Rating it 3 stars and breaking it down even further: 5 stars for the Captain (Captain Mark), the actual 3 hour rental experience, and their ability to handle payments efficiently. Great job gents. 1 star for Peter, the manager who I was in direct contact with for booking. I hosted a birthday party for a large group of my friends and found out the morning of the event that because my party was "too big" that it would be split across two boats. I had the hope that we would coast up and down the Chicago River. Peter's lack of telling me this detail when I booked the event obviously ruined my plans. I spent a lot of money on this rental and in all communications for the 1.5 months leading up to the event, Peter did not mention once that the rental would be for two boats, and not one large boat. I have all email communication between us two to show that as well. He even stated that the capacity was 24 people in multiple emails! To top it off, Peter has decided to go cold on emails and not respond to a simple ask of me asking why I was not informed that it would be two boats and not one. The captains even reached out to me! Like I mentioned, I gave the captains and the experience 5 stars, but Peter needs to learn about proper communication and disclosure. For any group larger than 12, realize that this is TWO BOATS rented together. One is the Tiki Boat shown in the pictures, while the other is just a 12 seater speed boat. read more

We all had an incredible time on this TikiBoat journey for Memorial Day Weekend! We had 13 people on the boat, including the captain (Jeremy) and deckhand (Ryan), and had tons of room to hang out. Lots of space! There was a massive cooler full of ice upon arrival to handle all of our party supplies. Beers, bottles, brats, steaks. The crew was awesome, helpful, chill, and fun. There was a phone charging station with every charger imaginable. There were 3 sound systems throughout the boat that we could put our phones into. There is a grill on the boat as well which we used to grill up hot dogs, brats, burgers, and T-bone steaks. It was great! They take you where ever you want to go. We started by going down the river for an hour or so then went and anchored out on the lake with sweet views of the city the whole time. There's also a water slide which is a blast. It was a bit chilly but I did it anyway. Could't pass it up! Overall, I would highly recommend this TikiBoat experience to anyone who wants to have a great time for a few hours! I expected it to be really fun, and it was above and beyond those expectations. Well done! It won't be my last time with TikiBoat! read more

We went for a bridal shower and it was great. the captain was very nice and the boat is actually larger than we thought from looking the pictures. We went in the river as we didn't want to swim. but I am sure that the slide would have been a lot of fun. I would go back if I had and opportunity. We had a super fun team outing on the Chicago Tiki Boat thanks to a recent Groupon deal. Jeremy was our captain and Luke was assisting; both were fantastic. We had plenty of help packing our food and drinks into the cooler, and Luke even grilled for us. The day was hot (90 degrees or so), but the cool breeze off the lake made it just perfect. A few team members took advantage of the slide, which looked like a ton of fun. The boat has everything you need for a short ride - grill, coolers, floaties, seating, bathroom, sink, music, phone chargers. You name it - they have it! If I had one complaint, it was spiders. They were everywhere, and even ended up on some of us! But that has nothing to do with the Chicago Tiki Boat peeps - nature happens. read more

I rented a boat through Chicago TikiBoat with a group of friends for the 4th of July. When we first arrived there was a lot of miscommunication, our captain was switched a few times and our boat was 45 minutes late. It was hard to get into contact with the rental company so we were worried we got scammed at first. BUT then I got a call from the company explaining the original captain never showed up so the rest of the staff had to scramble and that is why our captain was switched and the boat was late. Once our boat showed up, we had the best time! We absolutely loved Captain Morgan and Diego. They were so fun, safe and really made the experience! We got our full three hours and even a bit of extra time to ensure the time lost was completely made up. It seemed like the mishap was very rare and due to a super busy weekend. I would definitely recommend Chicago TikiBoat and specifically Captain Morgan and Diego! read more

