodate for that. I recommend to anyone stopping by Campbell River to come and eat here. You won't be disappointed. read more

I decided to try Chiang Rai after seeing a gluten free menu on their website and was not disappointed. Delicious food and I had no reaction (I'm celiac). The waitress was very helpful and even talked my son into adding in carrots and broccoli after he asked for no tomato or onions in his dish. He can be picky but really enjoyed his dish. My husband and other child both enjoyed the chicken satay appetizer. read more

We had the lunch special- it was a stir fried rice dish. I wanted to order hot but it was only available mild?? I did end up adding chilli sauce that was on the table, but I'm not sure why I couldn't order the heat level I wanted. It was supposed to have Thai basil in it but it was not at all present, visually or by taste. I expect Thai food to have a balance of flavours- salty, sour, sweet, spicy. The only flavour I got from this dish was soy sauce. The meat component of this dish was very small. I will not come back, I was very disappointed. I saw Chiang Rai one day as I drove past McDonalds on 16 Ave and thought I'd go check it out. Food: I've got to admit that I've lived in Vancouver for the past 5 years and I've been really spoiled with great asian food. At my last apartment there were 3 great Thai restaurants within a 2 minute walk. So my expectations are probably quite a lot higher than most people who live in Campbell River. But that said, I was quite disappointed by the food. We ordered two standard dishes -- a green curry chicken and a Pad Thai -- and while the curry wasn't bad, neither dish was quite right. The Pad Thai was quite bland and just did not look like it should. I don't know if they forgot to add curry paste or what, but it was just not the Pad Thai I know and love. The curry was quite spicy, but a little too salty and not quite creamy enough. I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was something not quite right about the sauce -- perhaps it was too little lemon grass or some other key ingredient was missing. I suggest the chef play with the recipe a bit, maybe head over to vancouver and try a few different thai restaurants to see how it usually tastes. As well, I would suggest not using green beans, carrots and peas as the veggies in the sauce -- eggplant and bamboo shoots are much nicer in a green curry, or even something crunchy like broccoli would be better. Service: Considering that the place was pretty much empty (5 out of 15 tables were occupied), the service was very slow and inattentive. There wasn't one clear server -- 2 people came to take our orders -- and the one tended to get distracted easily. Atmosphere: Meh. Decoration is ok, and restaurant is spacious, but the view sucks (i.e. you can just look at McDonalds). I would recommend adding some nice asian dividers to section off the restaurant into dining nooks to make the dinning experience more intimate. Price: Too much for the quality of the food and service. And geesh, the rent can't be that high. read more

This us simply the best Thai food on the mid island. Talk about flavour!! Holy moley! Every bite is like a flavour explosion in your mouth, that is after you have had to wait at least five minutes for it to cool down enough to eat it. Lol Everything that comes out of that kitchen is piping hot. You never get lukewarm food there. The wait staff is fantastic for helping you decide what to try and don't make you feel dumb if you don't know what something is. read more

3.5 stars for what we had - shared one order of pad see eew, was enough for a light lunch for us. Pretty standard stuff, nice flavor and texture. Service good, free parking. Neat but ordinary decor, and no view but so what? Would eat there again, to try their beef panang and some other dishes. Food in Campbell River is costlier than in Victoria, which is costlier than Vancouver, which is costlier than in Seattle. Haven't tried the Chinese places in Richmond (near the Vancouver airport), which some years ago was varied, authentic, wonderful, and good value. read more

I have eaten here twice, and a friend went yesterday. My first experience the food was great but the service very slow. Considering we had ordered well ahead for a staff lunch it was disappointing. I had pad thai and salad rolls both were excellent. Consider that I don't like wild spices there lol. Second visit was with my niece, who came on my recommendation. My food smelled like dirty socks and was otherwise bland and devoid of any enlightening flavors outside of stale fish sauce?? My niece barely touched her lunch dang and was not happy!. My friend called yesterday she went and did not eat her food the description of the congealed grey noodles in one dish and clumpy orange coconut curry in the other were less than favorable. I would recommend the appetizers. Had the prawns and salad rolls, my friend had the spring rolls all were very good and tasted fresh. otherwise you takes your chances. read more
