The seasoning of the pork galbi is just so on point. It's super tender and perfectly charred. The wait is a little long because I think they ran out of rice? The restaurant was empty but we waited almost 40 mins for our food to come out. I've enjoyed an amazing and complete dinner here during NYE and I will definitely be back! The soondubu (silken tofu stew) is super flavorful with great debt. I'll probably get a different type of protein if at all, as stews by definitely doesn't use the most tender cuts of meat, but wow was the stew filling and had such great warmth that radiated throughout my soul! Banchan (included side dishes with entree) I felt was generous, as you now see other restaurants like Asian fusion or Japanese restaurant charge $5-11 for half the portion of banchan, which is crazy. Loved the pickled dishes and salads to start the meal or to add a bit of kick during my main meal. Kimchi here was legit too. Corn cheese was huge and cheese was laid on thick and super generously, great for the cheese pull shot, but I would've preferred it more well-done to burn off the excess liquid or just being made with less mayo. But that's just my preference trying to eat this alone, I mean if you're in a group you'll appreciate these portions! I'll have to try their combo dinners next time and see how their bulgogi or short ribs compare. The freshly served soft tofu stew and the hot stone pot rice were delicious. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The service from the older ladies working there was unfriendly and felt like they didn't want to be there. Compared to other Korean restaurants, both the service and the side dishes were far below standard. The kimchi was especially disappointing. It tasted worse than store-bought kimchi, had a bitter flavor, and was nowhere near the quality you would expect from a Korean restaurant. It didn't pair well with the soft tofu stew at all. The side dishes were also very poor. Plain boiled cabbage with ssamjang and broccoli drenched in watery mayonnaise were some of the worst banchan I've ever had. The fish cake was dry, shriveled, and had no freshness or shine. To make things worse, we were only given one salad even though each person was supposed to receive one. When we pointed this out, the staff simply said we could ask for more if we needed it. If every customer is supposed to receive a salad, it should have been served correctly from the beginning instead of making us ask for what was already included. For the price, the overall quality simply isn't worth it,. I've been to Cho Dang Gol a handful of times now and have seen noticeable improvements in food quality and service. It has since become one of my go-to Korean restaurants in Katy Asia Town. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The interior is spacious and clean. Chopsticks, utensils, and napkins can be found in the drawer built into the table. There's also a service bell you can ring to get your server's attention. For soondubu, I usually order the dumpling soondubu with mild spice. It's not too salty and has just a slight kick. The soondubu comes with white rice and an egg. The tofu is soft, and the plump, bite-sized dumplings soak up the flavorful broth wonderfully. Lately, I've been ordering the bibim naengmyeon. The noodles are very chewy. The gochujang sauce is savory and not too spicy. I really like the thinly sliced apples and cucumbers on top. You can adjust the taste to your liking with vinegar and mustard. The side dishes are okay, though I find them to be a little too salty for my taste. The utensils (takeaway chopsticks, metal spoons, napkins) are in the drawer on the side of the table. There's a button to push for assistance, but the workers only attended to it a few times. The banchan had a variety of flavors. There was typical Korean side salad, fishcakes, and soy sauce-pickled jalapeño-cucumber-daikon. The broccoli salad was soft and seemed to have tofu mixed in. There was blanched green cabbage with a spicy side dip. The kimchi was crunchy. I got the combo tofu soup and grilled mackerel. The seafood (medium-sized clam, shrimp, mussels) tofu soup (hot) was flavorful and came with a raw egg to crack. It had chopped onion and zucchini. The seafood pieces were a good sizeand tender. The mackerel half was huge, thick, moist, and crispy. The flavor was really good after a few days too. It was accompanied by sliced white onion and a lemon wedge. We've been coming since they opened and we still enjoy it everytime ! The servers are always so nice and sweet towards us. We got a couple of items during this visit but the one that stood out was the spicy raw marinated crabs, it was amazing, the quality was fresh, it wasn't fishy at all if anything it the actual crab meat was quite sweet which paired well with their sauce and I don't know if you can tell by the photo but they give you a lot. Came in at 9:30p and restaurant closes at 10pm. They actually already shut down the kitchen. Since we were super hungry and only wanted tofu soup (which is incidentally the only thing they will serve), we asked the waitress to let us come in. Luckily, we were seated