Yummm found this place on Yelp and stopped by to check it out! It's on the smaller side with mostly tables for 2 and 3 tables for 4. I got their pick 2 rice bowl with eel and minced pork. It was really yummy and had a good amount of food. Keep in mind they charge for a Togo box!

Literally a hole in the wall that makes claypot rice and the most amazing Portuguese egg tarts. I'd come here just for the egg tarts. The claypot rice is delicious and comes fast - I enjoyed the preserved duck and sausage one the best.

    Writing Alhambra 有一家臘味飯店,已經營業兩年了。我昨天第一次去吃,果然沒讓我失望。味道非常好,價格合理,環境舒適,服務也很親切。特別推薦葡撻,真的很好吃,絕對不會讓你失望!

I was in need of a solid, nourishing Chinese soup and this place popped up. Super cute old Hong Kong feel. Very limited seating in the main room with some additional seating in a hallway. There are different featured soups per day. The soup I had on a Wednesday did not taste deep enough but the star ended up being the Claypot. I also tried the sugarcane herbal beverage and I would skip that next time. I will go for the Claypot again and try a different soup next time. Sharp servers

Clay Pot Rice w/ Minced Pork & Salted Fish

4 stars Came here with mom to try their claypot rice b/c we love this dish. But, we rarely ever order it at other restaurants. Not many restaurants make it right...the right way is to have crispy rice at the bottom. And, lo and behold, there was crispy rice at the bottom of the pot! Their menu is limited to specialty soup and claypot rice. My mom vouches for the soup being of good quality, so I'd say it's worth trying if anyone is interested in herbal-y soups. For the claypot rice ($13.95), we ordered the Chinese sausage and preserved pork belly in one and, for the other, steamed minced pork and salted fish. I'd recommend the Chinese sausage and the steamed pork, but I'd skip the salted fish. Also, shout out for the condiments - the sweet soy sauce pair well with the rice and the chili crisps were great! There is a beverage refrigerator filled with familiar and unfamiliar beverages. However, the restaurant is too small to really feel comfortable. It was also pretty hot inside...A/C on low probably. Interior decor was fun to look at. It definitely felt like 1940s/50s Shanghai. The service is just not there. My mom and I were never given water even after the lady AND man asked us what we wanted to drink. Only 1 other table got their water. Mine and another table got no water. When ordering, the lady took our order behind the cash register...I didn't want to shout, so I went over to order at the counter. I'd come back for to-go orders, but probably not to eat there.

Really good clay pot rice and Portuguese egg tarts! We decided to try this place out and it was worth it. You can customize your toppings for the clay pot and so we got the preserved meat and Chinese sausage. The preserved meat is like a pork belly that is braised. Overall the dish is flavorful with the sauce accompanying the sweetness of the meat while the charred rice adds a fun texture. 9/10 The Portuguese egg tarts are nicely done with the egg filling that is creamy and the crust that isn't too flaky. 8/10 Quick service and friendly staff and overall decorative interior with seating. Will come back for more claypot rice!

Located in a inconspicuous plaza in Alhambra, they can be very easy to miss. There is plenty of parking but the signs do say 1hr limit. Inside, there are a handful of tables but it was empty when we came around 11am. You order yourself using a QR code on the table. Their menu only has clay pot rice and a few other dishes, not very many options. They have egg tarts but they were not available. The clay pot rice had the option of choosing two meats so we got Chinese sausage and chicken and mushroom for one and another type of pork and sausage for the second pot. Each pot is a good size for one person's serving. It comes with 2-3 pieces of veggies too. Staff was pretty nice with free water. You click check out on the website and go up to the front to pay.

Clay pot rice dishes were very yummy, not too salty and enough ingredients with the amount of rice. The rice at the bottom of the clay pot was perfectly crispy. The Portuguese egg tarts were great to eat while waiting for the food. You order on your phone with a QR code. Food can take a little long to arrive because they cook the rice after you order the dish. There are small tables to sit at.

This is a must try place. The food is always on point, and their egg tarts it's a must try.

Found this clay pot rice place that opens pretty late (till 10 pm) so decided to come here. It's a bit hard to find but it was located in the corner of the plaza near the elevator. They mostly service rice dishes with soup. I tried out these items. Beef Brisket Rice - It was good, flavorwise I liked it. I would say its like 70% rice, 15% meat, 15% veggies. It's heavily concentrated on rice and there wasn't that much meat that came with it. Still tasty though especially with the soy sauce. (4/5) Clay Pot - IMO I enjoyed this one more especially since everything was boiling hot. You get to choose two different types of meat which we chose Chinese sausage and pork belly. Tons of flavor, but also tons of rice. This one seemed to be more balanced in terms of meat quantity. Would get this again. (4.5/5) I came pretty late so they unfortunately ran out of char siu rice. Service was good and they speak decent English. Price I felt was reasonable at $13.98 per dish. It's comfort food, can't really go wrong. If you are in need of a rice bowl this place suffices just wish it came with more meat to rice ratio otherwise solid. In total it was like $31 for the two dishes so not too bad. Parking - They have a lot in the back.

