Came for some exercise after spending the prior day in the car driving to upstate NY. There are multiple trails. I'm not an experienced hiker so I would say I'd prefer more signage or trail markers but overall a beautiful location! If you are looking for giant waterfall, this is the place to be. It is a short hike about half a mile to the base of the falls. Lots of steps and a bit steep due to the height of the falls. There is $5 parking fee. It's a good rest place if you are in the middle of a long drive and it's close to many food options. read more

What a beautiful spot for a quick hike! The route wasn't paved, and there are steps. So it's not ideal for strollers or wheelchairs. We didn't do the entire hike, but you don't need to do the complete hike to see the falls. We had 4 kids in our group (ages 1,3,4, and 6). We carried the 1 year old, and the other kids all walked. A few steps were a bit higher, but they were able to walk the steps on their own for the most part. You can dip your feet at the bottom of the falls too! My kids also loved the butterflies! We noticed they had milkweeds and other plants to help support various butterflies! Definitely worth a quick visit if you are nearby! read more

This local waterfall is one of our favorite places to visit. The views are absolutely incredible, and we love exploring the many trails around the area. There's something for everyone, too! There is a playground with a sandpit for kids, a nice pavilion, and plenty of spots to enjoy a picnic. Parking is available in metered lots, but it's free if you have a state park pass. The waterfalls change with the seasons and weather, which makes every visit a little different. One thing to keep in mind lately is the increase in ticks, so just come prepared. Overall, such a beautiful and peaceful place to spend time outdoors. read more

Hard not to give a 5 to nature and this is no exception. We missed peak fall foliage (I imagine the views would be even more spectacular), but the falls are the star! We headed down the trail from the overlook - although a fair amount of steps, not overly difficult for this 'slightly older' hiker. The well-placed bridge at the bottom of the falls affords fantastic views. We spent quite a bit of time framing up shots and just soaking in the sound of the water. In something unusual in my experience, there's a bench near the bridge in case you'd like to sit and reflect for a few minutes. It was the first day of Nov - chilly & cloudy, so it wasn't crowded, but a few people happened by during our hike. Great little hike and picturesque park - was worth the detour to stop by! read more

Easy hike to do! Start by the viewing platform and walk/hike your way around. It was beautiful coming up the road, you could see the falls before getting there. There is a secondary trail that leads beyond the road bridge atop the falls, it leads to another road. If you turn left and walk alongside it you'll get back to the main entrance of the park across the road. Just be careful as cars may be coming and going. I had seen such gorgeous pictures of this location for a long time and while I was home this summer, many of the things we would normally do were cancelled, so we got outside a bunch more! We made the drive over here on a weekday afternoon. It was easy to find. The parking lot was quite a mess and desperately needs re-paving. There are self serve payment stations to cover the cost of admission/parking but we couldn't get them to work on this day! (Maybe thats why they have no $ to pave the lot?). There are porto potties to use for bathrooms. There are several picnic shelters. If you have small children, older, or handicapped members of your party, be warned, there are a lot of stairs, and some of them are quite tedious. My older mother almost did not want to proceed and she is in really good health. To simply see the top of the falls there are 2 sets of wider stairs that are in good shape. If you wish to go down to the bottom of the falls, which has the best view, that is when it becomes more challenging. There are multiple sets of stairs and somewhat narrow steep trails to walk down. For me alone they were ok, but with 2 dogs, it was more difficult. Because of how narrow the walk is, it was hard to social distance from others walking up or down in the same area, so bring your mask! Overall the distance to the bottom is 10 mins or so. The challenge was worth it as we all made it to the gorgeous views at the bottom. There is a nice bridge over the river that gives you the most central view of the falls. After enjoying the view and listening to the calming sound of the water, we decided to proceed back the way we came, instead of taking our chances with finishing the loop and going back up the other side of the hill. read more

A great place to visit and hike, but if you don't have a sense of direction and/or a compass be careful on the smaller trails cause you can easily get lost There are picnic tables and grills available to picnic, they are at least 6 feet apart, the ones under the roof are closed because they're too close together The trail with the Best field was closed for some reason, it's normally only closed in the winter not sure why they didn't open it up this summer You're technically supposed to pay for parking however it's not enforced (I actually called the department of parks and recreation to get the scoop because a lot of people were confused) there's an automated machine you can use your credit card it's three dollars during the week and five dollars on weekends, but since it's not enforced it's a matter of conscience read more

I can see this place being fun during the summer season. The waterfall is huge and looks refreshing during hot weather. The hike itself is pretty short. Just 15 to 20 minutes from the parking lot, therefore the trail is easy. It's a slope down on the left side of the fall. You can see the top of the fall near the parking lot. Chittenango Falls State Park is such a gorgeous place. It's not so much of a "hike", more of a walk down to the bottom of the falls and back up again. The entire walk will take you... maybe... 30 minutes if you're in shape lol. There's a few hills as you walk back up towards the top of the falls, but nothing too serious. This place is ALWAYS PACKED on the weekends. I would get there early unless you want to be stuck behind 100 people as you walk down towards the bottom of the waterfall. There are also pavilions where people have parties, and a nice swing set for the kids. Dog friendly which is always a plus. I always go to Owera Vineyards after coming here which is about 10 minutes from the falls. It's an awesome winery with outdoor seating and delicious food. Highly recommend checking out both! read more