but we got the feeling that they felt they were doing us a favor. The dining tables have drawers that contain utensils and napkins. There is also a button that is used to call waitstaff. Tofu soup came piping hot..accompanied with steaming rice in the hot pot. Be careful not to burn yourself. Soup had loads of tofu and enough meat. There is also a small but good selection of banchan and the fried fish was meaty. We came right as they opened and they were still setting up for the day. They brought us cups of water and then a cup of ice later to put into the water (was already cold but not ice cold I guess?). Utensils and things we might need were in a side drawer under the table. She brought out things we needed but we were able to grab additional napkins and chopsticks as we needed. There was a bell that you could push to ask for her server. It basically chimed over the speakers and then read your table number so the whole restaurant knew you needed help. Lol. We did not use it after figuring that out after the first time. We ordered the combo dumpling tofu soup and the fried dumplings and then another bowl of the regular (beef and pork) tofu soup. The combo came with five side dishes that were okay. We did not eat that much of it. Our soups came with the crispy Korean rice, a raw egg that we cracked into the bowl, and a small salted fried fish. The soups were really good and went well with the rice and fish. There wasn't that much meat in the soups and about four dumplings in the soup, but a ton of tofu. It was a really filling meal. I would come here again to try more dishes! I came here again today and while the dumpling soup and the vegetarian soup was good, I was in a shock of finding a live small cockroach scurrying across the ladle of the tteokbokki and onto our table. Food here is alright but service is quick and the ahjummas are nice. We ordered the mandu, tonkatsu, rose tteokbokki, and naengmyeon. The tonkatsu was crispy and came out hot, but there was nothing special about it. The rose tteokbokki was a lot creamier than I thought it would be, I do prefer a little more spice to it, but it was perfect for my friend. I went with some friends for a weekend lunch. We got the goochang soon tofu and the donkatsu. Overall, the interior was very clean and neat. It reminded me of restaurants in Korea. I loved how they had a bell on the side of the table to order. The silverware and napkins were all on the side of the table as well. I enjoyed having the complementary barley tea for waters. They give you the option of hot or cold. The side dishes were all super delicious and I loved how they gave such a variety. Especially liked the fried fish and the potato salad. My tofu soup was a little burnt at the bottom, which was a little disappointing. I got the spicy and my friend got the regular spice and they were all a good level of spice. Solid Korean tofu soup restaurant, but unfortunately not the same Cho Dang Gol as the popular New York location. Nor is it to be confused with Cho Dang Village in Dallas. While they serve a larger variety of dishes than our existing Korean soondubu restaurants in Houston, such as grilled pork ribs, pork cheese katsu, and raw marinated crab to name a few, it still feels like they fell short in a couple areas. The LA Galbi, the standard go to dish for any restaurant with kbbq on the menu, was perfectly flavored and juicy. BUT when you order it with the combo, it only comes with FIVE pieces... for $30!! Yes you get a couple side dishes and a huge bowl of rice. But $30 for 5 pieces of meat and a soup with cheap frozen veggies/seafood is not a fair deal in my books. BCD in Dallas give you 6 pieces in their combo for $25 lunch price. SGD in Houston gives you 6 pieces for $28 dinner price. Both from my personal experience, and both serve you just as many side dishes and rice. The Spicy Pork Ribs was tender, but not quite what I expected. Part of it was due to my personal taste of not being able to eat spicy, but I was also expecting the meat to be a bit more juicy chewy rather than falling apart like pulled pork. The LA galbi we had was a 8/10 - flavor was AMAZING but I can't justify giving it any higher because we didn't get much meat on it. It seems like scraps to us. Chodangol Tofu Village is a Korean restaurant located in the Katy Asia Town. I have been a couple of times and had their LA Galbi, bulgogi, kimchi soup, and seafood pancake. My favorite is their LA Galbi. The meat is very tender, soft, and seasoned well. They have a combo for the LA Galbi and soup, and I like to get it with the kimchi soup. I got the medium and hot spice levels. Although spice level is subjective, I would say that the hot is not that spicy and more of a low mild for me. If you like something spicier, I suggest going a higher spice level. The medium spice level did not have much of a kick. The first time I went the soup was boiling hot, which was perfect. However, on the second visit, their soup was warm, and my egg unable to be cooked/poached(?) after cracking it in the warm broth, which was disappointing. The bulgogi was okay and was a smaller portion than I expected. The side dishes