Growing up in Hong Kong, Chinese herbs and acupuncture are nothing new to me. I was a little hesitant to try out an acupuncturist in the U.S., outside of HK or china, but Dr. Au 歐醫師,has proven that you can find good acupuncturists in the U.S. too! To the point - he is precise with where he puts the needles with minimal discomfort. If it's the right spot, you should feel a little numb which was what I felt in almost every needle he placed on me. Realistically, you would not believe me if I say you won't feel anything. It's a needle, but I'd say at first it's similar to getting small pinch from an ant or from your playful yet obnoxious child. Later on, after he hooks up the electrodes to the needles, you'll feel electric current going into your muscles and relaxing them. It's much deeper and more effective than massage. Best of all, I feel great for the next couple days after each session. That's the reason why I and other patients keep coming back. He never prescribed me fresh herbs to cook at home but gave me Chinese herbal pills instead which I was a bit disappointed with. Nonetheless the pills worked so I guess it's OK. Don't expect anything spa like here. As you can see in the pics, it's a dated office with simple furniture and minimal decor (if there's any). Dr. Au is soft spoken and gentle. He speaks English well enough to communicate, but his native language is Cantonese, which I communicate with him in. I read somewhere that the office takes insurance but don't remember what kind, but if you pay cash it's $60 per visit without insurance. Try him out if you need an acupuncturist! The fact that he's gentle and precise gave me a peace of mind to make me keep coming back!

Saturday April 5, 2025 I have been here many times in the past for TCM ways with NO side effects. instead of the western medicine ways with PLENTY side effects. A few parking stalls in the back of the building or there is street parking on South King Street in front of the place. He listens to the problems that you have first and then he asks additional questions after for more information to give you the right treatment that is right for you. He recommended herbs instead of acupuncture for my treatment. I fully trust him and I was thinking herbs too. The care and the quality that you get is very good! It is very easy to tell him what is wrong with yourself than going to a regular doctor which is very comforting. The office visit is a wonderful experience from the very start to the very end when you leave. I will definitely be back in 2 weeks. I highly recommend coming to him if you want the TCM experience of herbs, acupuncture or both.

Came down with the flu while on my trip. Was able to get same day appointment. Dr. Au took pulse and gave me acupuncture, he was very gentle with his needling, and very precise with his points. He also prescribed herbs (pills). Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Can't wait to take the herbs and feel better!

Definitely an experience acupuncturist as he understood my asthma, kidney transplant plant and other medical history problems. I called at the last minute and he was able to take me. He speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Very experienced and the cheapest acupuncturist around. I also did cupping.

If you choose to utilize the services offered here, you will get the exact opposite from what you receive at traditional medical clinics or even a acupuncturist who provides low lighting and New Age music gently playing in the background, and btw a price tag that makes alternative medicine prohibitive to many folks. The office is very unassuming, the beds are hand made, and while you're receiving the treatment you can hear local kids walking by telling stories to each other and ambulances announcing their presence. There are jars filled with herbs floor to ceiling and your "prescription" is delivered in a brown paper bag. The doctor is happy and while he struggles with English he seems to be an expert in his trade. I've had a deliberating physical condition which was stopped in its tracks after one session. While it did return it's seemed to be with less intensity. I will keep going back. I highly recommend this business for it's simple and affordable approach to healthcare and lack of concern with approval by insurance companies and multiple tests and paperwork before offering a service.