Just finished my first boat trip with TikiBoat Chicago. It was one of the best trips I've had touring the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. I've used Chicago TikiBoat twice, and various boat rental companies across the city a total of 5 times, and these guys are far and away the best. They've thought through every detail that would make the trip enjoyable--from bathrooms to a kitchenette to phone chargers to a grill and more, and they always seem to be adding a few unexpected surprises beyond that. Plus, it's quite a sensation to ride a waterslide from the boat's second story into the lake, and the fact that they've got a driver means you can BYOB without risking any problems. All you have to worry about it having a fantastic time. The staff is great: both drivers we've had have been friendly and laid-back, and most recently our driver was an unexpectedly rich source of information about Chicago architecture. This company is a big joke! We booked a reservation for Saturday June 26th at 3 pm on May 13th. and placed a $ 1,378.92 We were then informed two weeks later by a Melissa that they had double booked and that they were sorry. I asked that the owner call me back as well as refund the deposit. My wife and daughter emailed the company several times and we did not hear a thing. We had to book another boat company in the interim. Today is June 10th and we have yet to receive a call back nor a refund. I tried to call the company directly and when speaking with the owner Pablo we mysteriously got disconnected. I then called back and got a hold of a woman who after hearing me being very upset she too hung up! Finally I tried a third time and got back to the owner Pablo who said he was having internet difficulties but that I would be seeing my refund. Not having the greatest of confidence on those words. Being a business owner myself I have never written a bad review but this company should never be used for any function in my opinion! read more

Had an amazing time last weekend at my best friend's bachelorette party! As the Maid of Honor, I planned everything and of course was a little stressed about everything going smoothly. There was nothing to worry about when it came to the TikiBoat at least! Pablo, Captain Morgan, and our deck hand (ahhh I feel so so bad I can't remember his name now!) were all amazing. We were all set with a giant cooler, 3 pounds of ice, and the grill. -All on the boat and ready to go when we arrived. Having the sound system and the water slide were so perfect. Chicago Tiki Boat allowed us to take a cruise free of charge to make up for the error in communication and the cruise we missed originally. My daughter and her friends had a blast on the cruise. They swam, danced, and enjoyed going down the water slide. The crew was personable and professional. I cannot praise the TikiBoat enough. Captain MarK - with a capital K because he kicks ass - was awesome. I reserved the boat from 8 to 11pm to watch the fireworks and have a "No longer a bacheloretter, party" for my friend. I was very concerned the weather would not cooperate but Captain Mark kept in touch with me all day to tell me about the conditions. Luckily, the skies cleared and we had a blast on the boat. Dancing, tiki drinks, fireworks, what more could you ask for? A squall did come in at the very end of our trip and Captain Mark and his first mate, also a Mark/Marc, told us exactly what to do and they were great navigating through the winds and rain. I HIGHLY recommend the boat and can't wait to go back. Some things to know: There is a bathroom. They have a large cooler on board and they can supply ice. There is ample room for 12 people on the boat. We never felt crowded. There is a grill; however, we did not use it. They accept credit cards and don't forget to tip! We recently rented the tiki boat to celebrate a friend's upcoming marriage. We had a fantastic time! Paul, the owner, seems genuinely interested in making sure you enjoy your time on the boat. As a previous reviewer mentioned, you can bring your own food and drinks on board. There are coolers on board and plenty of space for food and other things. The slide off the back is a great addition to the boat and a lot of fun. You do need to secure your own captain for the boat. Paul provides you with captain recommendations. While we initially had some difficulty connecting with a captain, we did end up going with Ray, who is on the recommended captain list. Ray was a fantastic sport with our bachelorette shenanigans and was a ton of fun. The view of the city is amazing from the tiki boat. I highly recommend both the tiki boat and Ray. We are already planning our trip for next summer. read more

