I've been really curious about Chinese preventative medicine for a bit now and when my friend said that she was having some back pain, we decided to stop by Chinese Herbs & Acupuncture together. We did call ahead to make an appointment, but I believe that he may also do walk-ins. To start off, you fill out a form with your basic information and main concerns that you want to work on. Then, Dr. Au takes you into his office for a short consultation. He will ask you about what you listed on your form and ask questions to best pin-point your issues. He will also take your blood pressure and pulse. He can tell a lot about your body simply from taking your pulse. I'm really not a needle person so I was a bit anxious but it really wasn't painful. He even connected the needles to electiccurrent and it's a weird feeling at first but it ends up feeling like a deep tissue massage. Everything is clean and while it may not be a bougie spa vibe-- it's still very comfortable. I walked out drinking the Dr. Au kool-aid. I will be back and will be recommending to anyone and everyone. read more

Growing up in Hong Kong, Chinese herbs and acupuncture are nothing new to me. I was a little hesitant to try out an acupuncturist in the U.S., outside of HK or china, but Dr. Au 歐醫師，has proven that you can find good acupuncturists in the U.S. too! To the point - he is precise with where he puts the needles with minimal discomfort. If it's the right spot, you should feel a little numb which was what I felt in almost every needle he placed on me. Realistically, you would not believe me if I say you won't feel anything. It's a needle, but I'd say at first it's similar to getting small pinch from an ant or from your playful yet obnoxious child. Later on, after he hooks up the electrodes to the needles, you'll feel electric current going into your muscles and relaxing them. It's much deeper and more effective than massage. Best of all, I feel great for the next couple days after each session. That's the reason why I and other patients keep coming back. He never prescribed me fresh herbs to cook at home but gave me Chinese herbal pills instead which I was a bit disappointed with. Nonetheless the pills worked so I guess it's OK. Don't expect anything spa like here. As you can see in the pics, it's a dated office with simple furniture and minimal decor (if there's any). Dr. Au is soft spoken and gentle. He speaks English well enough to communicate, but his native language is Cantonese, which I communicate with him in. I read somewhere that the office takes insurance but don't remember what kind, but if you pay cash it's $60 per visit without insurance. Try him out if you need an acupuncturist! Saturday April 5, 2025 I have been here many times in the past for TCM ways with NO side effects. instead of the western medicine ways with PLENTY side effects. A few parking stalls in the back of the building or there is street parking on South King Street in front of the place. He listens to the problems that you have first and then he asks additional questions after for more information to give you the right treatment that is right for you. He recommended herbs instead of acupuncture for my treatment. I fully trust him and I was thinking herbs too. The care and the quality that you get is very good! It is very easy to tell him what is wrong with yourself than going to a regular doctor which is very comforting. The office visit is a wonderful experience from the very start to the very end when you leave. I will definitely be back in 2 weeks. Dr Au is excellent. I don't trust other herbalists and acupuncture as much as. He makes many of his own blends . He helped me w Gout, torn muscles , stomach issues etc. he was. Veryclear that he can't help totally w blood pressure . He always tells me to cut back on salt and take western medicine or I will die . He also tells me to watch diet and lifestyle . So do t think yall can get acupuncture and herbs without changing diet or lifestyle. He doesn't speak good English but understands and can see what's wrong when he looks at you . If you choose to utilize the services offered here, you will get the exact opposite from what you receive at traditional medical clinics or even a acupuncturist who provides low lighting and New Age music gently playing in the background, and btw a price tag that makes alternative medicine prohibitive to many folks. The office is very unassuming, the beds are hand made, and while you're receiving the treatment you can hear local kids walking by telling stories to each other and ambulances announcing their presence. There are jars filled with herbs floor to ceiling and your "prescription" is delivered in a brown paper bag. The doctor is happy and while he struggles with English he seems to be an expert in his trade. I've had a deliberating physical condition which was stopped in its tracks after one session. While it did return it's seemed to be with less intensity. I will keep going back. I highly recommend this business for it's simple and affordable approach to healthcare and lack of concern with approval by insurance companies and multiple tests and paperwork before offering a service. read more

