Although I had I pretty bad flu since the week before, I couldnt resists to join this event. Even though it appeared to be my first night as the Qype City Night host. So after all I joined the group around twentyhundret-and-a-bit: a bunch of more than 25 heads, that made their way to the GOLDEN, a place being criticized in november last year by myself in a pretty harsh but discussable way. Therefore I was pretty excited how both - the restaurantsowner and the qype community - would reflect on the upcoming event. Bearing a pretty poor stomach for almost a week in mind, I decided to choose from the menu, beginning with a chinese mushroom soup with chicken. Great choise! Delicious and tasty. Then there was some Dim Sums and in the end another shark-fin-soup (what-so-ever the english equivalent may be called). Please refer to both english and german feedbacksregarding the GOLDEN. Qype City night January '08 brought me here. They had prepared a great set menu for us. Nine dishes, they said, but I'm pretty certain it was more like 12. We had cold dishes to start, glass noodles, cold meats, tofu & garlic, etc. That wasn't really my thing, but each successive course brought better and better food. One course brought some really great prawns. They were messy to eat, but delicious. After the two (or three, I forget) main courses came some amazing soup, and after that we got one small sweet dish. I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it seemed like dates covered in dough, rolled in sesame seeds. Really cannot believe it took me so long to try this restaurant! Grabbed take out on a Sunday - and it was de-lish. Next time I will call ahead, but there is no menu online that I am aware of. We had Duck with Peking sauce, Wonton Soup, Chicken Chow Mein and veggie rolls. All good. Looking forward to our next Chinese Sunday pick-up! read more

My wife and I are still on the hunt for the more American-style Chinese food (e.g. bucket of chicken fried rice), and this place is not that. Dinner was good, but fairly nondescript. I got the chicken fried rice, but there were less than half a dozen small pieces of chicken in the entire thing and on the whole it was rather bland. The fried wontons were good, but the meat-to-dough ratio was a little disappointing. She got a chicken noodle dish that she was relatively happy with, but once again, nothing outstanding. We'll probably be back because it's relatively close, but the hunt for my default take-out place continues. read more

Definately one of the best chinese restaurants in Hamburg. When the boss is there he enjoys to advise and explain the traditional chinese dishes at the back of the menu. Lots of chinese customers here as well. To access the restaurant you need to go up some stairs. read more

After going there for few years, I have to admit that, this is a decent place to go for Chinese - Taiwanese ( southern homemade food style) place. It is not a place for spicy food --- there are large group of Chinese who don't eat Spicy food !!! :) It is more southern style --- definitely! the Good thing is: when there is a big travel group eating at the back, you will have a chance to order those "long time prepared " dish !!! Got here about 30 minutes before they closed for the afternoon on a friday! The place was not packed at all and the wait staff were happy to sit us. There is a reasonable lunch special for about 5 euros which I recommend and which my friend and I ordered from. I did notice that they had a dim sum menu. I love dim sum so I will be back for sure to try that next time! For this lunch adventure though, we ordered from the lunch Specials menu. I ordered the curry fish and my friend ordered the si chuan eggplant. We started with hot and sour soup which is included in the lunch special. The soup was really good, I added a couple dashes of white pepper to enhance the flavors but it was still really good without it. Then the main dishes were presented to us in a sharing style. With both orders in the middle of the table and a side of rice for both of us to share. I really enjoyed both dishes! The fish curry is the normal yellow curry and had bits of carrots and onions in it. The fish was very tender and curry was very flavorful esp. over the rice. Yum! I tried some of the eggplant and it wasn't too spicy but it as also really flavorful. My friend and I happily cleaned our plates! Overall, its a solid choice for chinese food. The lunch special is reasonably priced. The portion size of the lunch specials are perfect for lunch as well, not too much but just enough to fill you up! Brilliant chinese restaurant and easily the best I've been to in Hamburg. Golden seem to concentrate more on traditional Chinese dishes instead of the carbon-copy stuff we're all used to seeing on the menu in other Chinese establishments. So, what's on the menu? Well, what isn't? Asparagus in chopped scampi, cold glass-noodle salad, green onion soup, various rice, noodle, beef, fish and chicken dishes, Golden really has it all, and most of it will be very new to you - so try it out! I very much enjoyed my visit to Golden! I was staying at a hotel down the street, and decided I had a taste for Chinese food. Seeing that there was a positively-reviewed place just a short walk away, I decided to get take away and bring it back to my room. The staff was very friendly when I arrived. After a few minutes looking over the menu, I decided on a beef dish that was supposed to be spicy. Unfortunately, I do not remember the exact name of the dish. While I waited, I looked around the restaurant itself which was clean and comfortable, if not a little dark. The food came out relatively quickly, and I walked back to my hotel. Once settled down, I ripped in to the bag and found a lot of food (for the price), and it was very delicious as well! The dish was not very spicy, which was disappointing, but I am used to that - most places are not spicy enough for me. I would certainly return to Golden if I were in the area for the friendly staff, good prices and delicious food. read more

Absolutely love this place!! From the outside it looks a bit run down and you may be even turned off by it but once you step inside you won't regret it. It reminds me of the Chinese restaurants in New York with its dark wood paneling, red tablecloths, and Chinese artwork. The staff is extremely friendly and next to all the artwork you will notice several new clippings with regard to China Golden. That's right, they have been published in newspapers, magazines, and much more. The huge menu has everything you could imagine and more. The prices are a bargain for what you get and what you get is a feast. The smells, the taste, and the atmosphere are to die for. I can't recommend 1 dish since I love them all as if they were my children but just trust me and stop by China Golden and see for yourself. read more

Too expensive, fried noodles tasted disgusting! Too much oil and my friend and I both got food poisoning from it ! Can't recommend at all !

Golden is certainly one of my top favourite chinese restaurants in Europe. Instead of choosing from the German menu, I recommend to talk to the owner-manager, a smiling chubby 50 year-old chinese who speaks English and is very friendly and helpful. If there's too many people to get a hold of him, choose dishes on the menu starting from number 700 and above. Those are the authentic ones. All previous ones are for foreigners. I beg you not to drink soft drinks with this food, order jasmin tea for heaven's sake! They actually serve an excellent one, a rare thing these days and a distinct sign of quality. read more

I was positively surprised by the many different dishes you can order, even though sometimes further detailed descriptions may help you figuring out what to eat. Waiters were friendly, what actually persuaded me into rating three stars is the fact that portions are a bit disappointing in terms of quantity and that people were loud, also payment with cash card is not supported, anyway i'm definitely going again!