I went to Chittenango two falls ago, and was pleasantly surprised! When we drove up, we did not expect much, but once you get over the edge, the falls are incredibly impressive! We only walked down to the bridge by the falls and admired them, but there are more options for hiking I believe! Chittenango Falls is the prettiest spot in all of Madison County, at least I think so. :-) and it has been a few years since I was last there, so after a recent trip to Cazenovia with my Momma... we took a little detour to the falls. The park is easy to find- just cruise down Route 13 {from either Cazenovia or Chittenango) and you literally cannot miss it. There is parking available either on a small side street or in an official {gravel} parking lot. Parking is supposedly $3/weekdays and $5/weekends but on the day we visited there was a sign covering up the parking meter which meant we parked for free. It's a small lot- but a decent amount of cars can fit... I wandered rather quickly past the playground and small picnic area to the real star of the park: the waterfall. After checking out the map located near the top of the hill I made my way down the winding path to the bottom of the falls... be careful- there are stairs and there aren't any rails. And I highly suggest wearing sneakers if you're going to walk up/down the trail. The trail is a bit rough... branches, rocks, bumps in the dirt. But once at the bottom- your journey down the hill will have been soooo worth it. The falls are gorgeous. And the bridge located at the bottom of the hill allows you the best view of both the falls and the river it flows into. We visited at the beginning of spring where the trees & flowers hadn't fully bloomed yet... I imagine right now the area surrounding the falls is just as beautiful. Nature at it's best. A drive out to Chitt Falls is absolutely worth it. read more

The view of the falls is absolutely gorgeous, which is why I have this spot a four star rating; other than the falls there really isn't much to this state park. When I first arrived I was confused because there wasn't anyone to pay at the entrance. I soon realized that this park had a pay station. I had looked online to see if this was a park I could visit with my Empire Pass (gets me into state parks for free) and it was. However, the pay station didn't indicate what to do if you had the Empire Pass. I thought this was a tad annoying to deal with of all things. I was really looking forward to the hike, which was good, but know that the trails are really short and are not marked well. The best trails are A and B which take hikers around the gorgeous view of the falls. They are definitely worth seeing. Other than that there isn't much to this park. read more

Beautiful Falls with a view available to all! This is a must see when in the area! Small state park open 7AM to dusk. Paved trail to falls overlook and paved trail to wonderful benches, picnic tables with grills, and several picnic shelters. This an accessible park for all abilities! However, the lower falls trails and the trail that runs along the Chittenango Creek requires a steady climb down then up. Rock stairs are there, but slippery dependent on the conditions. Fun for young kids and more capable adults! Hiking here is short spurts, but the scenery is great. Wonderful spot for lunch or bbq dinner, especially on the weekends. *Side Note: This park only has porta johns. So be prepared for that. And listen up folks, do NOT throw your trash in a porta john! Nature in all its wonderful glory! This is a well cared for spot, right off the main road. The falls are spectacular and the three mile walk was enjoyable. We saw some joggers, other walkers like us, mountain bikers and lots of perfect picture spots. We went in late November and we hope to be back during the summer. I liked that thete was plenty of parking and picnic benches scattered at the emtrance. A nice way to spend a few hours without the distraction of cell phones or video games, just an appreciation of the nany sights and sounds of pure and real nature. Listening to the falls and the stream is beautiful! I think we all need this type of break once in a while, plus you get your 10,000 steps in easily for the day! Time just flew by and it really helps to clear your head. Check it out next time you are in Cazenovia, New York. read more

This is one of my favorite little state parks in central New York. Donated by a purchase from the local Lincklaen family back in the early 1920s early 1930s, Chittenango Falls became a preserved state park. The CCC lived a couple of years on site, building pavilions, maintenance housing. They cleared paths and helped make the park more safe for visiting. There are large acres of grassy parks for picnicking. There are fences around the falls that you can hike along and take pictures. The path around the falls is close to a mile with you finishing up crossing a bridge that overlooks the falls. There is endangered habitat and wildlife around the Falls area. Please obey the signs as to not disturb the delicate ecosystem in the Falls area, so that it can continue to be preserved for generations to come. Chittenango Falls can look different through the seasons. So pretty. Pets are allowed and must be leashed at all times and picked up after. There is a pre-paid parking meter on site in the parking area, if the gate is up and guard house is closed. Honor system. read more

The view from the bottom is just beautiful. I spent at least an hour down there just looking at it ... and boy the things I saw. I saw a family trample past the large "No Trespassing Endangered Species Habitat" signs. I saw that same family drop their bags of chips and Caprisuns on the bridge over the river like it was their personal garbage can. What a bunch of garbage people. If you behave like this, you are disgusting little curmudgeons. When people look at you, they are not thinking nice things. No one thinks highly of morons who litter at State or National Parks. You are gross parents setting a gross example for your children. If I had been closer to you when this occurred, I'd have ripped you a new one in a public place and I have no shame ... so it would've been embarrassing. Instead, I just picked up after you. It was lovely carrying your trash around with me while trying to enjoy the falls. Also, why do you need to eat chips while looking at a waterfall that took a couple of minutes to hike to? You're not hiking the Grand Canyon. I love food too, but I don't need to eat while doing everything. In closing, show some respect for the land around you. If you have the energy to hike with a full bag of chips, you have the energy to hike back with an empty bag. read more

Spectacular waterfall and cascades in an out-of-the-way place we would never have found without our American friends who took us there. There are different observation areas and footpaths, some of which take you into the rest of the park. There are many rare species of plantlife too and various sign boards dotted about to give you more information and know what to look for! There are even coral fossils in the rocks to find.
