This review was from multiple visits to Chinacy during our Vienna trip over 10 days ago.
We fell for Chinacy at the original location in MuseumsQuartier. Our first visit left a "very" strong impression with delicious and inventive flavors, great execution, warm, attentive and friendly service -- though we couldn't take photos that night because we had to drop our phones at the Apple Store for new batteries.
The dishes we remember ordering from the original location were all delicious: Wan Tan Soup (perfect for a cold and rainy day), Classic Pork Bao Bun, Siu Mai, Sweet & Sour Shanghai Ribs. When we were leaving, we saw several tables that had a noodle dish that looked so good.
We decided to come back for a lighter lunch the following day, and made a resy at the Karlsplatz location. This was walking distance from the train station. Much larger, relaxing space and contemporary decor. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. We finally got to try the noodles. The Fried Noodles with Chicken was exceptional! It was so flavorful and the chicken was sliced thinly and so tender. This chicken dish converted me to a huge fan of chicken in Vienna, lol. We paired this dish with something we have not had before: Kao Fu which is braised seitan with shiitake and wood ear mushrooms. Seitan is a meat alternative. Texture is similar to tofu. Not familiar with seitan and it was surprisingly very good.
We came back again for lunch the following day before leaving Vienna. We ordered the Fried Noodles again, Chili and Pepper Chicken, Gong Bao Chicken (Kung Pao in the US) and the Sweet and Sour Ribs. We will skip the Gong Bao and Chili and Pepper Chicken next time.
Because the Karlsplatz location is still in soft opening, a few menu items may be limited.
* Try to visit the original location if you want the full, established menu; just know it's a small venue and there is a 60-90 minute wait if you don't have any reservations.
* Reservations are a highly recommended and I made ours via The Fork.
5 out of 5! Chinacy is one of those places that makes you want to come back and try more. The Karlsplatz location is off to a strong start and, once the soft opening kinks are ironed out, it should be a reliable go‑to for creative and flavorful Asian cuisine in Vienna. read more
