Ok, I admit, I live immediately outside of NYC and I think that if I leave the area, I will never find decent pizza or Chinese food! Total closed minded snob! My Mom moved to this area and she doesn't get out. She wanted Chinese and this was not far off my route. I may drive up from home next time I want Chinese! I picked dishes she liked and we were both very pleased! Very tasty! The lo mein had a generous portion of pork. The wonton soup was very flavorful with a lot of meaty wontons and some yummy greens. We just moved to the area and were searching for a good Chinese spot! This restaurant has quickly become our go-to! The service is very fast and has been consistently good! The food is extremely good as well. I love the crab rangoon and lo mein! My partner has been getting the General Tso's plate and has enjoyed it every time! Had some of the most delicious Chinese food from here last night and absolutely love that they deliver. I even called at 5:30 which I feel like is prime dinner time and they still got my food to me in under an hour. Some favorites that you absolutely need to order: chicken and broccoli, the PLAIN chicken wings (something about them is addicting), vegetable lo mein & shrimp fried rice, egg drop soup (it's so good). Probably some of the most very basic things you could get but this is definitely one of my most favorite places and the food is always so good. read more

My husband and I got take out from here today. He got sesame chicken and I got pork lo mein and pork fried rice. And I've gotta say, it was some of the best Chinese food that we've ever had! Super fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable. The service was excellent. There aren't any tables though, so be prepared to bring it home lol. The ambiance is perfect for takeout. Have been ordering from China Gourmet for several years. Food has always been very good. Not our most recent order. The wanton soup was excellent. The egg rolls were OK, a bit soggy at the bottom. The lo main noodles were a bit overcooked. The worst was the fried rice. It was overcooked and very soft. It had also been stirred to much,as the rice kernels were broken and stuck together like mush, not light and fluffy whole kernels. It appeared to be made in advance and heated up. We have been going to China Gourmet for a couple of years now. It's convenient, fast, and reasonably priced for anyone living in Riverside. They recently moved to a new location in the plaza close to the Carousel. The new location no longer offers the option to dine in which is fine with me since I never ate in anyways. The food for the most part is pretty good, but there were a couple of times that my order wasn't made right. I don't like to complain so I let it slide the first time without saying anything. The second time that it happened, I called to let them know and they were very professional, understanding, and quick to correct the order for us. Their service is top notch for a takeout place. They are always very nice and courteous. There aren't too many Chinese restaurants in the Riverside area. It seems most people either go to this one or Lee's down the street. I personally prefer China Gourmet over Lee's and would recommend it to anyone in the area looking for some Chinese food. read more

The food is always good here. Never disappointed also arrives within a decent amount of time if having it delivered.

I Refuse to eat here again until the disgusting fish tank is removed from the restaurant. Those fish are too big for the tank and the water is brown. I won't support a place that keeps animals in their restaurant in that condition. Food isn't that great anyway. Not a loss in my book. I understand if it's a culture and aesthetic thing but it could be handled much better. I hope you consider fixing this. It is with a sad heart that I have to part ways with my family's favorite local Chinese restaurant. We have ordered here at times at least once per week and are familiar with all of the delivery drivers. Unfortunately I cannot accept the overly-inflated price increase. I understand businesses sometimes have to increase rates, but it should definitely be within reason. Maybe. $.50-$1 would be acceptable, but it looks as if most menu items have been raised at least $2+ more- even the appetizers!!! We spent good money here because we enjoyed the food and kind staff. The drivers are always prompt and friendly. It is also the same when dining in. Unfortunately, when we order Chinese takeout we are not looking to spend nearly $50+ (including tip) for a family of two adults and one child. I wish this were not the case. I can just go eat fresh seafood nearby so it'll be worth the $50+. read more

I was a regular for way too long several years ago because it was very convenient. I should have ventured out a bit so I could realize how incredibly terrible the food is at this restaurant. I was in a jam a few weeks ago b/c my regular Chinese restaurant was on vacation. The price was so ungodly high for what I got. The bag was huge, but 75% of it went into the garbage. The Crab Rangoons could not have been more greasy. I like sweet, but the filling was gross and WAY too sweet. Literally everything was disgusting. I don't care how desperate I am...next time I'll starve before going back to this place. At the risk of sounding like a plug, there is another very small Chinese restaurant on 44 that is OUTSTANDING. This was hard to come to terms with. Accepting that this restaurant would have to be reviewed. Writing in a place like Yelp warrants the typical cartoon character of a place to eat. A hip new hot spot for socialites to jab and exchange gossip. But China Gourmet does not breed false hope. China Gourmet is a restaurant I frequent. I First heard of it through my Grandma, the casual friendly owner who visits the deli kind of situation. I don't think she'll ever live up her grandsons didn't like it when she first had them try. Nevertheless the food is delicious. I remember the dining room in a distant memory but for now the takeout foyer is all I can grasp. It's a quick experience, too fast to be frank. A cadmium Rug, A bountiful fish tank, and weeping orchids in the window. The letters look like metal- heavy set, strong and stable. China Gourmet surrounds nothing. A convenience center and an empty spa fit to return in 2016. I never get sick which is rare for me. it's so often if a restaurant is frequented enough it will bite you. Sometimes in the form of some mold in your jelly packet or piece of raw pork at the bottom of your salad. Remember back in the day when it was the good old Rickshaw Inn. Hasn't changed much inside. How's the food? Well, I've had good, and I've had bad. Chicken fingers are big, and yummy. Sometimes a bit overcooked, but generous. I have sent them back more than once. The waitress said they cook them in batches and drop them in the fryer to reheat. A lot of Chinese restaurants do this. Consequently, you get a lot of overcooked chicken! Boneless spare ribs generous and very good. My Brother loves them. The best he says. He likes the mixed vegetables, and lo mein. I have had both and they are the usual. Canned water chestnuts and mushrooms. Again, commonplace. Ok. They have Hong Kong style chow mein with fried noodles. I like that. I have had Kung pao chicken twice. It is very greasy and would not recommend it. General Tso beef was gummy and strangely soft. The waitress said they use special powder (I'm guessing baking soda) to tenderize it. Unpleasant, and very sweet. I sent it back. General Tso chicken was better but I got a couple pieces that were gray inside. Probably bloody when they cooked it. I cut every piece before I had it. Sichuan chicken was not spicy and very sweet. No Sichuan peppercorns. Very similar to General Tso. I had a specialty dish once. Beef, pork, shrimp, scallop, vegetables in a birds nest. You know the one. Well, it was one small shrimp, one scallop sliced thinly, a piece of the red roast pork, and a couple thin slices of chicken. A couple pieces of vegetables. The birds nest, which is usually fried noodles was a fried tortilla. Disappointed, and it wasn't cheap. Some good, some bad. I think I have been seven or eight times. It's not bad. There seems to be hit and miss in the kitchen. Sauces are very sweet, and I've sent back food half of my visits. Giving the place a break for a while. read more

