For whatever reason, there are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Byron, this being less conspicuous than the others as it's hidden in an arcade off the street and amounts to a window with a couple of outdoor tables and possible a random weiner dog wandering around (sorry no pictures). Going with the hidden away one turned out to be a good choice though.
They have a variety of tacos and some other sides that seemed awfully desirable, but which I did not want to have to eat myself (fries, tortilla chips, and such). Most of their tacos are unsurprisingly meat-based, which clashes a little bit with Byron's vibe, but lest one think they did not put effort into the vegetarian options, they are great. Their veggie taco was a great variety of vegetables, perfectly cooked and with a zingy tomatillo sauce. The other one I got was something called a "tempura halloumi", which sounds ridiculous (and very Australian really; halloumi is a fryable Mediterranean cheese virtually unheard of in the U.S. but ubiquitous here, and they do like their Asian fusion), but it tasted absolutely fantastic. As much as skipping the fries was probably a good decision, the food on the whole was in the category of what I'd call craveably good.
The owner is Mexican and friendly, which makes sense. They aren't cheap for tacos, but they are overflowing and delicious and I don't mind a vacation indulgence. It's also handy that you can just buy little things and spread yourself around some of the other food vendors. My main complaint is that they didn't have beans. I would definitely give this place a shot if visiting Byron. read more