Dr. Mei-Lin is amazing!…read more In our quest for parenthood, I stumbled upon Maunakea Acupuncture. My Obgyn said to just continue trying and come back in a year if nothing happens. Me (being my impatient self) wanted to explore other possibilities. I'm still young and relatively healthy, so I was looking for a naturopathic option. She did an extensive consultation and walked me through the plan before we started acupuncture. She asked about things like my diet, lifestyle, and gave me great advice on what I should/shouldn't do. The next appointment was scheduled for acupuncture. I'm not sure if it was the timing or the stars just aligned. I immediately got pregnant after the first session! A pregnancy test confirmed it a month later on Father's Day. I saw her religiously during the first trimester and sparingly throughout my pregnancy. Based off my pulse, she was able to identify the baby's gender and confirmed we're having a boy! Now, a year later, we have a healthy and happy baby boy! I still see her once a month post partum to help my body heal. Thank you Dr. Mei-Lin! PS She also helped fix my reoccurring knee and ankle pains Thanks for reading my reviews! I haven't been to a store like this myself to see the doctor for an assessment to better my health. In fact, it's been a very, very long time since I've drank those type of Chinese medicinal herbs. It's always been my parents and grandparents combining their own ingredients that was taught to them from their parents and grandparents or other family members, and possibly they were taught by older generations too. When I was a kid, I dreaded drinking that bitter, thick, black concoction. I already felt sick, the smell and taste of it makes even feel worse!! Why? Why? Why?! I made a deal with my parents and grandparents to drink it in one gulp only if I can have a candy--a candy chaser lol. Well, I'm not a kid now (on the outside, at least), so I don't think I need one now? I was recommended Tak Wah Tong from a client. She used it for her sickness. I normally rely on Western medicine to get the job done for quick relief and quick healing, but Western medicines doesn't improve your health from the inside as Traditional Chinese medicine. Tak Wah Tong is located in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza among Beretania. It's in the inner part of the plaza, next to the big stage, and near Won Kee and Legend Seafood restaurants. You'll be greeted by a kind elder gentleman and lady. They both can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and very understandable English. You explain your issues and health concerns to the doctor, and he will check and feel your pulse on both your wrists. Then he will write up his ingredients list to make your herbal drink. After that, they both go to work, and gather and weigh all your ingredients. I have really no idea on the cost as I've never did this. My family usually just buys the whole bags and prepare at home. I did the 5-day plan and that ran me $60 even. Seems okay. They only accept Cash or Check, no credit or debit cards. No need appointment. The inside of the store is clean and well-lit. I'm surprised there was no giant apothecary cabinet, but everything was in jars and containers along the wall and scattered here and there. Overall, I do strongly believe in Traditional Chinese medicine. Whenever I was sick, and Western medicine fails, Chinese medicine always heals me. Western medicine gets straight to the point for quick relief, and Chinese medicine heals within and the hidden, underlying issue. I'm only day three of my medicine, but hopefully it'll work in the long run.

I just got a call after being on the waitlist for 8 months, and told they're "going down the list"…read moreto reach out to waitlisted people. I was essentially told I had to decide that minute (like literally THAT MINUTE) if I would accept an upcoming appointment in a few weeks. I'm in treatment with a different acupuncturist - it's been 8 months after all - and I needed a moment to think about this. I wanted to review my care plan and goals after not hearing from this practice for so long. Very much caught off guard. I asked if I could have time to think (I wanted about an hour), and was told no - I would need to decide right then THAT MINUTE - and she needed to proceed down the waitlist. I felt extremely pressured to make a decision on the spot, in a very vulnerable aspect of health care - fertility and women's health. I was about to say yes, and then after thinking about it for the three seconds I had and how unprofessional this all felt - my answer turned to a hard "no." This practice made me feel like a mark, a number, an insignificant person on a list to get through until they hit their client booking goals. In spite of how talented a healer Edie Uchida might be, this policy is unfair and the person delivering this info, very cold.

