Which everyone who has a lot of missing assignments or failed work is f-d, because those NYS turn to Fs. did i also mention half the junior class of this year failed at least one class or more?? there were only 6 girls that were passing all their classes! most of the girls here are rude, ghetto, disrespectful, and immature. there are mature respectful girls here but for the most part the girls are rude. this school is also money hungry, and are always making new stupid changes like uniform, and requiring for students to buy them, like they have the money. student fees are almost 200 dollars, and for some students they are higher because they haven't payed them. the uniforms are so stupid, considering we never had uniform up until 10th grade. seriously, why care what you dress WHEN YOU ARE HERE FOR AN Education! uniform= professional is not the case! sure we may look professional but the girls are still gonna act like fools, and its just a shame. And this is not a private school, to the person above me. It's a public school! A poor underfunded school that doesn't have a gym or auditorium! and if you think sending your daughter here thinking she wont get pregnant think again. a lot of people in this school got preggo, and some are still in school and some didn't come back. this school is just a hot mess. As far as the not yet grade, if you go to any other school and your child gets and F it stays with them forever. At YWLCS, I failed my freshman year gym class (because I don't know how to swim and skipped class because I refused to learn); However, in my senior year I was able to make that grade up by becoming assistant to the gym teacher. I had to literally teach her class. Come up with exciting physical activities for other students. It was a great experience and I got the opportunity to change a bad grade into a good grade. I received an HP which is the highest grade, therefore raising my GPA. Furthermore, what made me realize I'd been very well educated was when I took my entrance exam for college and scored high enough to get into almost all A.P. college courses at Columbia. No matter how smart you are there are just some things that are not taught in most Chicago Public Schools. I am speaking from experience; this school gives a rare education that you can't find in most schools. As far as what the parents are saying maybe you ought to speak with your child about what it is they are doing. I worked my butt off to make sure I passed my classes. It's just like Life, it's what you make it. The curriculum there is awesome. Maybe the children need better parenting at home in order to perform better at school. Me personally, I was self motivated. I saw that I had an opportunity to receive a state of the art education and I thank God I attended that school. Only other school I can say that I know that can compare curriculum wise is Whitney Young which is a selective school and hard to get in and ONLY accept Gifted and Highly Intelligent students. YWLCS is a lottery school and if your child is chosen despite past academic flaws consider it a blessing. I just think that is shows a lot and as long as your child is willing to learn they can be taught! This is a very advanced school that accepts both advanced and below average students. Which I think is pretty awesome because it gives every one a fair chance to receive an awesome education. The enclosed park outside and the indoor motor room are so fun. Parents are encouraged to come to class on birthdays which makes me feel very involved. Almost 3 years ago my daughter started going to the Stepping Stones class at GLP. Stepping Stones is a wonderful pre-preschool program for kids 2.5-3yrs who aren't able to or aren't ready to start preschool just yet. This is an amazing class for the kids that are a little shy, aren't quite potty trained, or just as an introduction to the classroom environment. Mrs. Eileen and Mrs. Denise are exactly what you'd expect from a preschool teacher. Warm, fun, caring, perceptive, I could go on for days. The kids just love them, loved their class and could not wait to go into the class each time(no separation anxiety here). I was lucky enough to help for the day, and they really create an environment that fosters creativity, learning, exploration, and wonder. Mrs. Eileen also helped me and gave me resources to get my youngest into a great special needs preschool program with the school district. Mrs. Eileen and Mrs. Denise are an awesome team and they also do "All By Myself" and "Little Campers" classes to name a few. My kids still get super excited to see them in the hallway or around the park district. The year when my oldest officially started preschool, her teachers were Mrs. Hanssel and Mrs. Lisa. For 3 year old preschool she had to be potty trained, which I was very nervous about. At home she'd fight me on going to the bathroom or wait til the last minute and have accidents. It was a major power struggle. So her first day of school as I left, I honestly felt like a mother bird pushing her baby bird off a branch. But things went smoothly, she actually had an almost accident, they changed her, and after that there were no more problems. My daughter loved going to school and she got really attached to her teachers, especially Mrs. Lisa. She also came out of her shell and started making friends, all while learning ABC's, counting, colors, and so much more. Mrs. Hanssel really has a knack for making learning a blast. The art projects and class activities she comes up with are super creative and engaging. She is very personable and her weekly newsletters were very informative. For her last year of preschool, my daughter was first with Mrs. Staib MWF, but switched to Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Cheryl's class so she could go M-F. These. Teachers. Are. THE BOMB. My daughter blossomed under their careful attention. She's more talkative and confident than ever before, which blows my mind since she's always been so so quiet and shy. She's learned to write all her letters, and even read a little too. Mrs. Witt greets the kids each day, starts a dialog with them right away. I think it really lets the kids know that they are important but also to leave their cares at the door. I swear, my daughter is insane in the morning and impossible to get out of bed. But as soon as we get to school, she's a different kid! So excited to see her teachers and learn. I knew these teachers would be great because the summer before my kids had camp classes with them. The first day I brought them, I was so afraid my son wouldn't be able to participate and that his special needs would be too much of an obstacle. Mrs. Cheryl was so understanding! She asked a lot of questions to better understand him, made sure he had extra help, and even helped get him a Seaspar aid which has helped him participate in other park district programs. He was so happy to be included! And the camps they come up with are so fun. Each week is a different theme, from art to pirates to dinosaurs. The team at GLP is wonderful. Each teacher clearly loves what they do and it makes this preschool a very special place for the little ones to learn and grow. If they can turn my wild rapscallions into productive members of society, they can basically work miracles.

Please save yourself the stress and your kids the trauma and don't enroll your children here! If I could give this place zero stars I would. There were a few teachers (if they are still there) that were great. In the 6 months my kids were there, there were many staff changes and 3 different directors. Rocio (director) targeted my son because of his disability (sensory issues and Autism). It was so bad we are considering getting an attorney for discrimination because of his disability. She would make up things that he was supposedly doing and call me countless times a day interfering me with my work, but then when either myself or my mom would ask about these behaviors the teachers had no idea or say that it never happened or didn't happen the way that Rocio told me. I was lied to from the beginning. This place is not an environment where you want to leave your kids. I brought my concerns to the director and stated that I was thinking of pulling my kids out more so my son because of unfair treatment and I was afraid that because the teachers didn't know what they were doing and how to handle my son I didn't want them to get mad at him and hit him or do something harmful out of frustration. She said yeah I understand. No reassurance or nothing. Most directors if they heard a parent say something like that they would immediately dismiss it and comfort/reassure the parent. She just wanted my son gone. I believe her son was in the same room as my son and I (as well as my dad and my sons OT) saw him countless times take things from my son or other kids and push and throw, but I guess because he's the directors son he gets a pass. I sent an email to her boss and didn't receive a response so I then sent an email to the VP of operations to which he stated that he told them not to respond to me. While I appreciate that he did try to work with me especially with payment arrangements, it felt as though they were targeting my son and would do anything to get him out. They also couldn't follow simple dietary instructions. My kids were constantly given cows milk (even though they were told about the dietary restriction upon enrollment) and would have diarrhea and stomach pains at least 3 times a week. The teachers would say oh maybe they drank it by accident. Do the teachers not watch when the 2-4 year olds eat to prevent these things from happening? Ms. Emily and Ms. Bri were the best for this school and ever since they left it was a train wreck. I pulled my kids out and they go to a much better place. My son especially is so happy and has had ZERO issues. Makes me think it was just this place and he was being mistreated. Enroll your kids at your own risk, but I definitely don't recommend. Look elsewhere and save yourself the headache.