When you feel amazing from the very first therapy...woah! It's no secret that I've been suffering from terrible ankle pain every single day and sense the quality of life slowly fading in many ways. I've done everything from creams, massages and a foot massager all are temporary not close to a remedy. I've even seen my reflection in a store window and I was walking hunched over and was stunned! Realizing it's much more serious than I thought I needed to find a solution to my pain. I go for the herbs. The Doctor knows just what you need for what ails you. Parking is in the back. The procedure is this: Call or walk in to make an appointment because he is very busy. He will sit you down, go over some stuff and create a mixture for you. If you ask him what you received, he will pull down some jars from the shelves and you can take pictures and look up the names. I slept funny one night and had a stiff neck and shoulder for 5 days. It got to the point that I was in pain without even moving, and I didn't want to keep taking pain meds. Massaging and stretching only seemed to make it worse. I'd gone to Chinese doctors a few times growing up, but I hadn't since then because I don't like going to Chinatown. Dr. Au is exactly what I was looking for - a legit Chinese doctor who's not in Chinatown. Clean, not sketch, straightforward, knows what he's doing. I called Dr. Au at 8:30am, and he told me to come in at 11. I arrived early because I was worried about parking, but the 3 spaces in the back plus a couple of open street stalls are more than enough for the area. I sat in the waiting area for a few minutes while completing my new patient form and waiting for Dr. Au to finish his previous patient. He took my blood pressure, looked at my palm and asked a few questions. Then he applied what he said was alcohol on my back, neck and shoulder. Turns out it was some kind of icy hot ointment that was really soothing. He stuck one needle in my forearm and about 8 in my neck, shoulder & back. As my first time going there, I was a bit nervous because I couldn't see what he was doing, but he always made sure I was okay. After inserting the needles and waiting a few minutes, he connected them to the machine that made them vibrate. It was wonderful, like massaging my muscles from the inside. He came back 3 times during the session to ask if I wanted the needles deeper and at a higher frequency. I'd feel the prick and a little bit of pressure when the needles were pushed in more, but nothing really hurt. Next time I'll ask for more intensity earlier on, but I was a little scared because it was my first time. It's definitely not a spa atmosphere, not even as nice as a western doctor's office. There's no AC, but there is a nice cross breeze. You can hear the cars drive by and everything that's going on outside. Yet somehow I managed to almost fall asleep in my session. Could've been the lack of sleep from my neck pain. I was skeptical because although my range of motion improved significantly immediately after the session, I still felt some stiffness and neck pain throughout the rest of day when I turned too much. However, when I woke up the next morning, it was almost 100% normal. There was some tightness in my shoulder, but I think it's because I didn't get the needles as deep in that area. Dr. Au is great. I found this place for my mom when she lifted something heavy and got horrible shooting pain in her left leg (sciatica). Tried things like ice packs, nsaids, massage, stretching, nothing helped. Pain was pretty bad and kept her awake at night. I made this appointment for her on a Tuesday and she had some residual mild pain that night and no more since! It's now been a week and she's back to her old self, still working hard and doing everything she did before. Dr Au is legit the real deal! I wasn't going to write a review because I wanted to be selfish and didn't want him to get too busy for my own sake. However, I needed to share this miracle doctor. I once felt my knee pop and couldn't beat any weight in it. I just walked in and waited. But and he took me In. I could've sworn I needed surgery for my knee. He did Accupuncture and boy was it even more painful when it was done. I hobbled out to my car in even more pain than when I first arrived. I went home and laid down and took a nap. A couple hours later, I swear that o forgot that even injured my knee. Absolutely no pain at all. Best part is that the pain never returned. Months went by and I was just fine. I had a bout of carpel tunnel thought it was arthritis actually and the doctor said yeah we need to take x-rays and probably do surgery you have carpal tunnel. I never write Yelp reviews, but I had such great results from just one visit with Dr. Au that I feel compelled to leave a positive 5 star review. I have never had eczema before covid, but over-washing my hands or some external irritation caused me to have very bad, unbearably itchy eczema on my hands. All I could think about was wanting to scratch my hands, but scratching only made it worse. I was also very embarrassed to show my hands in public, and it's pretty difficult to hide your hands! It started off in just a couple of patches, but was quickly spreading. It was especially bad at night where I would wake up furiously scratching in the middle of the night. I went to the dermatologist and he said that there is no cure and to just keep moisturizing. $200 in eczema hand lotions and soaps later, I still had no relief. I was desperate! I went to see Dr. Au, showed him my hands, answered a few questions, and left with herbal medicine he told me to take twice a day and a topical cream to apply on my hands. I'm not