Edie is hands down the best, and I know this because I have happy and healthy 3-month-old twin girls thanks to her! My OBGYN, who is also my IVF doctor, affectionately calls my girls the "miracle babies." I'm a 42-year-old woman who has been battling endometriosis, an autoimmune disease, and years of infertility (around 7 years total). Before seeing Edie, I had undergone 2 laparoscopies and a hysteroscopy for my endometriosis. I also took 3 cycles of Clomid, which unfortunately resulted in a miscarriage. I attempted 3 more cycles of Clomid, but those attempts were unsuccessful as well. Additionally, I had 3 unsuccessful IUI attempts and a single failed round of IVF. My first round of IVF involved retrieving 7 eggs, but only 4 were viable, and only 3 of those made it to embryos. Considering my age, health history, and the lower grading of the embryos, all 3 were transferred. Unfortunately, none of them implanted. Enter Edie! I started seeing her in June 2023, 2-3 times a week. After overcoming several challenges with hormonal imbalances and cysts, which Edie effectively managed, I underwent my egg retrieval in October 2023. Before the retrieval, my doctor monitored my follicles and provided guidance to Edie on the necessary interventions. For instance, during an ultrasound to assess follicle count and growth, one side had larger follicles compared to the other. I informed Edie about this at my next appointment, and she adjusted the treatment plan. At my following ultrasound, both sides had evened out. I was fortunate enough to retrieve 8 viable eggs, with 7 of them successfully developing into 3-day embryos. This was more than double the number I had previously achieved, and the quality of the embryos was significantly improved. I continued to see Edie until my embryo transfer in January 2024. Immediately following my transfer, I saw her for a special treatment to help the implantation process. After my previous IVF cycle failed, I was cautiously optimistic but started experiencing period symptoms about a week later. I was certain it wasn't working, but Edie remained positive and said, "I feel like it worked." I appreciated her optimism, but I was certain my period was coming. Two weeks after my transfer, I received my positive beta results! She was right! I discovered I was having twins, and due to my age, medical history, and the fact that I was having twins, I was at high risk. As a result, I was recommended to be on modified bed rest for the first trimester. The only places I visited during that time were my doctor's and Edie's appointments. Not only did Edie help me conceive and maintain my pregnancy, but she also provided support during my severe morning sickness, which persisted throughout my pregnancy. She also helped alleviate symptoms of a flare-up with my UC and treated all my pregnancy symptoms. Additionally, she offered support after losing my little brother to cancer when I was six months pregnant. Edie helped manage my anxiety, heartbreak, and sleep during that extremely difficult time! Unfortunately, I had to stop seeing her around 34 weeks, which I believe ultimately contributed to my preeclampsia. At 38 weeks (full term), I managed to deliver two beautiful girls, both weighing a healthy 6.5 pounds each! Edie is truly amazing! I genuinely mean that! She cares deeply about her patients, and I honestly believe that if it weren't for her help, knowledge, and genuine care, my girls wouldn't be here today. And while this may sound cliché, after seeing her for so long, I miss her because she became a friend to me. If there's only one thing you take away from this review, when you visit Edie, please fully trust her and the process. She knows what she's doing! My advice to you: Take the herbs and supplements, follow the diet, wear the patches, listen to her advice, and visit her as often as possible. It's actually quite incredible to see the difference she can make to your body and overall health. I still can't believe I have 2 amazing, happy, and healthy girls because of her. I will forever be grateful for everything she has done for me!

One time I called wanting to schedule an appointment and Dr Lee was clearly busy but still very politely waited (until realization hit me and I let him go.) Highly recommended for holistic and traditional Chinese medicine. Very bright clinic with multiple treatment rooms and Classical music adds to the overall experience.

After completing two treatment plans with the husband-and-wife doctor team at T. Y. LEE Oriental Medicine Center in Honolulu, my perspective on it has completely changed. What helped most was how patient and attentive they were in guiding me through the experience. They explained what they were doing, checked in throughout the appointment, and allowed me to ease into treatment at a pace that felt manageable rather than overwhelming. That approach made a big difference for someone like me who was nervous going in. During my visits I received electroacupuncture and fire cupping, and over time I began noticing encouraging changes in how my body responded -- particularly with tension relief and overall nervous system balance. Something I once avoided has become a treatment I now appreciate and even look forward to. The office is organized and professional, and appointments are handled with care and attention. One thing I appreciated is that they help schedule your next appointment before you leave, which makes it easy to stay consistent with treatment. Once you've been established as a patient, scheduling by text is also an option, which is very convenient. Their clinic is located at 1401 S Beretania St., Suite 300, and there is a parking structure available, making visits to the office much easier when coming into the area. For anyone who has been curious about acupuncture but feels unsure about needles, this practice provides a thoughtful and supportive introduction. My experience here helped turn something I once feared into something that now feels beneficial and approachable.
