A mixture of food that has been sitting on a hot plate for too long in a massive canteen, and stuff that's actually nice when it has been brought out fresh. This particular Chinese buffet will satisfy all of you who like the deep fried offerings of your local take out. Chips, spring rolls, spare ribs, onion rings, battered chicken balls are abound at East. East is one of those places that "on the interwebs" is lauded as being amazing. That it isn't, but it's not dire either. It certainly didn't have the excellent customer service that is claimed elsewhere. There wasn't a high chair for my little girl and they made us leave the pram in an unsecured area. In my humble opinion there are much better Chinese food establishments out there, but if you are in the town centre, have no kids, or kids over the age of 5, and want to stuff your face full of spring rolls and chips, it will do.

The Tables are reasonably spaced out and clean with baby high chairs and a traditional bar area for a quiet drink or somewhere to wait in comfort whilst your booked table becomes free. Customer service was great - polite, efficient and friendly. I appreciated the fact that, having arrived on a Sunday evening with no booking, there was a 40 minute wait until a restaurant table became free so they asked myself and my 4 guests if we would like to stay seated at the comfortable table in the bar area which they then set up for food. Full marks for initiative. Drinks came quickly followed by the food all within a reasonable time period. In a way, that didn't matter as they had an eat-as-much as you like salad bar which had an excellent and fresh selection. The only let-down was the food. A number of the portions were very small (e.g. 3 small onion rings) and they decided to replace the sweet corn with peas without saying anything. The bill was about £50 for four adults and a child. All in all, a great place.

I do like this place for a number of reasons…read more Firstly the staff are great which is always helpful and are quite chatty. I believe its family run, and, the guy whom I can only assume is the Dad, always takes time to banter with my parents in Hindi no less, which they appreciate, and find amusing. The food is good, a decent (yeah i know thats a stupid adjective) indo-chinese mix and a high amount of variety for the Veggies in the group (ie pretty much everyone!). Its also not too expensive (cant give you an amount cos my father-in-law paid - wooh!!), and you cant go wrong with reasonably priced beers :) The service is bare quick (yep, I said 'bare', but its East London so Im allowed), and this place is always quite busy, so bookings for large groups may be a good idea. The deep-fried food was a bit too deep fried/greasy for me so I stayed away from some of the aubergine stuff my wife talks about in her review. Would I come back? Already have :)