We took this boat out on Tuesday and it was as awesome as it could get. We had a group of 12 people under Captain Morgan and everyone had a great time. Captain Morgan was super welcoming and gave us some info on where we should go and at the same time gave us an awesome view of Chicago too. The boat had everything we needed including a couple bags of ice, coolers, grill, etc. Jumping off the boat and using the slide was so much fun and overall really blew us away. Monroe Harbor is very easy to get to as you can just walk east from the Monroe red line.The owner, Pablo is the most friendly and personable person you will ever meet and his captains are the BEST! It's no wonder that there are so many others that try to copy this establishment. You can bring your ipod to blast your own jams as you relish the views of the skyline from the lake point of view. Whoa. This front start to finish was a train wreck. Charlsie at Chicago Tiki Boat called me 2 DAYS before my rental and told me that the boat we rented got quintuple booked for the time we wanted by another employee so she just refunded me my money. I was like, "uh, can you maybe try to find a solution to this problem rather than just canceling my rental 2 days before for something that was 0% my fault". After being asked and 4 hours of frantically trying to find a solve on my end for my sister's bachelorette party Charlsie did find a boat. Great, now we can move on. WRONG. I contacted them was request a discount due to the insane amount of stress and inconvenience and was DENIED. WHAT. The absolute WORST customer service. Ok, so we all get on the boat and have a nice time other than the CAPTAIN SLAPPING MY SISTER'S BUTT on the boat and staring at us while we danced. WHAT. SO GROSS. I contacted Charlsie and Pablo (so called manager or owner) and they didn't care one bit. So, to recap, Chicago Tiki boat is unprofessional, rude, terrible managing their company and believe that sexual harassment from their employees is ok. read more

What a bad experience! This was to be part of a bachelorette celebration! We were at Monroe Harbor, waiting for our boat to arrive and after several calls finally got through to be told the boat was broken. Were they going to let us know?We walked another 2 miles to get a round of drinks they treated us to for our trouble and then miraculously found another boat for us to ride on. It was difficult to get on and off the boat and the ride was only half the time they promised. Disappointing to say the least. We should have received a discounted rate! I will not drive the tikiBoat again until safety concerns are resolved. My daughter recently had her Sweet 16 party aboard the Tiki Boat, and we had a wonderful experience!! Pablo, the owner, is a great guy and is very friendly and flexible. Our captain, William, was a laid back and personable guy who handled our group of teenage girls like a pro! Despite rain ... spells of DOWNPOURING rain (and even some passing thunder showers), we all had a blast aboard the Tiki Boat!! When it did rain, we were all able to fit under the covered area... a little squishy, but we did fit! We brought our own food and music on board, and the kids danced, swam, and slid (on the amazingly fun and fast 2 story slide) for 3 glorious hours. They even had some floaties that the kids used to hang out on while bobbing around in the Play Pen. I would VERY highly recommend everyone renting the Tiki Boat for any occasion... Steve manned the ship and took us around Navy Pier and out to the party cove spot. He is a great captain and kept the entire party safe and provided great recommendations on where to go. Fun outing for daughter's 16th birthday party. The weather was a bit cool for mid July, but we still had a great time. Only 2 small glitches... grill did not work at first but they were able to fix. I have never written a Yelp review before, but after this outing, I wanted to do something for these guys to show how much I really appreciated everything they did. What an amazing trip! I don't know why someone didn't come up with this idea a long time ago. Having lived in Chicago as one of the "boat-less" masses for most of my life, I recently discovered and booked a trip with my friends aboard the TikiBoat. What can I say? EVERYONE should experience this. First off, the boat is incredible. Water slide, TONS of room, CLEAN bathroom (which my girlfriend was pleasantly surprised to find) and the friendliest staff I think I have ever encountered in any business. While I'm sure it would be tempting for anyone working in this type of business to take their job lightly, our captain and his crew-member were absolute professionals and catered to us far better than anyone else ever has. What makes these guys the best is that they are not just professional, but fun because they clearly enjoy their jobs. These guys know the lake and know where the places to "see and be seen" are. The Play Pen (I think that's what it was called) was a blast and I always wondered what it would be like to be out there amongst all those fun people on those gorgeous boats!!!!! We felt like rock stars all day! If you haven't checked these guys out yet........you need to do it. We are already planning our next outing before the season ends.
