Seven months pregnant and got turned around, when asked to use the bathroom. I asked if I could buy something, she agreed, I asked for a pop. It was around 2+ dollars but since I didn't have cash it was 3.50.... All of that just to use the restroom?! I always wanted to try this place out in the future but not anymore knowing how GREEDY they are! No wonder the reviews are so low. I didn't even need to pop. You are missing out on one of the best full service restaurants in Paducah. The lunch specials run from $7.00 to $9.00. Jhad the $8.85 combination, beef and pepper, chicken chow mein, ham fried rice, and won ton soup. AMAZING HUGE PLATE!! This is not one of Paducah's better offerings. Fortunately, there are 2 or 3 items that make up for the rest of the downfalls. I've been three or four times, but I've had takeout from the Reidland location over a dozen times. If you know what to order, and you only get takeout, this place could be four stars, but...that's not the case. What's good? The ham-fried rice is legendary & the egg rolls are outstanding. There is a pressed chicken that is also fine. The soups are also pretty good. What's bad? The building is in ROUGH shape. There is a bar area that is being used for storage, but people still get seated in that area. The furniture and decor is stuck in the early 90s. The service is slow and easily confused. Most of the food on the buffet is just a sauce covered meat without a clear flavor. The price is also higher than you'd expect. They have a great location and I suppose they'll always sell enough food to get the bills paid. Other than that, though, there are a lot of better options. read more

I ordered the chicken Egg Foo Yung and not only was it unrecognizable to me, it was the worst I have ever had. Then I threw up twice after eating it. Maybe the chicken in it was contaminated. I had heard their quality had deteriorated, but they used to be great (I hear the Reidland location is very good, so it's got to be the chefs). I live in LA, but I remember Chong's fondly, and thought I'd submit a review from a bit of a remove. Whenever I travel "back home," there are a few restaurants that I make it a point to hit: Bill's BBQ in Metropolis. C.C. Cohen and Whaler's Catch, both downtown. And Chong's. Believe me, there's no shortage of good Chinese food to be had in Los Angeles, but I've yet to find an egg roll the equal of Chong's. The entrees are fine--commendable, even, in some cases--but those egg rolls. Oh, man. Friends, you just have to appreciate what you have here--I know I do. Every time I visit. Parking and service are great; prices are (by LA standards, and even by Paducah standards) more than fair; and in case I didn't mention the egg rolls... I'm a fan. Highly recommended. Makes me want to hop a plane RIGHT NOW just thinking about them. read more

While I live in Hawaii and travel often this is always one of our stops when we are back home in the Southern Illinois area. (Bill's BBQ would be the other). Chong's is a staple for Asian food in the area with the local people and has been for several years. They have good menu but your best bet is the Sunday buffet. Ive had "chinese style american food" in many restaurants and the one meal ive had from Chong's was the absolute worst... Ever... EVER... I saw pressed duck on the menu and was SOO excited... when my meal arrived i thought "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???". ive had some ugly meals that turned out to be great so i gave it a try. One bite and i was done. It was horrible. there was NO duck meat. it was croutons in brown gravy... horrible... seriously, croutons in brown gravy? what the heck. When it comes to Chinese buffet it's always pretty kick standard fare. But on a whim and with the pangs of hunger for Chinese in my very cells I walked into Chong's looking for an acceptable meal. It was lunch and the buffet was apparently all anyone was ordering so the staff knew what to ask and then went about their business. I walked to the buffet and immediately was saddened because my old mainstay of orange chicken wasn't there. Oh well, they had some battered and fried chicken so I went to look and to my amazement I saw something I had never seen. This was the fried chicken intended to be sweet and sour chicken, but...it was being kept separate from the sauce. I have never seen this before but I instantly fell in love with this idea. Keeping the chicken separate allows the breeding to stay crunchy and also keeps it from tasting like a bucket of syrup with some chicken inside. Then I grabbed some beef and broccoli and some fried noodles (also a rarity in the buffet circuit). It was all pretty tasty. The white rice should have been in a steamer being kept hot so that was a little bit of a let down and there was not much variety. The beef and broccoli was pretty good though. It wasn't too sweet, the beef and the broccoli were well cooked (not over, not under) and there were real varieties of vegetables. They were also serving ham fried rice which I have never seen but I didn't try it cause I'm not that into pork. I would have liked to have seen some other choices but what can you expect from the $7 lunch buffet? The thing that really got me was the owners attention to the food. She was making the rounds and cleaning up every scrap of rice or crumb that had been left and basically cleaning up. Then I noticed that she was also checking the freshness of everything there. She came to the dish of breaded chicken and removed all the ones that didn't meet her approval with a fork. I really have never seen this kind of attention placed on a buffet line and I was highly impressed. So, bottom line, the food isn't amazing but it's not bad, it's clean and their preparation practices make me confident that everything I grab at the buffet is at least pretty fresh. read more

