I found several of the old stand-bys who were obviously still putting out decent pies; then I noticed Santa Lucia and was intrigued by what seemed to be an authentic dedication to a quality pie. Even though they were a little more expensive I didn't mind if they backed up what they promoted; attention to quality. I can tell you right now, I was not disappointed; I went to the restaurant to pickup my order and the staff were very personable, they even tossed in a small, last customer of the night bonus (a little topping booster). They have a good selection of sandwiches, soups, and pizza. I had the Canuck Pizza, which consists of capicollo, bacon, and drunken mushrooms. The pizza dough itself wasn't anything to be amazed over, but the toppings were delicious, especially the mushrooms, which had a very unique taste that I didn't expect at all. These are the highlights of my dinner experience ordering pizza from them for delivery: 1) The lady on the phone who took my pizza was polite, kind, and friendly. I even asked if she can put ground black pepper on the side and I was sure (as in LA happens a lot) she would forget about it. Guess what? She didn't and sent me a container with fresh ground pepper (not even those old bagged paper ones). 2) The guy who did the delivery was also very polite and kind. He said that their service delivery was shut down tonight bc it was too cold (-40C), so he brought it directly from Pizzaria himself. Well, thank you very much for that. I wasn't going to go out either, so thank you for saving me from staying hungry. 3) Last but not least, the pizza was beautiful. Lots of toppings, whole wheat well balanced thin crust, yummy and yummy all the way. As I was eating it I thought this pizza was better than any pizza I had in Los Angeles. All these years in LA, the pizzas are either burnt crusted, or salty, or no flavor, or have weird toppings that don't go together, or are too doughy or too thin, etc. It has been a long time since I truly enjoyed having a well-balanced pizza. ALL staff was in the back, despite there being 3 other occupied tables in the lounge and 1 in the restaurant. I was told in order to place a takeout order I had to show proof of vaccination (that is, despite the provincial order, a serious violation of federal & provincial health privacy as well as an international human rights violation...as in: you've opened yourself up to a lawsuit every time your staff asks for proof) just to enter the lounge. I tried to place my order, pasta Tuesday, and was told that it's not available for takeout. I've had it for takeout at this location twice in the past month as well as at others in the province. Instead of the special price I was told it was going to be $24.XX. Service has gone down hill at an alarming rate as has the respect for paying customers. Enforcing an illegal health order might seem wise at first glance, but you're losing business and risking lawsuits.
