If you're looking for authentic Japanese sushi and cuisine, don't go here. Sadly, the sushi at Kim…read moreHung's is despicable. Being a native of Okinawa, Japan, I was excited when a sushi bar opened in Friedberg since I live fairly close. I thought I'd give the Vietnamese owners the benefit of the doubt and try the sushi. One might think based on the photos, "What's my deal?" Well, Japanese food is neither Chinese nor Vietnamese. There is as much distinction between Asian ethnic foods as there is among European ethnic foods. It might look like sushi but it was not Japanese and it certainly was not delicious. My husband ordered Tamagoyaki (sweet egg omelet), Kappamaki (cucumber roll), and the Philly (salmon with cream cheese roll). I ordered the udon, also not Japanese. For starters, the sushi rice is not done correctly. How the rice is prepared really separates the good sushi from bad sushi. It was utterly too vinegary and mushy. Second, the salmon was not fresh. Third, the egg omelet was watery and also missing a necessary ingredient to truly make it Tamagoyaki. Lastly, the soup base of my udon was more of a stock for Chinese wonton. It also had vegetables like bean sprouts and bokchoy that are not common to Japanese udon and which have a distinctive flavor that would alter the soup stock. This vegetable flavor isn't typical for udon which uses soy, bonito (fish), konbu (sea kelp) and sometimes miso (soy bean paste) stocks. I'm all for good fushion food. In fact, I love Japanese fushion rolls like caterpillar roll and crunchy roll. However, when I eat at any Japanese restaurant, I expect a level of authenticity from the food. Eating at Kim Hung's, I only encountered disappointment with each food I tried. None of it was authentically Japanese. I guess I received what I paid for here, since the place is relatively cheap compared to other Japanese restaurants in Frankfurt am Main and vicinity. The authentic restaurants can be found in Frankfurt am Main but it cost 4 to 6 times the price of meals I would get in Japan. The place has a nice ambience and just only that. I didn't mind the service either since they were friendly. However, I can't give anything more than one star because the people here are only banking on the sushi trend in Germany and because there is no other Japanese restaurant in Friedberg to compete with it. A restaurant shouldn't market itself as a Japanese sushi bar if they are not going to make an effort to do it right. Stick to their wok menu if you want to eat some decent Chinese/Vietnamese food.

I have another lace around the area where I get my crispy duck when I'm feeling Chinese food while here so today I get to try this place. Btw Germany on Sundays everything is close but the restaurants. The duck is with bamboo shoots which is one of my favorite vegetables. It was amazingly fresh and the duck was tender with just the right seasoning. The lady and host that helped me spoke very good English and was very efficient on getting my order fast. I was able to sue my debit card as well. Another tip Capital One changed their partnership so only a few places use Capital One debit cards here unless they accept "diners club" then you'll be fine. The atmosphere is also excellent. Very quiet and intimate so it's ideal for entertaining because you can actually converse and hear each other. I will definitely come back on my next stay especially that it's so convenient for me. If you're in the area check them out and would love to know what you think of it.

The lycheewine was amazing, the Chinese sake was stronger than the typical Japanese sake and just wonderful. The first time I had the fried duck with veggies and steamed rice. The duck was cooked to perfection! I even ate some of the bones since they were so crispy and delicate. Oh, so good. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about it. My friends all had mixed dishes with chicken or fish and all were really good. We all finished our entire plates cause the food was amazing. The next time I went I had a spicy pork and chicken dish which was pretty good but not as amazing as the duck. If you're in the area, you gotta check it out. Good food, super fast and friendly service and lots of seating (indoor and outside).

Lemme just say: I was absolutely DELIGHTED to see a' AYCE Hot Pot location…read more I had spent 2 months in Heidelberg, and I was seriously homesick for some good hotpot. This place turned out to be a mere 5 minutes walk from my hostel when my friend and I had stayed a night in Frankfurt. It's super close to the Hauptbahnhof (like, basically in front of it). When I went in, I asked the lady for a table for two at the counter and she instantly handed me the drinks menu. I thought that that was strange, but I ordered a drink for my friend and I and she went on to make the drinks without seating us. Unsure of what to do, I sat us down ourselves, waiting for someone to come over and ask us what kind of soup we wanted for our hotpot. I waited about 10 minutes before finally just asking someone. They were very nice about it (probably partly because I spoke Chinese), but it did take quite a while and there was no real service. Also, the cost of the AYCE is kinda deceitful. It says on the menu that it costs €16 for the AYCE hotpot without soup, and an extra €2 with soup. But what does that even mean?? How can you have hotpot without soup? It's only €2, but it's kinda the principle of the thing. Now about the food: it's pretty epic. There's a spot when you first walk in with dozens of different, authentic hotpot ingredients which you are allowed to take as much as you want (it is an AYCE!). It ranges from seaweed to fatty beef to dumplings to fish tofu and even pig brains. Seriously. Fantastic variety. There's also a station to make sauces with a dozen ingredients laid out for you. Their dessert selection is also great. There's a soft serve machine and really good éclairs. We both got our fill and left. Warning: they only take local banks or cash. Visas are not accepted. TL;DR: food was great. Service was pretty ehhhh. Definitely still worth a visit.

The shrimp paste was awesome and the variety of the buffet was great! Each person has their own little pot which can be filled with a soup of their choice. The buffet also has a little sauce station where you can mix up your own sauce. Staff coming regularly to clean up dirty and empty plates and walking around with a big kettle and asking to refill. The restaurant was filled with mostly Chinese people. That's how you know it's the real deal! Would definitely return again!
