Went here today for the first time. How is that the food can be so bland and dry but then the tortilla is just so soggy? Also, they over filled my burrito and it just instantly fell apart while the employee was rolling it up. And $9 for a burrito? Get out of town! I live near a really nice / expensive mexican restaurant and their burritos are $7.25 with gucamole! I definitely will not be coming back. Never again. This was the worst Chipotle I've ever been to. Restaurant was practically empty when I got there, but most of the tables were dirty. Out of half their ingredients, no black beans, no chips, no veggies, half the meat selection was gone too. Soda machine not working properly, water was trickling from the dispenser it took a minute to fill my cup halfway. The pico de gallo (mild salsa) was all tomatoes. This is the worst Chipotle. It makes me so sad to have bad things to say about a Chipotle as I have loved Chipotle for years. This location never has chips, is always out of at least 2 meats, and typically out of other main ingredients as well. The food is always cold (the rice, beans, and meats). They run out of cilantro and limes as well. I can see this happening right before close (sometimes) but the last 4 times I have gone around 5-6pm and they have been out of so many things. The staff on site are really nice and accommodating. I've been eating here for the past three months and haven't had any problems with the food. My personal favorite is the steak burrito, while a little pricey it tastes really good! I would definitely recommend coming to this location; they are always fast and the banter you get while chatting with staff is alot of fun! Keep up the good work! read more

The worst Chipotle I have ever been to in my life!!!! Really, this place is a joke. The first time I dined was awful. The employees were completely unfriendly, did not know what they were doing, and seemed somewhat like a deer caught in headlights. I ordered a salad, paid for my salad, then I notice they forgot to give me my salad dressing. Went up to the counter and asked if I could get some. "Oh, you wanted salad dressing with your salad? sorry we are out." That would have been a great thing to know before I ordered and paid for salad, don't you think. We wanted to get lunch at Chipotle in Santa cruz but they were temporarily closed, so we had to drive all the way to the nearest one, which was this. When we first walked in, we waited in line for an extensively long amount of time until it was our turn, workers giving looks and were very confused about how to perform their jobs. I began to order when it was my turn, and the lady told me they did not have crunchy tacos. I am gluten free and that just made me not able to eat here, taking away my only option of choice. Then she proceeded to say they did not have chips, OR veggies, with a pretentious attitude. My meal was then moved down the line, everyone seeming confused about what they were doing. My friends ordered as well, their orders being messed up too. My friend got a quesadilla which comes with sides. They forgot the sides and they forgot the quesadilla in the oven and burned it so they had to remake it. My friends burrito was made poorly and was falling apart while she was eating it, also not being able to get any toppings she wanted, they were out of almost EVERYTHING!! Chipotle Mexican Grill is no where near real Mexican food - and it doesn't pretend to be - but sometimes I just feel like a lighter, more healthy version. The essence of Mexican food is there: tortillas, beans (black or pinto), carnitas, carne asada, chicken, rice (jasmine cilantro white or brown-like) and all the usual toppings: pico de gallo, hot sauce, lettuce, peppers, corn, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole (extra $). And you can have your choice in the form of a burrito, burrito bowl, tacos, rice bowl or a salad bowl. They even have options for vegetarians and vegans (of course this is Santa Cruz County). I've had the rice bowls at various times with chicken, carnitas, and the steak. All had good flavor but the steak was tough and gave my jaw a workout - won't order that again. By far, my favorite is the chicken. Yes, the food can be a tad bland but this isn't Mexican food. Put some Tabasco or hot salsa on it if that's what you like, it'll definitely help. Everything used in the restaurant is environmentally sustainable and recyclable; the interior is almost too sparse, in an industrial way. My biggest complaint is the volume of the music played in every store -my hearing is fine thank-you-very-much and the actual music is OK- but the decibel levels really could be taken down a notch or two. It makes it very difficult to hear the person behind the counter, and them you, as you make your way down the line giving them your food choices. Drinks are available via a self-serve fountain and the iced tea is especially good. I wouldn't say that portions are huge but the servers behind the glass partition are not skimpy with the food either. Just ask for a little more or a little less, everyone is very accomodating. I have eaten here a dozen times over two years and among many other issues, they can't wrap burritos or burrito bowls at all. It's basics.... Manager - please take your employees to the Mission district in SF to see how bomber burritos are wrapped tight enough to be thrown like a football and still not leak...your employees lack skills and it's your fault for not training them. Employees - you got a great place and a great job but you all seem bummed, way bummed. Don't be fake, but jeez it's like I hurt your feelings coming to your business....lots of choices besides yours...maybe get a new manager, one that makes you stoked to work at a kick ass food chain I really want to keep eating here but a half dozen other chains do it better. Let me start by saying I am borderline addicted to chipotle, but this is the worst location I have been to, and I've been to plenty. The employees are rude, slow, and barely give you any food. When you go to chipotle you expect the ingredients to be bursting out of the tortilla, but here they are notably much smaller. Why would I pay $9 for a burrito the size of those microwavable ones? Today I had an especially terrible experience. I waited for 5 minutes in line with 2 people in front of me because they had 1 person on the line. The girl in front of me was an employee, she ordered a bowl and a burrito, then proceeded to take at least 5 minutes to order because she wanted extra everything. I was very excited to see Chipotle come to my hometown, but unfortunately I have been sorely disappointed. Both times I went, I ordered the burrito bowl with grilled veggies. Each time after having dinner there, I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache and felt nauseous. Although the food poisoning was mild, it's still never something you want to experience more