exaggerating - after just ONE night of taking the medicine and applying the topical lotion he gave me, my hands were already much less itchy, the bumps had flattened, and I had so much relief. Having 2 arthroscopic knee surgery on my left knee 12 years ago, I re-injured my knee on a hike in July 2020. My knee was never the same. I had a hard time walking, bending and knee would make cracking sounds also. I would foam roll, stretch, go more massage and it would feel better but after a few days, it would ache again. I was trying to avoid another knee surgery so I decided to just try Acupuncture. Dr. Au is such a quiet Chinese doctor, but know what genus really doing. After the treatment I was still in pain, but the third day, I felt my knee for much better. It was easy foe me to bend my knee without any discomfort. I don't believe in voodoo and fung shui and all that jazz but this little old man made me feel good again!!! We went on a Saturday afternoon and got right in. There's a small parking lot behind the store you can use if street parking is unavailable. After a quick interview with Dr. Au, I told him what issues I was having, he led me to a bed in a little side room and had me lay on my side. The needles did not hurt but I did feel a little prick (my pain tolerance is zero). There was one needle he put in behind my knee that did really hurt, but I think it was a nerve it hit perfectly. I got a total of 12 or so needles. The room is not fancy. The office is shabby. There is zero ambience (I think I've been in nicer bus stations in developing countries). You will hear all the cars and busses roaring by on King street. But this is the place you go for pain relief, not a day spa!! The payment is $49 cash only. He has other herbs and oils you can buy, but he didn't try to up sell us on anything. Dr. Au is the real deal. I found out that my doctor from Straub goes to him when he has issues, so that's a pretty big endorsement for Dr. Au IMO. read more

Located on S King across from Pint + Jigger and Jimbo. Brought my 88 yr old mom in to help with her back pain, a month after a fall resulting in three fractured ribs. Dr Au has a very kind, calm, and gentle spirit. He is efficient as he juggles his appointments for acupuncture, and walk-ins to purchase herbs. I saw that he takes health insurance so I thought it would be covered but hadn't realized that you have to have the right coverage. My bad. I should've known that. Just be prepared to pay the $49 fee, which may be paid in cash or check. At the end of my mom's session, Dr Au prescribed a couple of things to continue helping ease the pain. It all worked. My husband usually goes to his to go clinics who are friends also but they weren't available today so we found this clinic. My husband been here before and liked his experience here. I called about 40 mins before Clinic closing. The Dr. Gong Hong Au took my husband in very last min and we're very grateful. He took his pulse, blood pressure and heart rate then off to treatment. Also asked him some health questions and asked about his symptoms. So now I'm waiting to see how my husband feels afterwards. If you don't have health insurance it's $49 per visit which is still a really good price! There is parking in the back of his Clinic but we got lucky with street parking in the front. I like that he has the real herbs that you need to boil according to his directions. Those are the traditional way of making medicine herbs. I've got to say Dr. Au is very nice. I was experiencing dermatitis (or eczema, not sure) on my arm, hip, neck (it was spreading to other parts of my body). I went to the urgent care first since I was traveling in the mainland and got prescribed with steroid medicine. It worked to a certain extent but the symptom came back after a couple of weeks. Knowing the oriental medicine often works better for skin diseases, I looked for Chinese herbs and found this place. The doctor asked what I have been experiencing, observed my skin, and gave me three sets of pills (two for the skin disease and one for something else, for 7 days, $60 in total). And wow!!! I could see my skin starts healing in 3 days. See my pictures. I also applied some bentonite clay, which seems to have helped lightening up the dark patches. It is almost invisible now after 3 weeks. It is not the doctor's recommendation by the way. Be careful if you decide to use the clay and do a patch test first. In 1995, I was 12 years old and had bouts of hives that would not go away even after going to my doctor and the emergency room. It got really bad one night - where my hives covered my whole body and I was in pain. ER gave me two steroid shots that made the hives temporarily go away for a couple days. My mom finally took me to Dr. Au. He took my pulse and packed some herbs. Once I finished the herbs, my hives were forever gone. I am now 36 and no more hives. Then in 2001, my younger brother tried to do a trick on his skate board only to hurt his leg to the point that he couldn't walk without crutches and a limp. The western doctors couldn't help him, so again, my mom brought my brother to Dr. Au for help. He suggested acupuncture. While my brother was getting his treatment, I was sitting in the back parking lot and heard my brother scream the f word really loudly. In my mind, I thought, oh man, doesn't sound so good, but guess what..my brother walked out without his limp and his leg was forever cured.
