The majority of its dresses are made new in the prints and patterns of the 50s. They aren't offering homewares like the Melbourne store does. They have some good options for men and the quality is better then what you are going to get for a similar price in the likes of Cotton On. I stocked up on some much needed items to get me through the winter months. Overall the store is a miniature version of what H&M offers and they are due to have a CBD store at the end of 2015 which will be a similar size to the Melbourne GPO store.

And the nicer suit-y garb, the wool jackets and cream suits and such. But most of it is like a glorified Cotton On, sadly. And where's the big homewares section that Melbourne gets?! They lured us inside with "Sale! 60% off" signs, although we failed to find any sale stock inside. Not that this mattered too much, as the prices here are still reasonably cheap, with most of the re-designed vintage dresses selling for $59. The only problem here? The shop across the road has similarly pretty dresses for $20 cheaper.

Mud Mee is on a corner on King Street, it is very close to the Newtown train station and even about 300m from Erskineville station. I am drawn to the glitzy silver and sequenced dresses they have here. We don't get a lot of that designed locally, so this shop can often be good for a piece that is quite striking. Their stock does change quite a bit and they often have sales racks which can be worthwhile going through. I saw some leather look jodpur leggings for only $25 - they were heavily discounted and yes they came home with me. Worth poking your head in through the door at Mud Mee.

The shop assistant certainly gave me that impression when she greeted me with an arched brow and a quick appraisal of my outfit. Happily, I discovered that the prices are actually quite low in this shop, around the $40 mark, but they reflect the quality of the pieces which were largely made of viscose. Also, I'm not sure what demographic the owner of this shop is aiming at. There is the odd nod to teen wear with cut-off T-shirts and lacy black things which the buyer had obviously thought "hmm, semi-naked, that's what young people like right?" But this idea is juxtaposed by putting dresses and twin sets with mumsy prints and bad colour combinations alongside them. I'd be impressed if anyone found something flattering in here. Maybe I'm being too scathing, but I just found myself a little confused in here.

Don't be fooled into thinking that they only sell sports clothes (although that would be a natural assumption to make, wouldn't it?). Instead, Sportsgirl has a wide range of dresses, tops, jackets, knitwear, skirts, pants, jeans and shorts for women. At first, the hustle and bustle of rummaging shoppers was quite overwhelming. I must've been standing there looking quite dazzled, because immediately a shop assistant came over and asked if I needed any help. As it so happened, I did, and she obligingly whisked me around the store, throwing various items of clothing over her shoulder for me to try on. She delivered me at the threshold of the changing rooms, before introducing me to her colleague, Tim, who would be my stylist. I'm not used to this level of immaculate service, especially from a high street store. Tim rushed to-and-fro, bringing me a whole load of tops and shorts to try on. He was refreshingly truthful about what looked good and what didn't (much more so than friends usually are) and even suggested other stores where I could find similar clothes. My Sportsgirl shopping experience was fantastic - fun, easy and I was taken very good care of. I'll definitely be going back.