were okay, as well. The pancake was crispy and soft in the middle and could feed about 2-3 people. They also had cold noodles on their menu, but when we went and asked for it on two different occasions, it was still not available yet. They are pretty busy on the weekends, but we were able to be sat easily each time. There are limited workers, so service can be a bit slow. They also give you a Yakult at the end, which was nice! I came here on a bustling Friday evening and enjoyed the classic A1 tofu soup. What I enjoyed about this place was the attention to detail. This included the tasty banchan, unique sticky white rice cooked in a fun container, and salted fish included as part of the tofu soup. My dining companions enjoyed the bulgogi as well as the cheese/pork katsu, which came with corn and cabbage. Service was prompt with utensils conveniently in a drawer at each table. The ambiance was aesthetic and service was prompt. I also appreciated the mini Yakult bottles they provided as a nice touch at the end of the meal. I thought the kimchi tofu soup was a little bland, and there wasn't enough soup to tofu ratio for my liking. Rose tteokbokki was good, and there was a LOT of it. LA galbi that I received was too fatty for me, but the bulgogi was really nice - perfectly balanced. Not a huge fan of the kimchi side dish, but other side dishes were good. Upon entry the first thing I noticed was that the restaurant is very spacious. I ordered the C2: Bulgogi and Kimichi Tofu Soup combo. I will say that their side dishes or banchan is average. Their kimichi was a little bland but the fish cakes were excellent. Additionally, they also bring the meat dishes before the soup and I prefer they brought it all out together. The tofu kimichi soup is probably top #2 in Houston and the bulgogi was right up there in quality as well. Overall would visit again if Houston wasn't so far from Houston. read more

Cho Dang Gol has a pretty flavorful and spicy soondubu. It was garlicky, savory, and full of good flavors. I quite liked the dumplings they used as well. The rice that was served with it was very close to being undercooked though. As for the fried mackerel, I appreciate that it was easy to separate the meat from the bones, but it wasn't anything special in terms of flavor. I feel like it didn't taste super fresh either. They specialize in silken tofu soup, which is extra soft soy bean tofu that's cooked in a hot stone pot in a spicy broth. They also offer a long list of other Korean dishes which is nice for people looking to eat something else other than silken tofu soup. However, your best deal is to order a combo: tofu soup plus entree, which can be shared between two people. We ordered a combo: tofu soup and fried mackerel (half filet), a spicy squid dish, and a seafood pancake. The tofu soup and fried mackerel were delicious, but there was a lot of monosodium glutamate. The spicy squid dish was okay. The seafood pancake left much to be desired, as we wished it was a little more crispy and less batter. The complimentary banchan side dishes were decent but not traditional homestyle level of care/love. Korean food used to be very affordable 5-10 years ago, but the pricing has increased quite a bit. Expect to pay $20-30 per person at this Korean restaurant, if you plan on getting appetizers/shareables. Overall, this is a good addition to Katy Asia Town. I was in a hurry, but the woman who took my order could tell I wanted my order quickly and made sure to get my order to me within 10-15 minutes. She helped package my food really nicely, and the food was still warm when I drove back to Austin immediately after! I really liked the tofu soup. It tasted quite good and had a lot of flavor and seafood. I also enjoyed the side dishes. LA galbi you can never go wrong with, and Korean rice is just superior. A friend of ours recommended this place to us, and we were not disappointed! We ordered the Original Soondubu, and Bulgoki Bibimbap. As you can see we cleaned up! The banchan(side dishes) were excellent and kept refilled without asking! Kimchi had that good homemade taste like my grandma used to make! The rice came in its own cookpot which allowed us to have nuroenggi (the cooked hard rice at the bottom of pot). Remember to ask for hot water to pour in the empty rice to enjoy! The tables were just like Korea too, with the little drawer for napkins and silverware, but that didn't stop them from checking on us and delivering excellent service! The location is across the street from Hmart, located on hwy 99. The food is good, especially my order of the bulgogi and octopus hot fried rice. But the order is for one but the size seems for a portion for two people. I have read about the side dishes and this is my take. I feel the restaurant knew the main dishes spices and tastes were strong so to off set it, they made the side dishes less strong. So if it is too spicy or whatnot they would be able to eat the side dishes to help with the flavors. On regards to service and ambience, it was really nice but some tables, you will need to be careful. If you touch or press on it a little, I feel like it would topple over.
