We are regular customers at Chile Peppers. Usually the food and service is great. Came for dinner tonight & was considering ordering a Steak Quesadilla. Oftentimes in Mexican restaurants the steak can be chewy and I don't like chewy steak. For this reason I asked the server if the steak was chewy & he said not at all. With his assurance I ordered the steak quesadilla. Take a couple of bites and it's chewy and I'm having to spit out pieces. I tell the server it's chewy and ask to swap to a chicken quesadilla. They said no problem. I get the check and I'm charged for a steak quesadilla and a chicken quesadilla as well as peppers twice & onions twice. I call the server over & he says his manager said there was nothing wrong with the steak & that I was being charged for both. The server was apologetic & said he tried to change their mind but he could only do so much. This owner prefers to come out of the kitchen and aggressively wave her hands in the face of her customers and yell at customers who dare mention to their waitress that they did not receive the entree they had in fact ordered. Mayte will be accusatory and threaten customers with video footage from inside the restaurant to "prove" that it wasn't the waitress who got the order wrong but YOU the customer who was wrong and must be up charged if you'd like to actually receive the dish you ordered in the first place (as witnessed by the party dining with you). It will escalate to a point of Mayte threatening the police, which after speaking to other locals and reading older reviews, is her signature move. You will finally have the realization that this woman has no interest in discourse or whether or not you and your friends have a pleasant experience in her establishment. Instead, you will ask her repeatedly to please calm down and leave your table so that you and your party can finish up and get the heck out of there ...never to return again. Strangely, after about a 10 min pause, Mayte will return to the table with a "peace offering" of the dish that was actually ordered... after receiving some sort of evidence that the waitress DID get the order wrong as had been initially described....but ...you won't eat it, choosing to be cautious, and will request the check and go have drinks with friends some place else: any other place. read more

Best Mexican food I've had on the island since moving to SSI. I loved the atmosphere, especially sitting in the bar area, and the extremely friendly and attentive staff. Huge menu with lots of a la carte options which I love. Meals are very large and big enough to split. Chips and salsa are free and I highly recommend not missing out on the habanero sauce, it is unreal and the best I've ever had. Fully stocked bar with Mexican beers on tap. The place we were staying at recommended this place to us. As soon as we sat down, we were brought water, chips, and salads. The server was very nice. The tables are all hand-painted by a local artist, so take time and look at them if there aren't people sitting at them. Our first round of drinks was the prickly pear, a house, and two of the jalapeño margaritas. For the second round of drinks, the friend who ordered the prickly pear called the same as did I with the jalapeño margarita. One of my friends switched to the mango and habanero margarita. It was too mango for me but I liked the kick of the habanero. After our second order of glasses, even the bartender came by to ensure we were enjoying our drinks. After we had a little bit of our drinks and some of the warm chips and salsa, we started with queso. It was excellent and large which made us very happy. Recent visit to Taco Tuesday was very unimpressive. First off, the "deal" is two ground beef tacos for $5.99. The regular price for two of the same is $6.22, a saving of twenty three cents! Wow. While Happy Hour is 2pm-6pm, it only included a 2 for 1 watered down Margarita for $5.75, and they explicitly let you know "that's per person, you can't share!", like I'm 4 years old. No other beer or liquor is discounted during Happy Hour, and the house wine - yes, the house wine, was $8 for junk. Now to the food. Some of our party ordered steak taco's and they were fine. Nothing exciting, just fine. One person ordered a ground beef burrito, and get this, if you want enchilada sauce poured on the top, it's an extra $2.99. So, it arrives on your plate, cut in half, and that's it. It's got refried beans and rice in it, but I could barely taste the beef. It lacked any kind of distinctive spicing or flavor. The Monterey burritos I buy at the supermarket taste better than this. The service was ok, but I wouldn't describe our waitress as a people person. She did was what required. It's been about a year since we were there, and we didn't enjoy the prior food experience either. Though it came highly recommended, we were highly disappointed then, and again now. In the end, it's primarily about the food and the taste. It's simply not up to par in our opinion, and there's no way I'd even associate the word "authentic" with Chili Peppers. The best thing I can say is it was quiet and not busy. How anyone can rate their food above 3 stars is a mystery to me. It's just so generic. If you're on St. Simons Island, go to Blue Bay Mexican (no, I don't work there), not Bubba's or LaPlancha. If you're in Brunswick, Tacos Don Pancho is the best! I am a regular customer at this restaurant and every time I come to eat this one lady (who I suppose is the owner) makes it harder to return. Since she is not a waitress or hostess, I do not have to interact with her often, but every time I have has been agonizingly unpleasant. Not only have I been verbally attacked in a seriously unprofessional manner, but I have watched her to do the same to other customers as well. She is bluntly and unnecessarily rude to paying customers for the most insignificant, unavoidable, and ridiculous things. From overcharging customers for not ordering enough food (what???) to refusing to take any responsibility regarding the quality of the food, she really knows how to mess up a dining experience. If that wasn't enough, she has also forced me to abandon my table many times immediately after I finish eating (mind you, I was literally just sitting at the table to finish my drink before I left). I understand that there are other customers, but it is incredibly unprofessional to directly ask a paying customer to leave the restaurant. Also, most of the time there are plenty of table open so I've drawn the conclusion that she is just straight up rude. One more thing regarding my previous statement before I wrap this up, while she is making customers leave, I have seen her sitting at a tables with big groups and being obnoxiously loud so she needs to take her own advice. It is safe to say that she needs a serious lesson on manners and customer service if she wants anyone to return to the restaurant. read more

Hoy yo era un cliente y salí maltratado por esta señora que debe ser empleada del lugar (Sería terrible enterarme que puede ser la dueña, un dueño sabe lo importante que es un cliente que va a dejar en su negocio $1 o cientos.
