The moment I walked into the door I knew I was in for a treat. The door chime was exactly what I needed to hear to know the food was going to be good. The Mei fun combo was so good. It has curry in it, just in case you're not into that. We had pork chow mein and the slabs of pork were great! Big chunks. Dark fried rice, St. Paul Sammy, pork egg rolls cooked to a perfect crisp. I really have 0 complaints. Everything was above average. This isn't 3 Michelins stars kind of good, but it's 5 Stars on Yelp good. I'm hard of hearing so I needed my wife to help hear the woman behind the counter. She was great! Very helpful and even threw an extra bag of crab Rangoon. What she didn't know is that's my wife's favorite and it was her birthday dinner. She just wanted Chinese take out from a new place. So off to Star we went and they couldn't have done it any better. I'm so glad we went and will definitely be back. Now... ambiance is EXACTLY what you'd want from a take out Chinese place. The door bell is perfect and you'll understand when you go! Just embrace it. First time here. Ordered delivery. They were very thorough on the phone, even asked if we wanted the free stuff. Delivery was pretty fast, came right to the counter where I work. Curry chicken was great! Lots of chicken, could have used a few more pea pods, but nice and spicy, crisp veggies, really good. The chicken fried rice had a lot of chicken but was a little bland. The food is so good! It is always hot, fresh and delicious! When I crave Chinese food, China Star is always my first thought. I always get the shrimp fried rice and crab rangoon - chefs kiss food! The service is great. There is usually a younger guy working along with someone I assume is his mother or sister. They are always so friendly, saying thank you for coming in, etc. it's really no big deal! :) The ambience is what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant - a few tables, photos of the fancy dishes they serve, and welcoming. It occurred to me that my family has been ordering dinner from China Star for over five years and I have never reviewed them! We order China Star at least once a month. They are always fast, courteous, deliver huge portions, and everything is always still hot and so so yummy. Very reasonable prices. I absolutely love their food. We struggle to find Chinese food in this part of the world that isn't just greasy hell. We randomly got a menu from these guys in the mail at our new apartment, and thought we'd try it -- the prices were so good we figured we at least wouldn't be out much if it sucked. It was *amazing*. Much better than the highly overrated PF Changs in STL. Delivery staff were prompt and friendly, food was beautifully prepared from fresh ingredients.. What more can you ask for? Lovely. This place is gross. I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with brown sauce, and got pretty much no brown sauce. They also took almost an hour and a half to deliver the food. My coworker also barely ate any of his food and was not happy. The only thing that was decent was the egg drop soup. Spend your money elsewhere cause I feel like I was gipped out of $20. read more

This place delivers in half that time every time I order. Also, another plus, when I order over the phone, the people are always so nice and repeat everything I say instead of just "ok" to make sure they recorded everything I said. If you have ever eaten at a restaurant that has "China" in their name than there will be no menu surprises - in fact it seems as if all these places get theirs printed from the same place. China Star's menu does get high marks for making me laugh every time I read the engrish, "We can adjust the spicy to your taste!" What sets a Chinese restaurant apart is the quality of the food. I've ate at some dodgy places that made me really consider the urban legends about local cats going missing. China Star is above average and that is why I'm giving it four stars - I'm definitely grading on a curve. For a Chinese restaurant serving the same lo mein, fried race, and General Tso's, it is definitely above average. The food is very tasty although we have had the occasional overcooked entry. The portions are generous enough to have dinner and lunch the next day. The prices are reasonable. The carryout is fast and convenient - which was I recommend doing because the look of restaurant proper is rather dismal. They also have free delivery which tends to be on the slow side. read more
