I really liked the braised tofu as one of the proteins that I got. I highly recommend that! There are so many delicious options to choose from, and I love that the banchan changes regularly so there's always some variety. It honestly feels like such a great value for what you get. Seasoned seaweed package comes with each plate. First, we chose a base: white rice , purple rice or salad. You can get 2 as a half portion. Second, choose a protein or 2 half of the proteins. Salmon was extra and comes with the sweet sauce. Third, choose any 5 Banchan. Fourth, we get a free sauce. We ordered extra: spicy Tteobokki (Rice Cake) and Tuna Kimbap. We did not order any drinks. The service is slow but friendly and helpful. The food definitely is filling even if it doesn't look like a lot. The banchan is fresh, but I think it can taste like it's been sitting out all morning. The chive jeon i got with my plate was cold, and I wish it wasn't. I know it's because of the chiller to keep all the other sides fresh! The odeng/fishcake tastes a little fishier than I prefer, but I enjoyed it. Their kimchi is really fresh, and has great flavor, including their cucumber kimchi. I like their bulgogi more than the spicy pork. All plates come with a soup and a side of seaweed. The tteokbokki is a little spicy and sweet, but tastes amazing. I didn't order the kimbap because it looks a little old, maybe made early in the morning, or it looks dry. The rolled egg and soybeans were good but the soy glazed chicken and spicy chicken balls were hard. Heating them up the next day, they became unflavorable. I also didn't like the Japchae and I felt the kimchi was old. Maybe it was just not my day to try it, so I'll go and try it again. I came for the soft opening here as I was happy to hear that there was a Korean dosirak (Korean bento) place that feels close to home cooking. You build your own dosirak box, which will come with rice, soup, several side dishes and 1-2 protein options - total of 7 options to eat with rice (meaning behind their name) There are tables available for customers to dine in, otherwise, food is served in packed in to-go dosirak box. For the price, you are getting a lot of food. I did come here near closing time so some of the options were sold out for the day. I love that they plan on having different side dishes each week. That will definitely get customers to want to come back to try different combos of dosirak. Food overall was nice, felt closer to home cooking like I've mentioned, however there are some notes to take here to improve for the grand opening: *Their fried dishes were dry and hard. I am keeping in mind that I am eating food that probably has been sitting for a while and they weren't going to be frying fresh food at the end of the day. The flavor is nice but as someone who has TMJ, I could not finish the bacon rice cake and the spicy fried chicken - it was too hard for me to chew. I would avoid eating fried items when coming in close to closing hour. *Having the sauce option was nice, but it felt unnecessary to use it for the most part since almost all of my dishes were seasoned. The sauce is nice to have if you get grilled salmon and/or tofu steak, but you don't really need it for the rest. Everything else was solid, I would like to still come back for another try, perhaps for lunch next time to see if the quality would be a lot better during prime hours. I'd rather come here if I want dosirak though because I'm tired of the same dosiraks from Korean markets that are also mediocre in taste. From warm welcome by staff upon entry to fresh selection of genuine korean food featured on the serve top (à la Chipotle Korean style?), every bit of experience was positive and gave great experience. I saw this place on IG a while ago and I love side dishes so much so it seemed like the perfect spot for me! After a trip to the DMV, we realized it was right nearby so we wanted to try to get some food here! It was in a very small plaza area and the inside was pretty small as well, with some seating and diners around, some of their custom dosirac bento boxes being set up as well on the side since it was still pretty early in the morning. The people working the counter were very friendly and happy! There was a "Mrs. Chilban" it seemed too that was helping at the register! That day for lunch I wanted to try their fried chicken options and some bulgogi along with nearly all their sides split up between two boxes and an order of vegetable-heavy kimbap. Everything was delicious with some soup on the side as well! My only hope for changes are that maybe the chicken could be crispier and maybe a box can be made for banchan/side dishes on the side? I am very interested in getting just one of each of every side dish for the week to eat with rice, but the slots in the box can be a bit small for some of the dishes. I am a big fan of international cuisine. I found this spot while returning some Amazon packages. It's basically a big Togo box in a box form. You can get 1-2 proteins, and 5 sides (changes weekly) with your choice of white or purple rice.
