GROSS HORRIBLE The absolute worst Chinese food I have ever attempted to eat? Chicken Teriyaki, tiny, tiny giblets of a few pieces of chicken, multitude of many dark slimy pieces of mushroom, terrible, terrible tasting egg roll, spit out the one bite of it, and yellow yucky tasting egg drop soup I did not eat one drop , charged extra for cup of BOILING HOT Jasmine tea, total was $10.00 wasted, couldn't eat any of the entire meal but the rice with a tiny bit of "yucky" tasting brown teriyaki sauce. So I'm relatively new to Lubbock so maybe I've been spoiled elsewhere, but if people think this is the best Chinese food in town I am definitely not going to be having Chinese any time soon! First of all, I will compliment the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and it was a nice quiet dining room. The food on the other hand left little to be desired. The wonton soup had three wontons dropped in what can only be described as colored water. Absolutely zero flavor. My wife and I put soy sauce in the bowl which helped a little bit still not appetizing. Next we had the combo appetizer. The egg rolls and dumplings were okay but still a little bland. The crab rangoons were flat and contained hardly any filling. My wife had the chicken lo mein. The noodles were bland and the chicken seemed to have a sour taste. My son had the orange chicken. While the sauce tasted pretty good, the chicken was rubbery and awful texture-wise. I had the sesame chicken. Again, the sauce was pretty good but it was covering the same awful chicken my son had. I was actually worried it wasn't cooked all the way based on the texture. (It must have been since we were all fine later in the day) Finally, the fried rice had a gummy texture and was extremely tasteless. In all, we walked out completely dissatisfied and $50 lighter in the wallet which was the hardest part to swallow (pun intended!) I'm not sure if it was just an off day since there are so many good reviews on here or if maybe their "to go" operation is a higher quality but we won't be back to find out. My grandson said he LOVES the eggdrop soup, the egg rolls, and the teriyaki chicken. Husband LOVES the cheese wontons and Hunan Shrimp. I personally enjoyed the Chicken chow mein. As with many hometown Chinese restaurants lunch is the best time to go. Great prices and great service. It was a little empty for 12pm but everyone in the restaurant seemed to be regulars. China Town has the most authentic Chinese food in Lubbock. They have a menu page dedicated to authentic dishes. We tried the domino tofu (at the recommendation of fellow yelpers) and the salt and pepper shrimp. The domino tofu was really good! the tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was topped with ground pork and mushrooms in a brown sauce. The serving is huge! I highly recommend it. The salt and pepper shrimp was really good too. The fish sauce flavor was strong, but it was still very good. The shrimp was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. The restaurant itself is very clean and the service is great! So sad this is your best Chinese restaurant in LBK. But it is indeed the most authentic one you could find in the area. They do have a small Chinese menu but it is very limited. I ordered a few times off the Chinese menu, food was decent but portion was too small. I also came a couple of times with coworkers for lunch. Food tasted OK for the American menu. China Town is the best Chinese food in Lubbock. I love Chinese food. I have been to every Chinese food restaurant in town, even the more expensive ones. China Town, by far, has the best cuisine and the best prices. The food is always served fresh, vegetables are crisp, and the meat is tender and succulent. The service is quick and you can be in and out in an hour -- completely satisfying your pallet and your pocketbook. The only drawback is their hours. I found the food pretty standard. I ordered the domino tofu, my wife had generals and the kids had orange chicken. It was all good but I liked the Tsao. It was the best dish. It was all brought to the table fast and hot. We have lived all over the world in the military so i might be overly critical with Chinese food. However it was good and we will be back. read more

I'm Chinese, this is the only chinese restaurant in town that I would call "authentic". If you're interested in having real Chinese food, turn to the last page of the menu (all in Chinese) and ask about the dishes there. My recommendation? So I had actually given up on finding good Chinese food in Lubbock, but do to the reviews on yelp I tried this place. People have already said its the best Chinese food in Lubbock and it's true!! I went in and ordered it to go. The service was fantastic. I went with dumplings, egg drop soup, and beef broccoli. I'm a sucker for good dumplings and these were pretty dang good. The egg drop soup was traditional, super cheap, and delicious. I went with beef broccoli because it's a pretty good way to judge a Chinese place in my opinion. I have been told by native Chinese people that it's very authentic, as long as you don't order the American Chinese food. I have never had that "MSG" feeling after eating there. Everything was excellent. Food, service and the quiet atmosphere. I don't know why it wasn't more busy. Everyone should check this place out! If you are looking for great flavor, quality food, nice portion sizes, all for a reasonable price you have absolutely come to the wrong place. I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, General Tso Chicken, Broccoli Beef, and Chicken Fried Rice. Everything other than the Chicken Fried Rice, which was actually pretty good, was not only flavorless (I've eaten better cardboard) but everything, including the Chicken Fried Rice, had about half the portion size I should have gotten for what I payed. In closing I'd would say that unless you're a really big fan of a small amount of expensive Sweet & Sour Packing Peanuts stay far far away from this (supposed) restaurant that could give an oilfield Port-A- John a bad name. read more

Let's face it, in Lubbock, there are very few authentic Asian restaurants. When you ask a local about Chinese food, the answer you'll often get will either be along the lines of Panda Express fare or a Chinese buffet. And while Orange Chicken certainly does have a place on my palate every blue moon, it can get pretty disappointing seeing even the mid- and high-tier "Chinese" restaurants in town still catering to the lowest common denominator. Enter The China Town Restaurant. I found this place purely by accident while around the southwest side of town, and oh what a serendipitous accident it was. I won't lie. A majority of their menu consists of your typical Americanized (or some might call "fake") Chinese food. However, they have a page on the in-restaurant menu (which isn't on the take-out menu, oddly) dedicated to authentic dishes, complete with Chinese characters and vague English translations! That's where the prize is here. On my first visit, I ordered the Salt and Pepper Shrimp and the Pork with Sweet Bean Sauce to go (I think. Like I said, vague names) . Both were quite good. Each came with a serving of rice, which I always wish would be a little bit bigger, but that's just me. The shrimp tasted great and I'd consider the portion average (shrimp dishes never seem to have huge portions wherever you go, strangely). The pork's portion was huge, though, in addition to being delicious. You basically get a big to-go box filled with pork and (I got) four tortilla pieces to roll up and basically eat like a burrito. Both dishes were around $10, give or take a dollar. Not exactly the cheapest pricing, especially for a native Houstonian like me, but I'll take what I can get. I wouldn't call it over-priced though. Familiar tastes and decent-to-giant portions earn this place a 5/5. I'll probably never try their non-authentic menu, and that's okay. I'll certainly be back sooner than later. read more
