The house we moved into was vacant for 5 months, and soon after we moved in we noticed a mouse problem. We were naturally very nervous and hoped HomeWorks would resolve the issue as it was preexisting. My husband and I personally purchased about $70 worth of pest control, and after submitting receipts to management they credited our rent for the following month. They were very reasonable, understanding, and helpful throughout the whole process. The only frustration I had was that the house was grimy/dirty/filthy when we moved in. The company does a "commercial cleaning", however the floors were filthy, and there were COPIOUS amounts of dog hair throughout the house. When I mopped the basement the bucket had thick mud at the bottom, even after 4 times mopping. I had to clean for a week straight-- scrubbing banisters, sweeping, and mopping multiple times before we felt comfortable unpacking. As a whole, HomeWorks is a decent place to lease from. If you read an especially terrible review, keep in mind that 9/10 times it's bitter tenants airing out their dirty laundry, for reasons that were likely their own fault in the first place. HomeWorks management are NOT slumlords.

At first, the seller initially refused to make any repairs at all, and said that I could back out of the closing altogether if this was unacceptable. But Laurie would not allow that to stand. With my approval and her insistence, Laurie managed to convince the seller to pay half of the costs to repair the windows. That saved me several hundreds of dollars! Laurie truly will go above and beyond the call of duty in order to ensure that her customers get the best deal possible, with no hidden surprises! A sibling was named executor in the will and so was the one to interview realtors and select one to list and sell the condo. Denise was selected to be our realtor. We signed a contract with Denise/Cressy and /Everett on May 24, 2022. Cressy and Everett, in my opinion, has had a great reputation in South Bend so I was happy with the choice. Things started going sideways the next day when Denise had the wrong asking price on the listing. After that, she had my email address wrong 5 times so I was missing out on critical information regarding the condo. A sibling kept forwarding the emails to me, and telling Denise she had wrong email addresses. I also mailed/texted Denise and told her she had wrong email addresses for me. She got one sibling's email address wrong as well. There was a number of different email addresses that were being used. Denise's reason each time was not having her glasses with her. Denise also had my phone number wrong 3 times (I thought it was 4 but I only find documentation of 3 times, so 3 times it is). It was the missing glasses reason again. Then I went to the title company a few days early to sign the closing paperwork. Denise emailed me the night before (the original date I was supposed to sign) that she would be showing up at the closing. I didn't check emails that night so I emailed her back that morning that I had already signed the paperwork. She called me and ripped me a new one, telling me that I should have told her I signed the paperwork early, that she had spent 30 minutes driving to the title company. I told her that was the title company's job, not mine. She mentioned that she knew a sibling and I were unhappy with her. I told her that was true and went through the list of issues (listed above). I told her I had never had so many problems with a title company and realtor before. Right before she hung up on me (who hangs up on a client, no matter how upset one is?), she told me I hadn't shown her "grace". I thought I had as I had put up with all the mistakes she had made. I decided to not rate Denise and to let it go, showing some "grace" towards Denise. But then she sent a thank you email to my siblings, and not to me. One third of her commission came from me! This rating would have been one star except for Lindsay. Denise went on vacation and Lindsay helped us out while Denise was gone. Our initial buyer backed out on his offer. Lindsay handled getting the condo back on the market quickly. In talking with Lindsay, she was professional, knowledgeable and personable. I'd like my 1/3 of Denise's fee back.

The few times we had to call maintenance, it was always DAYS before someone came out to fix anything. I work from home and I'm in meetings most of the day, and the maintenance guy was there installing a new water heater. He was on the phone with one of the girls from the office (had her on speaker phone) cussing up a storm and gossiping about other people. Completely unprofessional. The biggest issue started when we had a small fire in our kitchen. According to the fire marshall, the fire started because the stove in our rental was decades old and there was no source of ventilation above the stove at all. The fire left us without power, and all we needed was an electrician to be sent out to inspect and turn the power back on. At one point, they sent their "maintenance guy" out again to take a look. Well, not only did he not turn on the power, but he actually SHUT OUR WATER OFF while we were there without saying anything to us. This whole time, by the way, they had put a lockbox on our door with a key in it so I guess whoever had the code could get in whenever they want. In the end, it took them nearly a week to get our power back on. In the meantime, we were living in our house without power in March, all $400 of our new groceries in our fridge went bad, and we had to spend a couple of nights in a hotel. Of course, this was of no concern to them, nor did they offer to put us up anywhere while repairs were made. We were left without a working stove for over a month. Luckily, there is a clause in our contract that allowed us to break our lease early if there were damages caused to the premises that deemed it partially unusable. I would say that not being able to cook meals would be unusable, but of course, they "disagree" lol and are still trying nickel and dime us as much as they possibly can. Oh and if I didn't already mention, we rented from Central Management Realty for a year and a half and always paid on time. Please consider this review and all of the others here and save yourself the headache and rent from a company that has a competent owner and employees.

They won't work through third parties, so I had to ask my manager to fill out paperwork manually and turn it in. It's summer and it's slow at work, so he had time for that, but other managers might not be able to do that so beware. After a solid month of working with the company, we finally got a phone call on this past Saturday with them asking when we could bring in the deposit. The company was closed when we returned the call. Sunday they were closed. Finally, Monday, my boyfriend called to talk to them. After a month's worth of constant contact, they told us that they had already moved on and someone was coming in with their own deposit within the hour. They had not attempted to contact my number, only my boyfriend's, and they did not attempt to call us during their open hours that day. They never once got in contact with us- we called practically daily in order to know the status of our paperwork and I even came into their office on my day off in order to completely understand where we were at. We have sacrificed so much time and money in running around for these people, we have to move out of our apartment at the end of this week, and now have no place lined up to go. They didn't even offer us a phone call to tell us that we wouldn't be getting the house like they had told us they would on the phone, they emailed me (funny because they couldn't pick up a phone and call my number). We are very rational, easy to work with people and this company dragged us through every obstacle possible. If you want to be on your phone with them constantly and compete viciously and constantly with other people, go ahead.For me, 0/10, I don't even slightly recommend their services.