We love ordering from China Gourmet! We frequently order the orange chicken, fried rice, wonton soup, dumplings, ho fun or the hong Kong style noodles, appetizers vary. Everything that we have tried has always been delicious!! Also, the staff is very friendly and ensures they have your order correct. My wife and I tried takeout from China Gourmet and we were very happy with the experience. First of all, to be clear, my four star rating is in comparison to other similar types of restaurants, but not necessarily indicative that this restaurant is as good as others I have given 4 Stars to. OK, I'll start with their website, since this is what first caught my eye. China Gourmet allows you to complete and pay for orders online, and the website functions well. The feature I really liked was the option to indicate exactly when we would like to pick up the food. Revolutionary. In the past I've called early to other places and have been told to 'call back' if I wanted the food delivered later. Brilliant use of technology right off the bat. Alright now to the food. I prize fresh ingredients highly and China Gourmet used them. The chicken in my Orange Chicken was good quality and cooked perfectly. My wife ordered Kung Pao and had a similar experience. Their combos are good, and the sizes of the portions are big - we got two meals out of our orders. We also ordered edamame and spring rolls and enjoyed them. All in all China Gourmet exceeded our expectations. I can't comment on the restaurant itself but the location was very convenient for us in Barrington. read more

It's just so wonderful, cuz they really put their heart in whatever they make, and they make everything so special!! I wanted to go here because I saw the pictures on yelp, that contains some real Chinese food. But when I got there, the menu was kind of crappy, and we almost left. And then I found out the things on the menu had more potentials then they look like. And this place certainly surprised us. The soup is the best I've ever had around here, and the dishes are really special and fun, as well as delicious. It's my favorite Chinese restaurant now. They should really put some effort on their menu design. And you should definitely try out this place~! Ps, another thing you may need to know, is they have secrete menus. There're things typical American people don't know and wouldn't order, so they didn't put them on the menu. But if you saw anything you want on the pics, then you can ask and they'll make it for you. Well we love the food here and the people who work here too, so it's sad to write this review. My family and I order from here enough, and it's always been reasonably priced even after the annoying $20 delivery minimum started. I guess Friday their prices will be going up and we won't be going here anymore. The food is great, but not worth the incoming price jump. The prices are sometimes $2 more and they give you less food. Such as the sticky chicken wings that went from $7.95 for 12, to $9.95 for 10. Teriyaki beef is $7.95 for 4 of them! Just seems insane to me. I like getting the orange chicken dinner and the teriyaki beef, but that's $19 just for me with it being $4 more than it was with previous pricing. They seemed typically priced before, but suddenly are going a whole new route with it. We are really disappointed, but all we can do is find a new place that's reasonably priced for Chinese takeout. They've taken away sushi from the menu which was something I personally really loved getting from them. White rice for a small pint doubled in price......it's white rice! Unless they are trying to get more people eating at home . The food isn't bad though, but it's likely you can find similar or the same quality for a better price nearby. These days an added $8 or more onto a meal for two is a big deal, at least for my family. We also really love Papa Pasquale's and Pizza Amore for different things, decent prices, and delivery minimum is great ($10)! I don't know what it's like eating inside the restaurant, but I know the people who work there can be very kind, and it's been there for a long time. read more

Horrible! First off, sushi that is supposed to be spicy shouldn't be topped off with HOT SAUCE! Secondly, if you're going to use LETTUCE in one of your rolls...make sure it's fresh lettuce! CALLING ALL VEGETARIANS! China Gourmet has a bunch of secret vegetarian items, but you have to ask. Why it's secret I have no idea, because it's probably the best veggie friendly American style Chinese in RI. So far I've had Sesame Tofu, General Tso's tofu, and Kung Pao tofu; the Sesame is my favorite. As others have pointed out, the portions are generous and the prices are excellent, and they offer brown rice. read more
