I have had an extensive training abroad and after I moved to Chicago I spent thousands of dollars on all kinds of scams and I couldn't find the same method and approach before my friend recommended me this school!!! I am so happy that he did!! An incredibly fun, welcoming and most importantly SAFE environment. I made so many great friends there that they really feel like a second family to me. Everybody gets an INDIVIDUAL attention, which is so different from other workshops where they don't even remember your name. Sometimes the class will even go later to ensure that absolutely everybody gets on Stage. All scenes and monologues are very carefully chosen for everybody depending on what each individual needs to wok on. The Artistic director of the school is a very well known teacher and actor as well as director in the industry. I am so honored to work with him, he is so far the best teacher and DIRECTOR I have ever had a pleasure to work with. His directions and instruction are so true and so specific, he taught me how to make BOLD choices, how to CONTROL the space instead of the space controlling me, a step by step process on how to break down the character and analyze the script, cold reading techniques (which are so essential for an audition situation), voice and diction, Shakespeare, movement, improvisation, ON Camera skills and so much more!!!! Also I've learned a lot about business side of acting. He teaches his students to have a PLAN and a STRATEGY for their career and inspires his student to believe in themselves and GO for their dreams. I have taken monologue, on-camera, and voiceover and audition classes at Chicago Actors Studio since Jan 2014. I have been very impressed by the quality of the instructor and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. I highly recommend it for both beginning and experienced actors alike. I have a great time in every class, I hope to take more of the classes and progress through the program. Their classes are also very reasonable, when in comparison with some of the other acting studios in the city, and the classes feel more personalized and intimate than some of the more "formal" programs. I have been searching for a process that resonates with my thoughts and feelings about fine acting. I feel I finally found a place that will challenge and nurture me both professionally and as an ever growing individual. Edward Dennis Fogel is awesome and extraordinary teacher. They have great concern for their students on all levels and provide a safe environment to explore and play. If you are passionate and dedicated to your craft this teacher is invaluable. Objective review: Here are the facts. On the first day of class the teacher walked around in socks without shoes - they had a a foul odor. He openly spoke about how his wife left him and other unimportant topics rather than teaching anything useful. Our first exercise was to get in front of the camera and start talking about a personal story. He started snapping at the students when he didn't like what they were doing without giving any direction. By week 2, he made comments about openly supporting Trump. (I don't care if you like Trump or not, this is not the place for that) There is a blatant lack of professionalism, structure, and credibility. Subjective review: I can't stand this place. The teacher presents himself as a washed up actor who probably did a lot of drugs back in the day. He doesn't really teach, he just tells you when he doesn't like what you're doing and then he'll read lines the way he thinks you should have said them rather than helping you discover how to do it. Complete waste of money. Also the facility itself is small dark and musty. Literally take classes anywhere else. read more

10/10 Recommend working with Ed Fogel and the Chicago Actors Studio. He has worked with some of the greatest actors of our time. He has worked in the industry for my entire life (37 years and then some) He is Not for the faint of heart. He will challenge you. He will push you. He is kooky. He is quirky. There will be lots of jokes. Some you may not get but 10 years later. He will help you be better. Not just at acting. But the things he will teach you will directly correlate with life as well. He will teach you things you didn't know you needed to learn. He will have your back as long as your honest and hard working. Ed is one of those people you wake up years later realizing he was one of the most influential mentors in your life. And I only wished I paid more attention. He is the epitome of the lessons we need the most in life rt now. I am not entirely sure I would be the man I am today without his guidance and support. This place is great! I took acting as a craft, as well as voice and movement. And I will be continuing acting as a craft. I have earned so much! Btw, I think every actor needs to take a LEAST one voice and movement class - wherever you can get it. Anyway, and this may be one of the best parts - they are flexible. The class is ongoing. So, you can start at any time and they will work with you at your level. I like that part haha. And if needed, they can work with you on a payment schedule. They also offer career assistance. All of the instructors are paid actors themselves. So, there is that! I remember I used to think that I needed to go to California to study my craft and do my thing. Not so. The Chicago Actors Studio offers a vast array of classes and specialty courses to help the beginning, intermediate and advanced actor acquire the necessary training to help them pursue their acting goal, be it film, TV, the stage or commercials. Add to that a very affordable price and it makes the school an attractive place to learn. Personally, I have advanced from the beginning class to intermediate and have acquired and honed acting skills that will further my career. I've also taken specialty workshop instruction in ear prompter, cold reading and voice and diction to expand my skill set. Never taken a acting class before i came into the Chicago actors studio and let me tell you it is a decision i do NOT regret! They have helped me get out of my shell and be more comfortable on stage and performing in front of my peers. I started off in the saturdays beginners class with Richard Alpert ( who is an amazing teacher, he helped me from the start and made me feel like i was right at home) than after months of work i finally got bumped up to Tuesday night (intermediate) and now working with Edward Dennis who will also make you feel right at home with his humor and making sure your comfortable with the assignments he gives you! I highly recommend this place for anyone who is interested! When I first started I was so shy and would never go up to do scenes , I was afraid to do cold reads , this place helped me get the courage to love to perform!! If you need help on anything they are always there for you ! I did a on camera class with Michelle Burk (known for her role in cone heads and dazed and confused) she was amazing!! I've been to a number of acting schools here in Chicago and the training at the Chicago Actors Studio is by far the best I've ever received. Though classes are done in a group setting each student gets as much individual time as they need to get past their own personal roadblocks and make their career what they want it to be. Actually I'll say this is quite a learning experience! Many a pond many extra hours have I put in on the classes here. To go the extra mile for the growth of my skill, was made to order as long as I had done the work.
