Chicken Finger Meal - SO crispy!
    Nicole C.

really fast service despite 4 other parties being in the restaurant. there isn't much on the inside, but the food speaks for itself! the chicken is fresh and hot and the sauces are all delicious

    Tenders, rice & eggroll combo

There is a sign on the window saying that the restaurant's most recent food grade is available to view only upon request. That should tell you everything you need to know about CnR. In the interest of trying out a new place to do a Yelp review on, I ignored the sign and walked in. I was greeted by a group of happy young ladies eager to take my order. They have a daily special or you can order of their menu. You have a choice of chicken, chicken, or chicken and rice. Looking back into the kitchen, I saw trays upon trays of..you guessed it chicken. I chose the chicken tenders over the wings. Pricing is super cheap and the portions are huge. The chicken tenders are big, battered and fried crisp. The outsides looked ok but some of the chicken didn't taste as fresh. You definitely need to eat these dunked in some sauce, they don't have much flavor and can be dry. I tried duck sauce, spicy sauce and sweet and spicy sauces with the packets of duck sauce coming out ahead. My meal came with 2 scoops of rice and an eggroll. I skipped the eggroll, it looked overdone and the rice was also flavorless. I finished about half of my combo and was going to put it away but my stomach began to grumble. Took me the rest of the day to feel normal after this meal. So if you are willing to take the risk for some cheap prices and have an iron clad stomach, this is the place for you.

Best deal in town for chicken n rice.

The Lemon Pepper wings had a solid flavor but could've used a bit more seasoning to really make the lemon and pepper pop. They were a tad watery but still delivered on taste and left me satisfied. The Mango Habanero wings had a delicious balance of sweetness but lacked the spicy kick you'd expect from a habanero flavor. That said, they were still enjoyable and worth trying again. The fries for both combos were absolutely on point--crispy, golden, and seasoned to perfection! Service was friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting. This is a drive-thru spot, but they also offer parking spots where you can sit and enjoy your meal in your car, which is a nice touch. Would I come back? Definitely! Just a little tweak on the seasoning and spice levels, and this place would easily get a 5-star review.

They are also playing electronica music very loudly so it's kinda made me anxious. The food is just so bland. My lemon pepper wings tasted sweet and zero seasoning. No lemon flavor or salt or pepper or garlic or anything. The Philly was passable. It's one of those standard chipped meat frozen meat package type sandwiches. The combo with wings came with a drink but no fries so my total was nearly $20. I tried to enjoy my food outside and the worker kept smoking her e-cigarettes which was flaring my allergies and kept getting in my mouth as I ate. Would NOT recommend! Also the bathroom is in the back of the building and it actually just an opening to the kitchen to the outside which was also disturbing to me that the outside was exposed into the kitchen.

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

He gave us great information about the menu and was very attentive. For drinks, I ordered a Sri Lankan Milk Tea and a watermelon juice. My daughter had the Dalgona coffee. All of it was incredible. The juice was super fresh and adorned with a slice of watermelon. For starters, we each had a vegetarian patti. The heat builds adding to the savory flavor journey the pattis take you on. For our entrees, I had the Sri Lankan vegetable soup and it was the most comforting, delectable soup I think I have ever eaten. I have my daughter a bite and she was also wowed. Believe me, we've eaten some soup, so this is saying a lot. I dream of the soup now. It's an issue. I'm looking forward to going back for a fix next week. They make it fresh, so as the server warned us, allow twenty minutes for them to prepare yours. My daughter had the chicken zesty bowl and loved it. It does contain shrimp--very nice looking shrimp. The ambiance was fairly quiet and a unique blend of casual and formal. Hard to put a fine point on it. It was clean though some of the furniture was a bit worn. Nothing that detracted from our experience. Everything tasted memorably amazing. The service was superb. Go get hooked. I am.

While I do understand it is family owned and nonetheless amazing food, waiting 20 minutes just for waters kind of offset us. Waiting for fresh food was understandable, and when it DID come out they were great dishes. We ordered the Family Lamb and Beef for 5 people, all the sides (Lentils, Beets, and Kale) were great and complementary to the entree. My personal favorite was their Mango Lassi, one of the best ive ever had.