Easy to order, food came out quick, and food was amazing. Decent portion and also came with a little vegetables with the claypot. I got the minced pork with salted fish and it tasted just like home. Authentic food in a good spot in SGV!

Been here about 3 times now! They it Rice Clay Pot is good considering how rare it is to find these nearby. There's probably other 2-3 restaurants that make rice Clay pot. It is made to order so be patient. For $13.98, you get one pot with 2 meats of choice. I like chicken and mushroom and salted fish. Also spare ribs and minced pork are okay too. For an extra $5 you can add one of their soups which are of the healing type. American gingsen, cordyceps flower or chicken feet. Sometimes other soups are available as well. Overall the rice clay pot is a 7-8/10. I enjoy the warmth feeling it gives me and feels somewhat homey without feeling too saucy or heavy. The only issue is that it can be pretty oily at the bottom but that's how they get the nice subtle crisp of the rice. So it isn't healthy by any means but it's also something I get once every 2 months. Their egg tarts are decent too. Come check them out. Parking easy in the back of the plaza.

They only serve claypot rice and a few other rice dishes. But we got the claypot rice with preserved meat and spare ribs. The rice was crispy and the sweet soy sauce was perfect. It's pretty close to a famous spot we had in Hong Kong. The char siu (bbq pork) rice we got was just ok. The char siu they used was lean and no sauce drippings on the meat or rice bowl at all. The Portuguese egg tart was really good. Probably as good as you'll get in America. The service was ok, they forgot our add on Chinese sausage and then they charged us twice for it. Ambiance: it's nice and reminds me of old school Shanghai decoration. The music playing in the background was old 90's Hong Kong pop. Parking: It can be scarce during peak hours.

Hidden Gem in Alhambra - Finally Tried It After 4 Years of Driving By!…read more I've lived in Alhambra for the last 4 years and drove past this place almost every day, always assuming it was just another hot pot spot. It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. If you're in Alhambra and love good food, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't go wrong here--highly recommend! 5 stars all the way.

On a Saturday evening, my husband and I decided to grab dinner here. Because we parked in the shared parking lot, we entered the restaurant through the back. We were immediately greeted upon entering. After being seated and looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Fish Tofu Congee, $10.50 prior to tax- This meal truly nourished my soul because I was really sick a few days before and hardly ate anything. The congee was nice and hot and thick, just the way I like it. Portion wise, this is perfect for 2- 3 people to share. But again because I had not eaten much for the last few days, I ended up eating most of it (lol, had not realized how hungry I was until I was eating this). My husband did enjoy this congee too. Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $14.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish and thought the soup was flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew. I also liked this dish and thought it was delicious. My husband finished most of this dish. ------------------------------ (Total= $28.10 after tax, prior to tip) Service was friendly. And because the restaurant is on the small side, it was very easy to get a server's attention if you needed something. Although I did speak mostly Cantonese when I was here (I am actually trying to make myself speak Cantonese more), you can order in English. So you shouldn't have any trouble when you dine here. Overall, coming to The Congee was the right choice for dinner and so glad we did. I do see myself coming back here for another meal in the near future. Please note that there is a unisex restaurant towards the back of the restaurant, right next to the back entrance/ exit. The restroom itself had all the basic essentials (running water, toilet paper, paper towels and soap) but wasn't the cleanest. It was decent at best.

They lacked both the expected spiciness and the salty flavor. I believe I had anticipated a taste similar to crispy spicy salted pork chops. The dish featured four generously sized shrimp wontons, all amply filled with shrimp. I did sample the noodles, but unfortunately, I was too satiated to fully appreciate them. What they got right with the spicy wontons was the sauce - spiced, kinda spicy, sour, and also sweet. I could use that sauce on everything. The jiajiang noodles was just a good combo of cool from the cucumbers and the noodles and minced meat were good. The beef noodle soup was fine but I think the soup could've packed a bigger punch. It felt almost watered down but I say the piece of beef were great. Overall, the meal came out to around $65 and it is pretty standard now but $13 for 8 wontons or 8 potstickers just feels a bit nuts still.