I orded fried wonton from Chongs on 9/4/20 and the wonton had a pinch of meat inside and some had non at all. I went back to the restaurant to ask for a refund, i showed the manger the product that they served me and she stated that they were fine. I asked for my money back and she stated no that she could not do that and said that she would make a new order. She came back first off with the same box I returned the food in and grease bits in the box on top of the wontons, at that point, I just wanted my money. She again refused. So i left stating that I would not shop there again and she said ok and the cook as well with a bad attitude. So i told my wife about it when i got in the car to leave. So she went in and was able to get my money back. This is very bad quality of service and I would never shop there again. read more

locals really like it, but not for me. I've eaten at Chinese restaurants all over the United States and this is unlike any other. Positive- place is clean and booths comfy. Negatives - buffet is small, lacks fruit, salad and desert. Almost all dishes are deep fried, with sauces on side so it looks like there is more on the buffet than there is. We were very disappointed. read more

If you can't have MSG in your food, the dishes are pretty tasteless. Wanton soup is watery and the wonton have little to no meat - and again, no flavor. For Cashew Chicken - it had Lobster sauce, not the brown sauce. Really wish Paducah had more selections of Chinese Restaurants. read more

This is the worst Chinese I've ever had. We were driving through (on my bday and Mother's Day combo) and was horrified with the food. The rice and noodles are cooked with meat (?), no vegetarian options, so I ordered off the menu vs the buffet. The buffet was awful (husband had that)... The sauces tasted like rubber... I told the manager the food I ordered wasn't edible and she argued that it was bad bc I told them to make it vegetarian (I ordered broccoli and mushrooms). Just use veggie broth vs chicken or beef. I asked what was in the sauce and she said "cornstarch and MSG". I was horrified. And the mushrooms were obviously canned. Icing on top, saying the food wasn't up to par bc "500,000 people came through here today" is not an acceptable excuse. And the manager said she was "surprised there's anything left".... Ugh. I would give this place a -5 if possible. I ordered their combination platter that is an appetizer for my dinner. It was horrific pile of over fried "food" that they have reheated. I worked in a Chinese place and crab Rangoon when made fresh is creamy theirs were congealed. Which means they reheated them. Everything else was so disgusting, avoid this place it's horrible! I can't stress this enough I'm sitting here pissed the got $10 of my hard earned money for this poor excuse for food. When I complained I got a poor excuse for a sorry and that was it!!!! read more

I'm not sure what was sadder- the miniscule buffet of (insert meat) in brown gravies and deep fried meats, or the sign stating that this place was voted best Chinese restaurant in Paducah in 2013. The only vegetable dishes to be found were a sweet and sour something and a steak and green pepper dish. The flavor of the food was ok, but many of the dishes were obviously sitting overly-long on the buffet, and stir fries were almost non-existent. The desserts were also few and unimpressive- pudding and jello. The servers were very nice, but the owners need to do a little better representing their country's cuisine. If you're going to bother doing it, at least try to do it well. read more

I have eaten at Chongs a few times, as I live right across the river in IL. The food isn't so bad and the staff SEEMS nice, as long as you are paying I guess. I just went and asked for a single pair of chopsticks. The owner told me no, that they run out. She then asked if I was eating, as if I COULD get some if I paid for a meal. I told her no, I just needed a single set. She told me no again. I offered to BUY them, but she still would not give me a pair. First off, they were NOT out. Hardly anyone actually ever uses them when they eat there anyway. Secondly, I had gotten some from both CHiN and China House in Metropolis, IL. They BOTH gave them to me without any trouble at all. (If you are asking why I was needing them since I had already gotten them, I needed some as a movie prop, and was comparing the styles of chopsticks that I could get) So yeah, I will NEVER eat there again. They cant even be nice enough to give up a pair of chopsticks that probably dont even cost them .50. read more