than once! After it happened the first time, I figured it must have just been a fluke, because I have never had food poisoning from any other Chipotle location. Again, I got home from work when most of Santa Cruz was closed, and decided I was too tired to make something myself! :-( Luckily, I made it to Chipotle with 3 minutes before closing time! I wasn't really in the mood for Mexican, but no fast food, sit-down place or drive across town either. I like the fact that they use fresh/"clean"/organic ingredients. My burrito bowl was so huge, I only ate a third of it! Ok...or maybe it was that hint of lime in the chips, accompanied by guacamole, that kept me going back for more, that really filled me up! This place has gone downhill, but never was as good as river street location imo. I think they get more business and tend to do shoddier job imo. I've heard a lot about Chipotle mainly because of some TV food show. Saw one some place while driving and it looked sterile, very stainless steel. Never really appealed to me and why would you want to eat in a place that looked like that? Then, omg is it true? There's one in Capitola. It was kinda late on a Saturday and we just had to try it. Very disappointed and won't got back especially with real Mexican places on every other corner, that make wonderful food! The menu was so basic, too basic. I get the idea but still, that definitely deserves a - really? LOL. The same food in a different wrap, or no wrap at all, how cliche is that!! The food was only okay. I like the brown rice option and didn't see any re-fried nastiness :) I didn't see any salsa on my food, although it was spicy. Gripes: -They should have chips with a salsa & guac combo. -I think having a rip in the tortilla is fine - it's going to be eaten anyway, especially for a burrito! Why waste time and food? The place seemed clean, only a couple of patrons, cops included. We took our food home. The service was nice. We told her this was our first time and she comped the chips and guac - thanks! Herbie was the only one on the line serving the food (which I'm sure is due to COVID) and was probably faster than having two people! I LOVE Chipotle. Their carnitas and steak burrito bowls (add guacamole! *yes it's fine that it costs more) I've tried this chipotle location twice now, and I've been disappointed both times. First time I placed an online order for me and some others in the office. I arrived late for pick up, but they were still not done. Then, when I did get the food, I had to go back to the cashier to remind them I also payed for 3 drinks the to-go people didn't give me. Unfortunately, I left without checking the bags - they also forgot to give me chips with one of the orders. Double check your bags before you leave! Second time, I ordered from the line and got a steak burrito bowl, my favorite. However the meat was really gristly this time round and I had to spit out many bites of meat. Considering this one of my favorite chains, I'm sad to say this location does not meet the good Chipotle standards. We placed a mobile order last week and there were food items missing and some of the items that were included were made wrong to the point that they could not be eaten. I called the facility directly to let them know what happened and they said they would refund me for the items that were missing and made wrong. I never got a refund so I completed the email survey they sent me with my receipt and also attempted the "Contact Us" section on their website and no one ever got back to me. We will never eat at a chipotle again. This type of customer service is unacceptable in a world where there are so many choices for restaurants. If I could give 0 stars I would. Received burnt chicken, and didn't see it until I got home since I placed it on the app. Went back to see if I could get a refund, and the Service manager said he couldn't do anything about it, contact support. I was surprised he didn't even seem to care at all. I then asked again if I could speak to his manager and he said no, can't do anything. He kept saying, "it's out of my hands" and rolling his eyes. I showed him a picture of our burnt chicken, and he literally goes "well, it's cooked over temperature. So nothing I can do about it". He knew it was burnt but didn't care at all. I called him out for his rudeness and horrible customer service, and he had the audacity to say "How would you like it if I went to your job and complained?" This place has made a dramatic turnaround from how it used to be a few months ago. I used to try to go to other chipotles if I could because of the vibe I got from the associates. Being a chipotle was all they had going for them. Recently I reluctantly went to the 41st location for convenience reasons and brought my roommate. I didn't know he had never been to a chipotle before... As I am explaining the wonders of their burrito bowl, a gentleman named Chris walked up and started sharing my enthusiasm of a burrito bowl with my roommate. The only thing I can honestly complain about, is the unpredictable and ever changing portion size, I actually think I would have a better chance of predicting the weather this time next year. For those who haven't boarded the Chipotle train, there's a reason they're everywhere you wanna be.... I can only speak on behalf of the salad with their grilled chicken- because it's insanely good, and therefore the only thing I ever order. In addition they provide this amazing balsamic-ish salad dressing which has me thinking "who knew salads could be so delish" (I prefer not to consider the reality that this isn't in fact a health food). The 41st location has a nice outdoor seating area, perfect to watch all the mall goers run stop signs and fight to find the closest parking spot. read more

How can one not like fresh salsa, warm tortilla and yummy chicken and steak tacos!!! It is probably not authentic Mexican food, with lettuce and corn in the tacos, but I really like them!!! Taste so refreshing!!! Tortilla so soft it melts in your mouth. The beans have such wonderful texture. Try adding BOTH pinto and black to your burrito! ohsogoood. The cilantro-lime rice is full of dynamic and zest. Add fresh tomato salsa, white cheddar cheese, a sprinkle of corn, guacamole (but still good without!), a slob of sour cream, EXTRA Romaine lettuce, and LOTS AND LOTS OF CHIPOTLE TABASCO SAUCE. I was EXTREMELY happy there was a Chipotle opening up in Santa Cruz, or technically Capitola. Unfortunately, this is by far the WORST Chipotle I have ever been to. It may be because they are new but every time I go there and I am in line, it takes forever. They either have too many people making the food or too little. Someones burrito ALWAYS rips because they stuff it with too much food and they have to end up putting a double tortilla wrap over it. Their portions are small and their utensils are always out so you have to ask them for some.
