From the troubleshooting to the thoroughness, Chim Pro is the very best. We have an older home with a double chimney that wasn't used much by the last owners. After deciding to replace our gas log set with a newer, more efficient model, I also wanted to make sure that our chimney was in good shape. Our promised install date of "two to three weeks" became "two to three days" and I was pressed to find someone quickly. Even though it was a holiday weekend and he was technically off, Paul reached out and was able to squeeze me into his schedule the next day, even though he was booked out for weeks. He appreciated that I was trying to be proactive and wanted to help. He showed up on time and quickly diagnosed that the sweeping I requested wouldn't be needed. Instead, he checked the exterior of the chimney and made some recommendations on preventative actions - stressing that the need was not imminent. I was only charged for the inspection and was provided a lot of helpful tips. I do not normally write reviews. In fact, I think this is the first yelp review I've ever written! But I had to write this one. I live in an older remodeled home. On a very windy morning, I heard a ~CRASH~ that sounded like my roof caving in, and I looked outside and realized that my chimney cap had flown off in the high winds from the third floor down the front of my house. This particular chimney does not have a flue and so now, my home was wide open to squirrels, bats and other critters who frequent the oak tree next to my chimney (on a third floor, high on a hill). With less than a week before Christmas entertaining and hosting, I needed to get this fixed! I called about four companies, and none could come to my home same-day. When I called Paul, of Chimpro, he took the time to talk through the problem, told me what he would do to fix it and told me he was fully booked but that he'd try his best to work me in and that he'd call me back if he found an open slot in his already packed schedule. In the meantime, another company agreed to come out the same day. That company had poor customer service, and arrived in a car with a different company name on the side. I got a weird vibe. In fact, during my interactions with them, 3-4 different company names were used (so clearly these were contractors, and not a small business). They charged me $69 just to look at the issue. Told me they didn't have the parts, but they could come back in 2 days and the total price would be $1100 to replace the chimney cap. In the meantime, Paul called back and worked me in! I could tell he was very busy with standing clients, but that he actually wanted to help me! His technicians arrived and couldn't have been more friendly, good-tempered and mannered. They immediately got to work, fixed my problem and then Paul noticed another problem and they fixed that, too. The best part was that I felt Paul was a straight shooter. No scamming, no swindling. An honest, knowledgeable business man. Felt like I was being dealt with by a trustworthy, honest person. He was efficient and professional but also easy-going and personal. Josh and Kyle from Chim Pro in Alexandria VA saved me at least $1,800 dollars from the chimney guys with the "free inspection". Yesterday, the other guy (OG) got out of the truck and told me I obviously needed a new chimney lining; happens all the time he said. My problem the 11 year old GAS furnace was now producing condensation in the STAINLESS steel chimney. The condensation was dripping into the accessible attic and damaged the ceiling below; could see where the water was leaking from the seams just below the point where the chimney exited the attic. Any chance the chimney is blocked? No problem for the last ten years. OG said the problem was likely a CREOSOTE buildup or possibly rust through holes in the chimney. OG went on to explain the the chimney was probably too big and the MASONRY was likely breaking down and definitely needed a new stainless steel liner. Happens all the time he said. I suggested the condensation might be caused by a blockage in the chimney that caused the hot pipe to sweat since the hot air could not escape. Not likely OG said. What might cause such a blockage? Bird's nest I suggested. IMPOSSIBLE! There is a cap on the chimney. How about humoring me and check the chimney from the top I suggested. Reluctantly, he grabbed his 18 ft ladder. "That's not going to reach.".. It is fine OG said. We got to the back of the house and he moved toward the fireplace brick chimney on the low roof. I say again ... the gas furnace steel chimney 30 feet off the ground. It became very clear he was not fond of heights or ladders and I had already lost confidence in the company. Clearly the objective was to sell me liner, physics be damned! Just because I have a good education and live in a nice house OG assumes I don't know squat about how things work...or in this case don't. In contrast, Kyle and Josh from Chim Pro arrived exactly on time. Kyle climbed up the ladder, pulled off the chimney cap and......wait for it! Found a bird nest stuck in the chimney preventing the hot gas from escaping. The team worked to clear the blocked chimney and were very professional in explaining what they were doing. In summary Paul the manager and his team of Josh and Kyle provided great service. The blockage was hard to get at and they humored me by tossing a ball into the chimney, at my request, to prove the blockage was clear. The inspection and service fee was reasonable for 1.5 hours of effort. Quality work and professional service. read more

Due to weather, the chimney work could not be done immediately. Paul kept me up to date regarding weather predictions and their ability to perform the repairs. Once they were finally able to do the work, they put down tarps inside to protect the room, wore shoe covers and masks, and even looked out for and moved a lamp they thought might be damaged. Paul and the team came back the next week to check on the water sealant on the chimney since, despite best efforts, it proceeded to storm after their visit. Just had my chimney swept. I was so impressed with Paul. They responded right away for my request for an appointment and I was able to get one very fast. Paul called the day before and that morning as a courtesy. I had gotten a groupon but will definitely continue to use them in the future cause their rates appear to be very reasonable. My chimney was terrible and he had to take two goes at it. Seeing all the creosote that came out I would have expected to get at least some dust in the house but there wasn't a speck.
